Megadeth - Rust in Peace

Megadeth - Rust in Peace (1990)

The album's cover art depicts Megadeth's mascot, Vic Rattlehead, and the leaders of the five major world powers (at the time) attending a secret meeting in Hangar 18, where Vic is showing them a corpse of an alien.

The world leaders, from left to right, are former British Prime Minister John Major, former Japanese Prime Minister Toshiki Kaifu, former German President Richard von Weizsäcker, former Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev, and former American President George H. W. Bush.

Genre - Progressive Metal/Thrash Metal

Holy Wars...The Punishment Due - One of Megadeth's best opening tracks. The fast riffs in the opening, combined with the lyrical power of the second half make for one great song. Plus Marty Friedman's solos of course. 9/10

Hangar 18 - Most known for its appearance on Guitar Hero, Hangar 18 features eight solos by Friedman and Mustaine. The solos alone make this one of my favorite Megadeth tracks. 10/10

Take No Prisoners - This song has the best rhythm guitar parts on the entire album. The lyrics fit perfectly with the brutal riffing. 8/10

Five Magics - This song has my favorite vocals, lyrics, and intro. The harmonized guitar parts blend perfectly with David Ellefson's bass playing. Probably my favorite song on the album. 10/10

Lucretia - Another great song off the album. Friedman's solos in this track are fantastic. 8.5/10

Tornado of Souls - This track has one of the greatest solos of all time. Combined with the fact that the riffs are totally badass, you have the makings for one great song. 10/10

Dawn Patrol - If I had to pick a song that's my least favorite off the album, this one is it. It's basically Ellefson playing a cool bass riff with Mustaine doing a monologue in the background. 6/10

Rust in Peace...Polaris - The album's title track. Nick Menza's drum intro really sets the pace for this song. The vocals and lyrics both fit really well together in the song. And the Polaris portion of the song, is heavy and fast. 9/10

Overall - My first, and favorite Megadeth album (Sorry Peace Sells). It's just one of those albums where the band got everything right. If you don't have it, and are a Megadeth fan, buy it, now. If you're just looking for a good heavy metal album, pick it up and see why it was named the 4th most influential heavy metal album of all time.

Yeah, resorting to pejorative to prove yourself is surely a winning way to approach argumentation. Holy Wars has more 'energy' overall, mostly because of the constant guitar beating, but I like that more than Tornado of Souls relenting during most of the vocals, and far more importantly its arrangement is really great. The biggest fault of Tornado of Souls is its ending - it has a great guitar riff fest, then it comes back into exciting vocals...then gets a little less exciting for like 20 seconds, then does not even end on IT'S THE KISS OF DEATH, but rather comes back for some more less exciting 8 or 16 beats of chords/drums/whatever.

Holy Wars is a great song, but it wouldn't be a review if I started giving every song a ten just because I liked it. It's just my personal opinion.

obviously you shouldn't give everything a ten; a ten, as the highest possible rating, should be very elusive and nothing but the absolute best should get it.

BUT Holy Wars is imo by far the greatest Megadeth song (Tornado of Souls is better than Hangar 18 and Five Magics, but not Holy Wars) and really I would put that as the only 10/10 on this album.

Sorry to bitch lol I still enjoy that this fantastic album is recognized =]

Oh, I had no idea it was your opinion! Had I known this, then instead of disagreeing with it, I would rather have said it was a sparkling glittering fairy and that every song is pretty and noble and graceful and worthy of our attention?!

I didnt know hangar 18 was in guitar hero.
But that song kicks ass! I like this album too, especially Holy Wars... The punishment Due.

tornado of souls is better ck is still a dumbfuck. i don't care about the musical details anyway.

the fucking solo in tornado of souls destroys anything Megadeth ever did

My uncle just allowed me to get the audio off his Rust in Peace CD (Non Re-Masters). Rust in Peace is freaking awesome and Megadeth are probably my favorite Metal band.
