edit: ugh why the fuck is this only top 5, i am leaving out like a million bands who i wanna put there and if i ever meet them i feel like they will know that they arent on my top 5 itt and then theyll be so unhappy with me
 
not going to rank them in an order as that is WAY too difficult but i'm thinking my list is like

modest mouse
sufjan stevens
bomb the music industry!

fuckfuckfuck that was pretty hard honorable mentions to the arrogant sons of bitches and against me!, they were the two i was debating about but ahhhhhhhhhh these lists are always agonizing

Amazingly enough, I would have predicted you'd pick 5 that I hadn't heard of ever. Must be a hipster thing, I live in Calgary's Hipster community so I know what it's like!

I'm gonna have to go with

4.I am Ghost
5.The Creepshow

yeah pretty inconsistent on style for me, I have a new wave ska, a somewhat generic pop punk band, a defunct indieish band, a gothic post hardcore band and rockabilly...lol
 
i don't know if you mean current favorites or all-time, but since there's no way i could do a full list i'll just put down current stuff as they come to me!

suba, animal collective, yeah yeah yeahs, the mountain goats, and the national in some order i don't care about

ok i just read glens post and the books need to be on there over the national probably!

hey dude billy bragg is a british folk singer from the 80s who basically changed my life more than any other musician around, shit aint hipster

i really wanted to put against me but i'm way too angry at them for not making music how it sounded on crime anymore

My 3, 4, and 5 bands change from time to time.

see the most playtime because they've existed forever and have tons of wonderful records out...

But then there are also other favorites like Nisennenmondai and Ponytail that I adore in a different way because I can see them live...

AND there are certain composers for piano or voice or w/e that are absolute joys to perform...

I guess if you can rank your "favorite" music then hooray, but imo music is a bit too complicated for that.

what does the quantity of music churned out have to do with the quality of a band ?_?

no other band has made me dance around in my undies more (although animal collective came close) so im pretty sure that warrants a top 5 spot
