Just replaced my 2 GB nano for a shiny blue 8 GB (actually only 7.42 GB) new nano. They're updating fast; my old nano had 1/4 the memory and was two years old; now they got better technology for the same price as two years past.

Is it me or am I the only one who uses his PSP for listening to music. Sure, I understand that some people want a smaller player, but a hacked PSP can really give plenty of options. I have virtually no limitations on the format of music or video files I can play on it when using homebrew apps, and there are also plugins that you can use to listen to music while playing your games at the same time. Besides, who wants to view videos on a small screen anyway?

I currently have a quite old Creative Muvo MP3 player, but it has soooo little space on it :(
Could somebody suggest me some good mp3 player/iPod that's quite small (Easily fits in an average pocket, with little risk of it falling out), can be used as a pen drive and is reasonably priced? o.0

It is not that it is necessarily as popular as it seems, but rather that it is the only winner of the mp3 competition thus far. The only good competing big product (Archos) is too expensive and the company is underfunded, and the only good competing little product (iAudio) remains too bulky, but is superior and cheaper in every other facet. Of course, if Apple decides to stop ripping people off, even the cheapness factor there disappears.
I have one of the short and fat 8 gigabytes - they are actually better for running than tall and skinny, and I use it mostly for that purpose (with a belt clip on).

iPod shuffle is for $100 I believe, hold about 500 or 1,000 songs if you get the $100 one. Even is made like a clip, no chance of it falling off.
Can't you just drag and drop from your Music folder to the mp3 player for now? I'm not sure how they work exactly. Maybe there's a bunch of restrictions like Apple's shitty software and hardware.
Like Teifu, I'm not a big fan of Apple products. Unlike him, I do have an iPhone. I think the iPods are overpriced for what they do by far. I mean, why pay $130 for a 4GB iPod Nano when there are 4GB mp3 players for almost half that price that come with better headphones and aren't tied to the bloaty shit that is iTunes?
But alas, I needed a new phone and the N95 was out of my price range on my upgrade. The iPhone 3G has a big screen for web browsing and was much cheaper so I went with that. Two firmware updates later, at least it's not crashing every 5 minutes =D
From my observation, probably because iPods tend to be way more durable than your average mp3 player in terms of both hardware and firmware structure
I expected the Nano to be the most popular considering the age group of this community. The Nano is probably the most popular among teens/young adults.

Quite a bit of Apple hate. Yes they are popular and most people would blindly buy anything that has that apple on the front because of mass amounts of marketing marketing, but the iPod started as just like any other MP3 player, and Apple a small company.

16 gig first gen iPod Touch for 1 year (got it for Christmas '07). I have no complaints and actually find it pretty cool other than the terrible, small memory space that barely even fits the best of my music collection.

On the issue of competing mp3 players, I just find an iPod the most convenient to use, and I honestly find iTunes a lot more convenient to use than say, WMP.

I'd have to disagree with the 'iPod is the best or most sturdy music player' comment. Clearly the iPod is apple the most popular company out there for mp3s players and the like. In terms of mp3 players with less gb there are fair amount of good competitors. Stuff like say a SanDisk Sansa Clip 4gb could be gotten for more than half the price.
While something like Cowon iAudio D2 is more or less the price of a nano while having an sd card slot to add more space while apparently having close to fifty hour battery life or such.
There is less resonably priced 'good enough' competitors for say the larger capacities of an iPod Classic the most notable one being the Microsoft Zune which I believe has wifi while the classic does not but in the end with the exception of the zune those are all "indie" products that unless you really searched around internet or asked someone you wouldn't know about. Whereas iPod is apple and has a simple enough interface/itunes.

I have the v.1 iPod Touch 8G. I think it's pretty cool, but it annoys me how I have to constantly turn the screen on to change the volume / song, I wish there was an outside forward / back button like how the v.2 has a volume control on the outside. Whatever though, the game apps and cool, I like watching movies on a big screen aaannndd web browsing, though I wish I could find more free and accesible hotspots. :/

iPods are in no way the most durable mp3 players? God no. It's purely marketing and apparently ease of use. Personally I don't find the wheel intuitive at all, but it was a big thing when it was developed.
WER, what format does the Zune read? There are video converters for everything these days. Shouldn't be too hard to find one. I really like Microsoft's approach to music distribution. They have a $20 a month thing where you can download as many songs as you want and as long as you're subscribed, you can listen to them. In addition to that, every month you can pick 10 songs to keep for yourself even if you stop subscribing. Much better than charging $0.99 a song. Considering people have thousands of songs, it's not very economical.

I have a 2G touch which was a surpise gift.
I use it quite often, rarely for music but more so for video, games and the internet browser.

I had to decide between the Nano Chromatic and the Touch late last year and I'm sort of "meh"ing because I didn't go with the Chromatic... I hate how much you have to interact with the Touch to control music instead of being able to change songs and such while its still in your pocket and stuff. I also like the wheel much much better than the Touch Interface. I found the wheel very very intuitive and I really miss it because the Touch interface is really annoying x_x
But the Touch is useful, being able to read PDFs and web document archives is very very useful =)
But what I really dislike is their inability to read ogg vorbis. I hate reconverting music
