Shoddy Battle 2 (the future of Shoddy Battle)

Lets try answering a few of these.

i dont know if this has been said yet yet, but will there be a nu ladder?
Its a server option, not a feature of the program. So not relevant to this thread.

I would like to see natural gift as a move option as I know it's not popular but I use it on my SD shaymin set
All moves should be in SB2, even if not in the first release (found something in the source code that will send the text "But its unimplemented...", possibly implying that some moves may be added later.).

Okay, haven't browsed through the whole thread, so I don't know if these have been brought up before, but I have a few requests:

2 on 2. Don't pay any attention to this if it's two hard, but I was thinking for double battles you could team up or something. It would open up so many new tournament ideas.
I think this was brought up before in this thread. Not sure if it was answered though, worth checking.

No hax clause. This could be one of those boxes you check when you challenge someone. Moves would still be able to miss, but it would stop freeze from ice beam, burn from flamethrower, flinch from waterfall, etc.
Possible to add on a separate server, but not useful as part of the main package as changing game mechanics is not a good idea.
NU Ladder. If this is not planning on being implemented in shoddy battle 1, please consider it for shoddy battle 2.
See answer to first question, also reading up two posts can't be too hard really.

I posted this quite a while back, but I'm not sure if anyone saw it. It would be great if speed were listed last in the team builder, rather than in the middle. This seems to be the order most people use. Obviously, not that important, but just thought I'd mention it...
I'm in full agreement with this, a few times I've got a little muddled by this.

I really like the new look. I was just wondering if there would be different sprites because I prefer Platinum's sprites to Diamond and Pearl's sprites?
This has been brought up by many people (sometimes several per page, when will people read up..), the two answers given by bearzly were:
it would probably be possible to allow for other sprite packages, however, I'm not convinced that it is worth it
then later:
If someone can post a link to a complete package of platinum sprites, we could probably switch to use those. Otherwise, I would have to write a script to get the sprites which I may or may not get around to doing

The "But it's not implemented..." is just an artifact from when the program was just started. 100% of the moves and abilities will be there at launch.

Good to know.

Will the bits of text for the "Awesome" status effect remain in the final version (even if clearly it is not triggered by any normal moves)?

Also, I saw something that may imply a "pure DP" mode is possible along with the "Fake Platinum" mode without glitchy weather effects, will that be included in the first version/ever?

AwesomeEffect was just a joke (see shoddy battle 1 sources), but colin apparently has no soul and removed the messages. I think at one time there was a fake move in shoddy battle one that applied awesome effect, and it came up once through metronome.

I think the plan is for those metagames to be there, but since HG/SS are coming out soon the metagame situation may change

ERR Edit: NVM i just read the OP again and i've read that it's going to be much faster..

I do have another question though: Is SB2 still going to use Java??

Can we please have the reconnect option? As in, you're in a game, but then your net dies for one second, and you've lost. I'm sick of being disconnected all the time, it's affecting my voting requirements adversely.
Something like - you can reconnect/rejoin the battle until 2 minutes are up.

Ok, I don't have time to read through the 16 pages, so if I say anything that's already mentioned, I apologise in advance...

Firsly, it'd be nice if you could see your pokemon's moves without switching to them. Sometimes I forget who it was I ended up giving that ice beam to...

Also, I think it would be useful if as well as being able to save whole teams, we could save individual pokemon. This is for people, like myself, who tend to use certain pokemon in multiple teams. It'd be great if instead of having to write all the evs and tick all the attack boxes again, you could just go to 'load pokemon' and ta-da! there you go.

Finally, this ones a big ask (and I'm expecting a no...) but would it be possible to have the attack animations in the game? If not, I completely understand, that would be hard work. But... just putting it out there.

It is not part of the game mechanics to preview a move, barring a few exceptions such as Focus Punch or U-Turn, so your first suggestion would not be practical at all. Secondly, there is already a box feature in Shoddy Battle 1 that will probably be carried over to the second. Third of all, animations are not supported very well by Java, so it's not practical either.

EDIT: I misunderstood the first point, thanks to Veedrock for fixing that up for me.

As cyber said, you can already do this. Open up the Team Builder and go to Tools, then Open Box. In the Pop-up window, select to create a new box and name it. Then you can save a Pokemon into that box by opening up the file of the team that has it, going to it's tab, and clicking on Import in the box-window. Then, when you want to use that Pokemon on a different team, open up the box again, select the Pokemon, and click Export.

I don't know what you are talking about previewing moves. There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to inspect bench pokemon and in fact, that you can in Shoddy Battle 2 was stated in the original post.

There won't be move animations because (1) they are stupid and ruin the game and (2) the relevant graphics have not even been ripped. It has nothing to do with a limitation of Java. You could obviously have animations in Java.

Yeah, I edited that I misinterpreted what he said. I read quickly through it and thought that he meant when you switch, you preview the move that the opponent will make, therefore being able to make a smarter switch-in. This is something you can't do without something like Focus Punch and U-Turn, which is why I mentioned it. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I recently found a bug in shodddy that dosnt allow ditto to use a move of the transformed target with the choice scarf attached, and ditto goes straight to struggling. I dont know why nobody else didnt notice this, and that the DPP games all permit ditto to choose a new move after transforming before it locks moves again. Will this be fixed?

Yeah glitches like this should all be fixed.

OK, here's a suggestion. After my tournament battle a few minutes ago, I would like to suggest "ignore spectator chat". So I don't have to see stupid comments.

Well, I am a nood for both Shoddy and the Smogon forums, but I think the music, sound and animations would make it much less dull. That's the problem I have with Shoddy battle 1. It's much too dull and plain. It's fun to do, though. Don't get me wrong, but I'd like to see some excitement in this. I got Shoddy because I was bored with my DS and I spend way more time on my computer than on video game platforms. So, is there any possible way to get some sound and awesome looks in this? Just a thought.

There are tons of remixes of the different tunes in pokemon, and as such I'm sure you could find the music somewhere else (youtube) and just play it while on shoddy.

Yeah, that'd be good. One guy was following me around telling my opponents what my team was....

You understand that they could simply PM your opponent or say it and the opponent would still see even with the suggested function, just report it to a mod (preferably with logs) and they should get a kick or ban pretty quickly.

Good idea for a feature, though don't want to clog up the battle screen with too much. Maybe as an option on the main shoddy window under view or something?

Bearzly+ said:
tA feature that Colin failed to mention was that everything about the chat will be able to be styled (using css). This will let you customise the way that battle messages are shown, among many other things
Does this mean the in battle chat or main chat as well? I've never used an IRC channel, so I don't know if you can use CSS in it...

There is a problem that is kind of irrelevant to most of you, but I wanted to make a gimmick team using Assist and by packing it with moves that Assist would normally not pick, but Assist kept failing. This is because it picks a move that Assist should not be able to pick, and just says it fails. Can you fix it to just skip over the move and have Assist select the move from eligible moves only?
