Double Battle Metagame.

I, myself, have been trying to formulate my own Gravity team. It's completely theorymon right now, but I do appreciate the privilege of allowing to choose power over accuracy with little to no repercussions. The only problem, however, is when my five turns are up...then I'm kinda screwed (although hopefully the enemy will be incapacitated enough for it to not matter).

hey does anyone know if psych up copies negative boosts or if it just copies positive boosts, for example if snorlax uses curse and then metagross uses psych up does it get +1 attack and +1 defense or does it get +1attack,+1defense and-1speed. i am trying to make a team that uses psych up and would like to know.
here's the team if you all would like to rate it http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46478

Sorry, Latios. I meant to get back to you on that in your RMT. Psych Up copies all stat modifier levels, positive and negative, including accuracy and evasion levels.

Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Dragonite, Mewtwo, Mew, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Tyranitar, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Salamence, Metagross, Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Latias, Latios, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys (all forms), Garchomp, Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Dialga, Palkia, Heatran, Regigigas, Giratina (both forms), Cresselia, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin (both forms), and Arceus (all types).

This cutoff point may seem as arbitrary as any other and the number of banned Pokémon may seem very large, but in my experience it is the best way to maximize the number of viable Pokémon in the lower tier, thereby removing the need for an even lower, "UU" tier. I could count on both hands the number of fully-evolved Pokémon that I think are too weak to be used effectively in this Non-Legendary tier.

It is indeed...EXTREMELY arbitrary.

In all your experience, did you ever see something like Moltres, Articuno, Entei, or Uxie do anything particularly game-breaking? Their banning under this list is completely unjustifiable except by some completely unrelated way of classifying pokemon. It would contain the same amount of rigor if I decided to ban every pokemon for which the word 'head' appeared in its DP pokedex entry.

A superior system would be to start with the present OU metagame as given, maybe with Garchomp, Latis, Manaphy added as well, then test for over-centralizing strategies or pokemon. Stuff like Lugia may be safely banned simply for their overwhelming stat advantage with no ability or what have you drawbacks.

I disagree. I hate legendaries with a burning passion and it's because of that legendary status that I agree with TheMaskedNitpicker's list. Although, I don't really see Dragonite, Tyranitar, Salamence, Metagross, and Garchomp as much of a problem though. Yes they are powerful, but they are still "normal" Pokemon.

A legend is a legend, no matter how they're played. Besides, Lati@s is too powerful with its own item.

I really hope that you do not ban all legends.. It would be totally arbitrary..

What would be something to try would be start with ALL Pokemon allowed, and ban from there. The Double Battle metagame is SO different that normal OU's set of bans almost would not apply.

And Numbuh may be working on implementing Double Battles on shoddy. I spoke to him yesterday on the CaP server.

I think banning legendaries is the wrong way to go about things if we are really trying to be as competitive as possible. I mean, legendariness is an in game state that does not effect a competitive battle at all.

I agree with eric the espeon I think that we should start with a metagame that allows everything and then ban things as we see fit.
Obviously some pokemon like mewtwo and arceus will be banned early on but other current ubers like wobufett could prove to be viable without being broken.
the biggest advantage that i see of doing it this way is that we will know from the start what is broken and what is not, and we wont have to go back and do complicated retesting like we are having to do in 1v1 right now.

I think we should just start with having the same Ubers list that 1v1 has, barring most of the ones that were bumped up due to being suspect. Banning all legendaries doesn't make sense; 'legendary' isn't even an in-game state, you can argue that Unown is supposed to be legendary.

Guys like Mewtwo and Lugia and the like are obviously out, but lower level ones that are in OU and UU tiers should be fine in 2v2 as well, at least at the start.

I really don't see why we would start with the 1v1 tier list. If a Pokemon is broken and is allowed, it should be somewhat obvious that something is wrong, and people can investigate. If a Pokemon is not broken and is banned, then it's not obvious at all that something is wrong. Moreover, allowing all potentially non-broken Pokemon at once allows you to see the synergy of multiple Pokemon (something even more important in 2v2 than 1v1).

Banning all legendaries is really a moot point and more of a personal preference since not all "legendaries" can simply come in and Centralize the metagame or take over it. The Best "Tier" list to start with should be Nintendo's with slight modifications, since it's the one that will be changing the least and will closely mimic the one used offical tournaments. Banning pokemon like Garchomp, Metagross, Salam off the bat seems too extreme, and really should be banned as it is seen fit as the game develops.

you can catch more than one unown so i don't think you can argue that it is legendary

But can you catch more than one Rotom?

The problem with just dismissing something as 'Legendary' is that criteria for one pokemon will always leave one or two pokemon out. You can't say 'All Legendaries can only be caught once' because that would make Rotom a Legendary. You also can't say 'All Legendaries can't breed' because that would make Unown a legendary. Like I said, just ban the ones that are considered Uber in both tiers, barring suspects like Garchomp. I agree with following Nintendo's ban list at the start, because that'll put us in a position to be better prepared for their tournaments, which are frequently 2v2.

I really want to get into doubles. The problem is, I don't have the patience to breed in game and it is not available on shoddy as of yet. I think that once it gets implemented on shoddy, many more people will have input on this ban list and the game as a whole.

lol. Chaos 9, I know that StarmanXL and myself own Action Replays. I'm so glad I invested in one because now I can make teams without too too much difficulty.

For me, Legendaries are Pokemon which can only be caught once in-game and cannot breed. I know no real exceptions save Manaphy, but it only births an entirely different species.

Hmm what about

dpmfa094.png

Gengar @ Focus Sash
Levitate
252 speed 252 attack 6 special attack, Timid

Shadow Ball
Pyschic
Dark Pulse
Hypnosis

+

dpmfa352.png

Kecleon @ Leftovers/Quick Claw
Color Change
255 attack 255 spD , Adamant

-Skill Swap
-Sucker Punch
-Ice Punch
-Brick Break

Kecleon uses skill swap first with gengar giving gengar the color change ability. Whatever supereffective move gengar gets hit by keeps it still alive with the color change ability making it whatever type it just got hit by. Now kecleon has levitate ability. Gengar can shadow ball kecleon making it the exact same type gengar was but physical and whatever fighting type moves that kecleon takes are now immune. Since gengar's two weakness are physic and dark I give it the future STAB moves of dark pulse and psyhic whichever it wants to use.

Jesus Christ...
I don't know where to start with this post...

I do!

-Color Swap isn't too spectacular, because it is easy to get type whored. Think about combos people carry like Rock/Ground.
-I'm not entirely sure, but I think Color Change only comes into effect when Kecleon is actually struck with the attack. If he's still normal when you try to Shadow Ball him, Gengar will whiff, and remain normal.
-What if Gengar is hit by an attack like Shadow Sneak? He'll still be a Ghost type!

legendarys are pokemon that can only be caught once and cant breed, its not that complicated

EDIT: vhind beat me

Yes I know that people (including myself) own action replays. But, it is so inconvinient even with AR to continually make new teams. Also, the people who play wi-fi are
A. Bad
B. Hard to find
or C. too few

What's wrong with Wi-fi? I use it. Not for competitive things, but if I have to use it that way in order to work on the Double Metagame, so be it.

I think I've gone days posting in Battle Me without receiving a double battle. You've better luck on GFAQs I've found.

Also, what's wrong with Skill Swap teams? They kick ass...although that combo really isn't all that great...

I'm building a Skill Swap Team now lol
Whenever I find someone asking for a Doubles Match, I try to satisfy but as I build my teams from scratch and are always continously developing (Sorry but I don't own an AR or agree with hacking pokemon) and even thogh the players on Wi-Fi tend to be horrible there are a few with interesting strategies that don't even used "Competitive" Built Pokemon. Playing without certain moves, natures, and/or ev spreads also helps you decide where to invest evs, ivs, and which nature to use for when you do build the final pokemon. I will agree that this is a somewhat tedious process but for what it's worth, I have 3 4vs4 Completed Team (An Uber, Sun and Rain) Doubles Team, and Two Teams that I am currently polishing up as well, and the Skill Swap I'm currently in progress of building.

4v4 is what they used at the showdown
6v6 is what most battles on wifi are (i think)
and stadium mode (see your opponents 6, then choose 4 to battle with) was used for JAA and is used on PBR.

so you can just choose what you like best
