Gross lead+BP team?

The Team

This is my first RMT. I've lurked for a while and i used to play a lot of pokemon on the handhelds. I recently started Shoddy and the freedom of instant pokes was really cool. I've never had a chance to battle to the fullest potential without IV/time constraints getting in the way and now i'm hooked on Shoddy. I started with the usually Baton Pass team but realized "wait..if they break the chain, i'm screwed" so i looked at some successful standard teams. I realized a good team is one that has good offense but isn't frail defensively. I then made this team and played a bit with it and it seems pretty good but it's still missing something. The point of this team is to have a standard lead, but then set up for baton passing but not be bogged down to a long chain that can get interrupted, but to be a normal team that utilizes "baton pass" instead of switching so i can keep the buffs.

metagross.png

Metagross@Occa Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252HP / 228 Atk/ 12Def / 16 Spe
Adamant Nature
Meteor Mash
Bullet Punch
Stealth Rock
Explosion

Basically his job is to set stealth rock up and still do some damage. Meteormash/Bullet Punch when seem fit and end his reign of terror with a bang. I chose metagross because he's not as fragil as some suicide leads and he's really reliable. If i'm lucky, i can kill one lead with MM+BP and crippler/kill a second one with explosion :D

scizor.png

Scizor@leftovers
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252HP/ 80 Spe, 176 SpD
Jolly
Bullet Punch
Agility
Roost
Baton Pass

After my metagross explodes, i send out Scizor. I originally had Ninjask but it was too obvious and Ninjask is too frail. I took Mc's advice and tried a scizor and he was right. People think i'm going to SD and sweep so they send in a wall because most scizors are used as cleaners or revenge killers but i'll just stat up and pass. Bullet punch there just because it's a good move.

smeargle.png

Smeargle@Salac Berry
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 244HP / 12 Def/ 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
Spore
Ingrain
Substitute
Baton Pass

He's my setting upper for Medicham. Comes in after speedboosts on a wall and spores then ingrains on the switch and subs. He can also come in if one of my pokes before him dies and well, he'll just show up and spore. Salac berry is there incase Scizor can't get enough passes in or dies >_>
Pretty standard IMO. I changed bellydrum with ingrain.

medicham.jpg

Medicham@Life Orb
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 4 Hp
Jolly Nature
Brick Break
Ice Punch
Thunder Punch
Baton Pass

He's my physical sweeper. I loved medicham since Advanced. His huge power lets him 1 hit every single OU in the game iirc and he looks so pimp. Recieve a Belly drum and start wrecking havoc :D Brick Break for screeners, Ttars, Metagross, basicalyl anything steel/dark/rock. Pseudo bolt beam for coverage.
umbreon.png

Umbreon@leftovers
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 Hp/ 252 SpD
Bold Nature
Wish
Mean Look
Substitute
Baton Pass

Originally on my team, i had Blissey as the special wall. Then i was like wait, blissey can't baton pass so once i take the hit, i'm screwed. I then looked at Umbreon and found he can special wall....just not as good as blissey *f4* I basically took the wishbliss set and replaced Ice Beam with Baton Pass. I guess he passes wishes/subs/and ML. Replaced protect with sub. My special wall.

gliscor.png

Gliscor@leftovers
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252HP / 40 Atk/ 216 Spe
Impish
Sword Dance
Roost
Earth Quake
Baton Pass

The Sword Dance BPer. After removing BD from smeargle, i decided to replace togekiss with gliscor. This gives me SD and a physical tank. Dancing tank set with baton pass.

Sorry about the short discriptions. This is my first RMT so don't expect much from this post :(

Thanks you ;D

Zapdos > Ninjask.

Just for the reason that he can actually do something, is remotely sturdy, and isn't as hurt by Stealth Rock. If you want Ninjask, lead with it, but that's risky.

Of course, if you hope to use this on wifi, Zapdos will be a pain, because I heard it requires XD purification to get Baton Pass, and a lot of soft-resets for the right Hidden Power.

But if you're looking for a Baton Passer, I'm not sure it's so important.

Well first off give smeargle Ingrain because it will stop your team from being phazed. You absolutely need sub in here. Try giving it to umbreon or replace umbreon with vaporeon who can do the same but has better subs. Give Smeargle ingrain in place of belly drum as it will limit his ability to switch in. Acid armor is needed on Vaporeon or else priority attacks will take out your pokemon. I'd try to fit in zapdos in place of ninjask but I found another poke that can work just as good. Scizor is often used as a sweeper nowadays. If You lead with 'Gross no one expects him to have Baton Pass. He will use the usual SD on the switch. Then your opponent goes to either a fire type poke or someone who will wall scizor. Then you use agility as they hit you with a fire type move which is when your occa berry activates. Now you can get off the BP without having to worry about your opponent sending out a phazer. Try this set:

Scizor@Occa Berry
Jolly
252 Hp/ 80 Spd/ 176 SDef
-SD
-Agility
-BP
-Bullet Punch

This will give you a quick boost in speed and attack. If your opponents sends in a wall to block you then you can probably get multiple boosts. Gl

Why Baton Pass on Togekiss? Nasty plot only helps him.

Try Payback on Umbreon or any Dark physical attack for when he recieves a BP from Ninjask or Smeargle

Wow. Thank you so much. My first BP team was a smeargle with ingrain/spore/sub/baton pass but i got the final SD boosts from glicsor but it was too slow and required too many pokes to setup so i tried belly drum.

I'll def think of the ingrain/scizor advice.

Doesn't umbreon have better defenses than vaporeon? Will the umbreon set work if i replace protect with sub?

ty ;D

Also, is shoddy not working?

I think Gallade is gonna have some problems with Medicham hitting on his sis/mom/girl...

Overall, the team looks fine, but there are too many leads w/SR NOT to lead with Ninjask. Sure, the surprise value of a Ninjask coming in after your lead might surprise them, but it won't stop them from Taunting/Roaring you away, which will be even worse than if Ninjask was leading due to SR getting up. I would just move Ninjask to the lead position and have Metagross sweep. Metagross is typically(iirc) referred to as a better recipient than Medicham, due to its bulk and steel typing, which prevents CB Scizor from stopping your sweep with Bullet Punch. You should probably toss Medicham or Togekiss and have Mr. Mime in instead, to prevent Roar from destroying you. If you get rid of Togekiss, use CM / Sub / Taunt or Thunderbolt / Baton Pass. If you drop Medicham, use the same set above, but drop Nasty Plot on Togekiss for Psycho Shift or Roost, the latter deals with residual damage, while the former should help with Toxic + Wish + Protect Blissey.

I really think that metagross is adding nothing to the team as a lead. The point of a BP team is to get up the baton chain ASAP. Consider replacing Metagross with something along the lines of Zapdos (or just throw in another BPer and stick to Ninjask as a lead. However, this is a weak option at best).

The reason Smeargle is ever used on BP teams is for Ingrain. Belly Passing Smeargle is really ineffective on a BP team which can just get in a few swords dances.

All together, this team looks really thrown together and all around ineffective. I'd try looking at phenominally successful BP teams like this one and starting from scratch, such as Obi's (one sec and I'll edit in a link to this team). Smogon's Baton Pass Guide might also help.

As your lead, I highly recommend using either Ninjask or switching it to a fast Taun lead like Aerodactyl. Otherwise, Ninjask will be faced with Stealth Rock which really limits it's ability to boost.

This team has absolutely no way of stopping Roar and Whirlwind besides Smeargle's Spore. I rate this team as a standard team that utilizes Baton Pass, as stated in your first paragraph.

This means you want a standard lead instead of a Baton Pass lead. Otherwise, your team strategy is given away from square one. Use lead Aerodactyl. His fast Taunt is outmatched only by Electrode's, meaning you can reliably prevent your opponent from setting up SR whilst setting up your own Rocks.

Change Smeargle to a Ingrain set to permanently solve the phazing problem. A Belly Drum set, if successful, oftens wins you the game. But with priority moves and the rising usage of Swampert and Hippowdon, it's too risky to rely on. Ingrain also removes most LO recoil from Medicham.

Replace Ninjask with Baton Pass Zapdos. The reason for this is that everybody knows Ninjask always has Baton Pass, so they immediately send in a pHazer or priority move user. Zapdos doesn't. After one Agility, get the hell out of there and Baton Pass.

Medicham doesn't benefit from Nasty Plot. Replace Togekiss with Dancing Tank Gliscor. It's perfectably useable without Baton Pass support, but it contributes to the chain well with Baton Pass in place of Stone Edge. It also counters Lucario, who may often Swords Dance as BP teams get their boosts up, and use Extremespeed to take down Smeargle (and Ninjask).

On that topic, make Umbreon a Trap Passer set. Mean Look support is excellent, limiting your opponent to the use of only one Pokemon. Taunt is needed to stop pHazing, status and opposing Taunt. Mean Look + Taunt stops many BP threats. Use 252 HP / 84 SpD / 172 Spe. The Speed will enable you to outrun most Suicune and Cresselia without a Speed boost and outrun Scarf Heatran with an Agility Boost.

Also consider using Lucario over Medicham. It boosts superior stats and typing, resisting Toxic Spikes, Sandstorm and most priority moves, meaning it can come into play much easier. It too can OHKO the entire Metagame witha Life Orb Brick Break, Crunch and Ice Punch, even utilizing a priority move of it's own for its fourth moveslot. (I recommend Bullet Punch for Scarf Gengar).

Finally, many of your Pokemon are missing 4 EVs. Medicham needs 4 EVs in HP for example.
