Double Battle Metagame.

No one would aim for Wob, thats why he's allowed and no one would use him. It's like why no one uses Shuckle.

I'm sure if they realized Wobb was the only thing standing between them switching out and them losing both their pokemon in 3 turns, they'd go after him. :b

It's a shame none of the Perish song users also learn Follow Me, otherwise they could buy him some time.

Smeargle does :p
I'm gonna try out a perish song team, just because it sounds interesting.

You need to get your facts straight. Actually playing may be a good step towards that.
Shuckle makes numerous appearances in doubles, especially accomplanying Slaking.

I've actually created a somewhat decent Perish Song team for doubles, like Showdown; when done right it can be very effective. I'll go find it in my Shoddy teams and post it, if anybody is interested. :)

Shuckle is used in doubles, especially with Trick Room, Power Trick, and Gastro Acid. I remember that one Japanese video where he power tricked shuckle and then OHKOed the opponents with Rock Slide. x)

Smeargle does :p

Ah, thanks for reminding me.

So then, a Perish duo could be:

Smeargle;Own Tempo @ Wide Lens/Focus Sash
-Perish Song
-Dark Void
-Follow Me
-Protect/Light Screen/Reflect/Captivate/Lunar Dance/Filler

Wobbuffet @ Leftovers
-Counter
-Mirror Coat
-Safeguard
-Charm

Smeargle does all the work, putting people to sleep if needed, and starting the Perish Song. While it's in effect, Wobb does everything he can to stay alive, blocking status with Safeguard and crippling Physical Attackers with Charm. Smeargle can help keep Wobb alive by using Follow Me, and help keep himself alive with Protect, or follow Wobbuffet's example and dampen attacks with Light Screens, Reflects, or Captivate. Honestly, he's done what he needed to do if he pulls off Perish Song; after that, he can do whatever, so long as Wobb is still alive.

One nasty thing he can do if Wobb is on his last legs is this:

1) Switch out Wobbuffet.
2) Smeargle uses Lunar Dance and dies.
3) Pick Wobbuffet, and he's back, good as new, and not under the effect of Perish Song!

I'd still keep Dugtrio in the wings, just as a contingency plan in case Wobb does fall; he's not as effective, but hitting nonfliers and nonlevitators is better than hitting none at all. Plus, I think it'd be hilarious if the person puts so much effort into felling Wobb, only to find out he's still stuck in.

EDIT: Deoxys-S is quite prominent online and I face them all the time with no difficulty.

Really? I must be playing the wrong people...still, that's not really proof of it being broken or not in and of itself. What do the Deoxys-Ss do usually? Looking over its sets and movepool, I really can't see anything that it can do that many other pokemon cannot replicate with the same success, and I have to wonder if the Dual Screen and Cosmic Wall sets are really worth the effort with no attacks; perhaps if we modified one...

You're absolutely correct. They're nothing too special, just quick.
Now, I must point out that online I do face many doubles noobs who use ubers just to use them thinking they are powerful gods. If handled correctly they could be quite a problem.

What exactly do you have in mind with using a Deoxys-S?

I dunno, really. Looking at what it can do at the moment, I think Light Screen or Reflect would be really useful on it, and given its insane speed and the lack of choice scarf users in general, I suppose the best thing to do would to give it no Spd EVs, pump the rest into, say, HP and the appropriate attack stat to make sure it doesn't go down too easy. Hm...too bad it doesn't learn any good spread moves it can abuse, but perhaps it can do something akin to its mixed attacker set. Maybe something like, I dunno, 252 HP/252 Sp. Atk with a Modest nature and Reflect or Light Screen/Taunt/two special attacks (maybe BoltBeam, or Psychic + something or other?). I dunno.

Man, I really wanna use this now, but I don't wanna make a new team just for it. Too bad it doesn't really fit into any of my teams right now.

lol. I'm sure it'd go perfectly with a team utilizing Intimidate. It may become unstoppable.
However, I've never been interested in using Deoxys...eh, whatever.

Would it be possible to make a viable team where all four members know Intimidate? Most of them share some sort of weakness; Gyarados and Salamence have Rock, Tauros, Stantler and Granbull have Fighting, etc.

I know I'd like to see one!
^.^

Ok, here it is. ;)

Dusknoir (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/40 Def/46 Spd/172 SDef
Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Imprison
- Protect
- Shadow Sneak
- Trick Room
---
Snorlax (M) @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/6 Def
Sassy nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Selfdestruct
- Protect
- Crunch
- Fire Blast
---
Gengar (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 6 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Perish Song
- Protect
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
---
Togekiss (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP/100 Def/158 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Extremespeed
- Follow Me
- Protect
- Air Slash

Imprison with Dusknior while Snorlax protects, depending on the situation. Snorlax explodes, killing both opponents hopefully. Shadow Sneak helps with Focus Sash and ghosts. then Gengar comes in, the fastest Perish Song user. So it uses Perish Song while the opponent is down to his last two guys. Then just stall it out for 3 turns to win; Sub on Gengar helps with that. Togekiss has Extremespeed for Sash Smeargle and Follow Me in case Gengar faints and Dusknoir needs to be brought back in or saved, etc.

If I can get the first two guys can fainted, it's a sure thing that Gengar can come in and use Perish song and make the rest of the battle 3 turns maximum. Then it's just a matter of stalling.

Showdown rules that affect things here: item clause, lv. 50, 4 vs 4. If you have any questions just ask. =)

Wow, that seems much better coordinated than the pair I posted.

Imprison seems like a pretty big deal in 2v2, since it's the only way to keep people from hiding behind Protect (besides Feint, and that seems like a major waste of a moveslot).

Just to put it in perspective, wasting a turn using Skill Swap just to use Intimidate more is exactly as effective as using Growl.

Arcanine is definitely your friend; he's got Ground/Water/Rock, Gyarados and Mence at least take care of two of those, and he resists Blizzard. Mence/Gyarados/Arcanine/Tauros could work alright.

I just know that I've seen a pretty good Intimidate Team on Youtube. lol.
It included Luxray, Hitmontop, Staraptor, and Gyarados.

The only thing that you have to watch out for is Detect, but only a handful of Pokemon use that in the first place; Zapdos and Yanmega come to mind as popular doubles users that could carry it.

Imprison seals Trick Room and Protect, and in doubles that is always helpful.

Wow, I have maybe seen one Hitmontop in doubles in my entire life lol. I recently began to play between 11pm and 2 am pacific on weekends to get the better japanese trainers. Maybe I am just missing the people who use Hitmontop because I have never really seen one before that was used effectively.

Or if I do see a Hitmontop, it's a noob who knows little of double battling; nobody really experienced.

Working on a Swagger duo. The current pair is Purugly, being the fastest Pokemon with Own Tempo (and also has Fake Out), and Spiritomb. Spiritomb COULD have Swagger and then Psych Up, so it can boost both itself and Purugly, but with only so many move slots, it'd be better for him to have things like Taunt and Will-o-wisp.

okay here is a gimmicky combo that could work.
shuckle.jpg

shuckle@soft stone
252hp 252def 4sp def impish
rest
acupressure
sandstorm
gastro acid

+

mew.jpg

mew@leftovers
252hp 252spe jolly
transform
filler
filler
filler

the strategy is pretty simple have shuckle use sandstorm on the first turn while mew use transform. mew will keep its nice 404 hp while gaining shuckle's godly defenses. once mew is transformed have both mew and shuckle use acupressure on mew to shoot his stats up to insane levels.

when shuckle dies bring in a psych up user to copy mews boosts.

hazing and phazing screw this over but since many doubles teams lack them it could actually do pretty well.

If you're going to try for Acupressure, you should give Shuckle a few more offensives moves just in case, like Rock Slide, since it can hit both enemies.
