I'd call it a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I thought a paradox was more of an immovable object and irresistible force type thing.
A paradox is just a directly contradicting statement.
But yes, I don't think he'd be that foolish. America has been know for it's often extreme retaliation.
I live in New Zealand so basically all I have to worry about is the threat of an Indonesian invasion as we have no military whatsoever.

Kim Jon Il's rhetoric is baseless. The only way he can possibly get a nuke to the US is by using a ship. Japan already has armed destroyers and Patriot Missiles that will create a web of flak if North Korea tries to launch an ICBM, and US antimissile systems and warships would act as a backup should a missile miraculously get through.
They could possibly use a plane to deliver the weapon, like the US did in 1945, but again, Japan would shoot that plane down.
A ship is the only way, and we know how wary the US is of North Korean ships at this moment.

Il is not stupid. He's just arrogant and deluded. No one can deny that if he even tried to nuke anywhere, Australia's forces alone would destroy him in two or three weeks. Imagine the combined force of America and the rest of their allies. Atomic war? More like atomic scuffle.
Are you saying that China and Russia don't have resources? Are you kidding me? North Korea would not attack China or Russia. It's suicide. And plus China and NK are both communist.

Yeah, I would agree that China/Russia are definitely out of NK's range. Kim Jong Il can't do much at all, it seems.
They are just using their fake power to get trade/ economic sanctions. IF they do attack anyone, it would be South Korea or maybe Japan.
Yeah, because they can't really support themselves. Though N. Korea has some of the highest literacy rates in the world I believe.
It wouldn't be smart for them to attacking anybody. The US will be all over their ass no matter who it is, especially S. Korea.
The U.S. wouldn't do anything until IF they do cause some serious damage. he U.S. is never eager for battle and we are really reluctant to do anything. I doubt anything will happen in the next 10 years.

First of all, 2012 is a myth, I don't believe in it at all, second, even if it was real, the mayans didn't actually predict the end of the world, simply that an event would occur that would change the world in a massive way.
Second, there's no-way in hell North Korea is going to decide to bomb "everyone", even if they could, over a rumor.

I'd imagine killing someone before your own eyes would be much harder then just pressing a button and not having to put a face on your victims, though I agree with you, just thought I'd leave that there.
How can the world ending in 2012 be a myth if we are still in 2009 and not even there yet? I mean wouldnt you think the only way we could say if it is a myth if it was December 22 2012 and we were still here?

I dont think it necessarily means apocalypse, it might just be one of the possibilities.
With some of the biggest issues right now going to green energy and trying to start up the world economy again to the pace it was before it might be the end of how we did things in the past, and a new chapter in humanity.
An end of the world as we know it could be a cure for cancer or some great invention or world movement for that matter; or an apocalypse.
2012 being the end of the world does make sense, but an apocalypse world? Probably not, but a new world of ideas? Knowing how fast we are changing now, it just might be that. Heck, I would consider it very likely we change for the better as a race by 2012 with everything going on right now or projected.
The main thing im trying to say is, we dont know until we get there, and what the end of the world even means or is.

I wonder what is worse? Having Mig-21's or having F/15's & 16's? What is worse having outdated Chinese/Soviet technology from the 60's or modern equipment from the US, Israel, EU, Turkey, Germany, UK.

South Korea have one of the worst Armies? South Korea is 6th Largest Overall with equipment from USA, Israel, Turkey. etc..In a conventional war South Korea will beat North Korea easily, not to mention that South Korea like Israel recieves major military aid, weapons, and technology more so than North Korea.
The only advantage North Korea has over South Korea is their artillery range able to bombard South Korea's capital Seoul and reduce it to rubble. Other than that North Korea would lose within 1-2 days hell even a few hours.
North Korea knows to attack the US would be suicidal and will only lead to Kim Jong Il seeing his regime crumble and losing everything he built.

However, Kim Jong Il does know that the US will do everything possible to prevent North Korea attacking anyone, even if they could do little to no harm to the U.S. itself. The U.S. does not want to risk an attack on South Korea, and this is why Il is able to get away with such outrageous threats. He knows that no matter how hard he pushes, nobody wants to push back and risk him "attacking."

Then you are a hell of an awful leader. Declaring war is a extreme measure, and should only be taken when all attemps at a peaceful agreement have failed OR national security of any country is in danger, and nuking everything would just prove how scared you as a leader would be
EDIT: Wishy, the Mayan calendar was based on both, astrological AND religious ideas the Mayans had. In their mythology, we humans were created after 4 transformation, we started as fishes, then monkeys, then giants and then humans as we know them today (if you pay attention, thats the cycle of evolution of humans).
