Current Implementation of Trick on Shoddy

As most here are probably aware, Trick currently does not work correctly on Shoddy. If you try to Trick a choice item and receive another choice item back, you are normally locked into Trick until you switch out. In Shoddy, you are free to choose another move, which gives a huge advantage to the user of Trick and takes away a lot of the risks of using what is already a crippling move.

What I want to know is why Trick is allowed to be used if it is glitched. Recently, Fly was glitched and caused massive damage, which caused it to be banned until it was fixed. I don't see what the difference is here, except that people may whine "but I need Trick to win, blah blah blah." Just like with everything else new in Platinum, everyone wants to try Trick out now that seemingly everything can learn it (seriously, Slowbro doesn't seem that tricky to me) and might be reluctant to give it up until it is fixed.

Well, too bad I say, there is no reason to allow a move which is glitched and gives the user a potentially huge and unfair advantage. I'm not sure how Fly was handled on the ladder (if it was banned or not), but at the least, people should be encouraged to follow the rules and not switch moves when they would normally not be allowed to, a sort of gentlemen's rule like sleep clause in wifi.

I know the attitude on Smogon is doing whatever it takes to win, but this isn't a case of banning a move because it is overpowered, it is temporarily banning a move because it currently just doesn't work in Shoddy.

I'd like to hear what other Smogonites, especailly those in a position to do something about this, think about the matter.

I agree that Trick should be fixed ASAP, because currently the biggest counter to Trick (other Choice users) isn't actually a trick, and it means that Trick is pretty much a no-risk high-reward move.

This glitch only allows you to use another move after Tricking another Choice user. It isn't as big of an issue as you're trying to make it seem.

DJD or someone else should get to it soon, so sit tight and don't worry too much about it.

Another move that is wrong is U-Turn, which locks you into U-Turn if you use it to switch between choice users on Shoddy/Diamond/Platinum. Once again though, Platinum fixed this.

ie: Scarf Flygon --U-Turn--> CB Scizor, Scizor is locked into U-Turn [Shoddy]

This is NOT how Platinum functions, and Scizor should be allowed to switch between moves

Scarf Flygon --U-Turn--> CB Scizor, Scizor used Bullet Punch! [Platinum]

I complained about this awhile a go, but no one did anything. :(

Agreed. It's gotten me a few times as I will be playing some WiFi with Trick and obviously when I switch to my Choice user when I predict a Trick, the thing that Tricked me would be still locked into Trick. But on Shoddy, they're allowed to pick a new move. I've lost a couple pokemon thanks to this glitch and myself forgetting that the glitch exists...

Hopefully this can be fixed, and if it's banning for a while so they can fix it, so be it...

It's a pretty big influence on gameplay. If you send out a Scarf Magnezone and they trick with Jirachi or Metagross they normally would be completely fucked as all they could do is keep tricking the scarfs back and forth while you killed them. Now they can pick a new move (Metagross could set up Stealth Rock or Earthquake you if he had it, Jirachi could set up rocks or U-turn away).

I worked on this some before the latest update, and we spent quite a bit of time talking about this on IRC. Unfortunately, it's not so easy to get this right on Shoddy. I won't explain the technical details, but it's not a simple fix. Considering how much other stuff was on the table with the last update, I really didn't want to delay the update further by fixing Trick.

Since then, I still have not gotten the updates fully distributed to the Shoddy repository, so that that is my current project. After that, I will work on Trick. I realize Trick is a very popular move these days -- so I understand the frustration. Hopefully, I can get this fixed soon.
