When in the Resort Area, what is "The True King of the Area" (or however he said it) the man in the swimming pool is talking about? He said it is found by using a Super Rod there. Is he only referring to the high-level Magikarp?

Yeah, I actually managed to snag a level 72...

Can you rng abuse in ruby or sapphire or is it only in emerald and dppt?
Emerald and DPP are the ones we have cracked, so I'd say stick to them. Ruby and Saphire's RNG cannot be abused, iirc.

And TruKite, you can catch them anywhere between levels 1-100.

For honey trees in D/P/Pt, if I save before I encounter the pokemon can I soft reset for the rarer pokes, or is the pokemon already determined by the time the tree starts to shake?

As in, I can IV soft rest for Combee, but it will always be Combee until I faint/capture it?

The Pokemon is already determined. However, you can still reset for nature, gender, IVs, etc.

Yes. Once you save in front of a tree, and get a Combee, even if you reset, it will still be a Combee when you go up to it again.

Right I was just on Shoddy on NU, using my Drifblim with Unburden + Petaya Berry and something wierd happened.

I switched him in to SR when he was at 50%, meaning he went down to 25%, which should activate Petaya + Unburden and grant me a sweep.

For some reason this didn't happen and I was left with a helpless 25% Drifblim. I've looked on the Smogon pages for the berrys and Unburden and neither of them mention that residual damage doesn't activate them.

If residual damage does activate them, why didn't mine activate? And if residual damage does not activate them then surely Smogon's pages on these 2 should be updated as so.

Oh and, he had 440 max hp, meaning he ended up with 110 (which I checked) so it can't be because his Hp is odd.

Cheers :)

you're sure it was exactly 50% when you switched in? 1-2 hp etc. can be "less than a percent" i think .. so then you'd be that much "over" 25% (though it would still say 25 after the rocks) and thus not activate the berry? unless it rounds up for the %, but think about how when sash users are killed it says "lost 0% of hp". that's the only idea i have on it.

I switched in, took 25% from SR. = 75%
I then subbed. = 50%
I switched out because I was walled.
Switched back in, SR again. = 25%

No Petaya or Unburden boosts. No prior damage from sandstorm or attacks or whatever.

I wasn't seeded, no. None of mine or the enemy's pokémon had Leech Seed.

It's really confusing me lol.

Edit: Woo after over 18 months I finally hit 100 posts and I use it in the Q&A thread XD

I had that problem, too. I'm assuming that your berry didn't kick in because (possibly?) you have to be at lower than 25% health. I can't think of any other plausible explination but this one.

And happy .1 K. =]

Well the usual pretence of the set is to sub down to exactly 25% to get the maximum health and still activate the berry etc.

I've been playing all night on unrated NU and subbing down to exactly 25% to activate it.

But for some reason, SR didn't activate it.

So the only explanation I can come to is that residual damage doesn't activate it, in which case that info should be put onto the pages for the pinch berries on Smogon.

Edit: I tested this out battling myself and it turns out SR does activate Petaya Berry. It must have just bugged out or something. So don't worry about my questions. Cheers for the help anyway guys.

I see, thank you. ^_^

I managed to capture a level 80 and level 81. I suspect that level 99 and level 100 ones exists (as Xia mentioned), but level 100 would just be sadistic... ^_^;

Yes, you can find level 100 Magikarp there. I faintly recall someone mentioning that they had caught a level 100 shiny magikarp with excellent IVs across the board somewhere, though I cannot verify it (or find it, for that matter).

Q for those familiar with XD

Is it possible to soft reset for Greevils legendarys by...

  • catching 1
  • losing to get out of the battle
  • checking it's stats/nature after purifying some
  • going back in it for the rest
Thanks!

No. In XD, you need to win a battle to keep anything you snag. If you tried your plan, after your loss the legendary would go back to Greevil.

Could someone help me connect to IRC? I managed to get connected, but there's no one there. (literally) And yes, I read the IRC page a couple times, I'm nearly sure I did everything right, but it doesn't. Could someone PM me to help? (Or just post)

Speaking of Drifblim, is the Unburden boost merely a +2 Speed boost, and as such can be Baton Passed? Because I'm seeing the potential for sweeping my friends with a +2 Speed +2 Special Defense +2 Special Attack Alakazam.

Note: These are the guys that think Stealth Rock sucks, so I want to beat them especially hard. Maybe BellyZard will do the trick? I've never seen how a non-EV trained Pokemon stands against a +6 Stab Blaze Fire Punch.
