Shoddy Battle 2 (the future of Shoddy Battle)

when two pokemon with the same name use the same move you can't tell if your pokemon or his is faster this is particularly common problem for leads not sure how to correct it but it smae fixable

I'm not sure if this question has been addressed but if so I apologize. (I've actually lurked a bit through the topic)

Anyways, what really frustrates me in SB1 is that when a battle is occurring of someone I know the user name of its annoying to look through the list and sometimes hard to find the particular battle. It would be convenient to have an option to find the battle by simply right clicking the user name of a battler and entering it that way. Is it possible?

This issue has pissed me off for a while now, so I'd like to know if anything is being done to change it for the future.

So, when someone registers their name and it has an 'L' in it, any user can make an account with an 'I' in place of the 'L', and the two names will appear the same on the chat. For Shoddy 2, can it be done so that I's and L's look different, cause this has been an issue for me and for others in the past.

Can we please have the reconnect option? As in, you're in a game, but then your net dies for one second, and you've lost. I'm sick of being disconnected all the time, it's affecting my voting requirements adversely.
Something like - you can reconnect/rejoin the battle until 2 minutes are up.
I have the same problem :(
Can someone answer the question plz?

If you look at the screenshot topic, you can see that they already are different colours. The colouring might change, but the distinction will still be there

It's actually been mentioned several times, and I will be making sure that's there

Uhhh well that has nothing to do with Shoddy Battle and everything to do with the font. You'll be able to change fonts using CSS, but for fonts where they happen to look the same there's nothing magical we can do

Just thought I'd say... I've been coding some things for Shoddy Battle 1 (a rudimentary bot that helps stop spammers, and a slew of mechanics changes I have yet to (READ: probably never will, thanks to this) implement, for quite awhile and I'd be honored to help Shoddy Battle 2 along in any kind of that way I can.

By the way, do you intend to implement custom type support? Because I can sure tell you, I've lurked around, and some modded servers would appreciate the ability to make more types should we feel the need. *raises fist* WHO'S WITH ME?

I don't see why you would, isn't 17 enough? That's enough for 289 type combinations, don't complain.

various modded servers have metagames that are mind-bogglingly different from standard with the various moves, items, abilities, and pokemon that have been added that the creators may find a new type would be necessary to balance (or in some cases, imbalance!) the current metagame.
or in some cases, they've just gotten bored of all of those things and want to try something new. >_>

You guys have identified most of the issues I had with Shoddy.

But there are a few things that I would think would be tops if implemented.

A way to start and stop a server without physicall going into the services and/or navigating the folders. Not that big of a deal but more of a sake of convience thing. Really minor actually.

A second thing would be something that would be part of the download server package. A program that helped Generated the code for new Pokemon, moves, types, and items ect. to help those that don't know how to code run a modded server easier. While you did said that it was going to be to the point that you can do it with any text editor, it means nothing if you don't know how to code/know someone that can code minumally. Unless I misread the thing and all you have to do is do non coding stuff in the Text editor to do it. If that could be implemented for sometime after the release that would be awesome.

Speaking of Servers I wouldn't mind seeing something like the Admin Server that Netbattle uses. Once again this is a convence thing and I found it to be a bit more user friendly and allowing for an invisible hand threat to be around, to try and curb down on some of hte more....offensive things people say.

I found another bug concerning Ditto, it appears that metal/quick powder effects continue working on Ditto even after it has transformed, while in-game the effects end after transformation. Will this be corrected?

I also had an idea that shoddy should have 3vs3 matches, would this be reasonable to add?

Shoddy Battle 2 is a completely new code base. Nothing is being "corrected" because it's all new code. Bugs in Shoddy Battle 1 do not indicate that I am ignorant of the correct mechanics, so there's no need to post about them.

I have an idea to end the stream of battle requests in the main chat once and for all. Instead of just having one main chat there would be two main chats. One would be the equivalent of the main chat that is in place now, for people to discuss things. The other would be one where people would request battles and respond to others' requests.

6v6 is silly. All I'd have to do is use a scarfed azelf with max+ attack and use explosion, while having all of my other pokemon use protect.

Maybe add some animation.

they have said time and again, there will be NO ANIMATIONS in sb2

guys I can understand not wanting to read eleven pages of posts but seriously at least try the first few pages

that's called theorymon, ie. it sounds cool now but you have no idea whether or not it will actually work (remember porygon-z?)

it is therefore not a good reason for the exclusion of 6 v. 6 battles

More information (perhaps in tooltips) is my main concern.
  • For those who don't fancy memorizing type charts or otherwise, show in some way what types have what effectiveness on all pokemon in play (anyone in your team, and the current enemy pokemon). Perhaps color-code the moves accordingly, as well. This is a big point for me, as it's a real pain to memorize everything. Would greatly help newish players as well.
  • Show the stats you have on your pokemon. I know the "show the stat boost levels" is in, but will it show what the modified amount is, then? Will it tell my unmodified amount?
  • Show the particulars of your move perhaps, as in its accuracy and power and such.
  • On the team builder, more detail about moves and easier searching. Is it physical/special/status? Can I sort by these claims, or better yet, do a netbattle-esque search?
  • This is a dumb idea, steel yourselves: perhaps even offer basic speed comparisons; obviously don't tell exactly what the opponent's speed is, but retrieve the min/max values for that pokemon and compare it to your current speed. If their minimum is more than your current, show that you will not outspeed them. If their maximum is less than your current speed, show that you will outspeed them. If you fall in the range, show that you might outspeed them. This all only done once it's been ascertained that they don't have any speed modifying items; like, text displaying heals from leftovers makes it clear that they are not using a choice scarf. It would show the ranges anyway and just say (unsure) or something when not sure of the held item. Obviously a lot of work for a flimsy feature, but hey, throwing it out there.
  • Can it please remember login info? I really hate having to type in my username and password every single time.
Ideally these would all be toggle-able in an options menu.

Lol. Focus Sash. Protect. Detect. Damp. Focus Band (Item Clause). Resistance. Physical Walls. Ghosts.

Hmm. Doesn't seem too viable now.
Actually it still does. I never said it would win the fight instantly, but people aren't going to use 6 pokemon that resist explosion (why should they have to limit their team to only rocks, steels, ghosts and phys walls just to protect themselves from a single strategy?). Thus a few are likely going down or being severely damaged at the cost of a single pokemon, greatly moving the odds in the other player's favor. If they do stock their team with e.g. only phys walls, they go down to some special attackers. Opposing focus sashes/bands are easily defeated by having abomasnow with protect on your team.

Damp would be a problem, but every strategy has some sort of counter, though this also means that people have to take up an entire pokemon slot on their team with a damp user just to protect themselves from the strategy (similar to how UU teams have to take up a slot on their team with toxicroak if they don't want to be eaten by decent UU rain dance teams); but regardless, when SB2 comes out I'll just build a team like this and show you exactly what I'm talking about.

it is therefore not a good reason for the exclusion of 6 v. 6 battles
I'm not sure why people seem to be reading "Therefore I don't think there should be 6v6 battles in shoddy battle 2" in my post, because I didn't write it.

I'm not saying 6v6 won't be at least kind of fun, just that it's more open to exploitation than anything else. I'm certainly looking forward to 3v3 and 4v4 though.

Will the CAP pokemon still be inplemented in Shoddy 2? Probably a dumb question but i want to confirm this. Is it possible to manually add pokemon to Shoddy battle 2 aswell? Without doing such difficult things as in Shoddy 1?
