Don't really like Owl City, especially when compared to The Postal Service...

Thing is, though, Adam Young has apparently made a couple of Christian instrumental post-rock albums (I know, oxymoron, but they 'love Jesus Christ' according to their Myspace) with a band called Windsor Airlift, and what I've heard has been pretty good, nothing revolutionary in terms of the genre but rather soothing and relaxing as well as being quite tuneful. Must get one of their albums soon.

yeah i knew about that. Port Blue is supposed to be pretty good.

Oh, God, I saw them supporting Mastodon, they were utter shite. Lead singer (singer? Drunken screamer, certainly had a load of bottles...was singing an a capella ballad at one point as well) looked like he was going to jump off and maul someone...said stuff like 'ma dog's got tits' and 'I've got gay porn on my computer at home' and it really wasn't...well, good. Biased against grindcore that isn't Anal Cunt though.

i agree, they're not very good. especially because someone told me they sounded like Daughters, which i guess they kind of do, except that Daughters is innovative and interesting (and awesome).

if i could find another band that sounds anything like hell songs-era daughters i would die a happy man
don't hold your breathe.

you can't even be sure their next album will sound like that.

new Tegan and Sara is pretty great, and Stendeck is my favorite new discovery.

Top albums of 2009 so far, in my opinion (in no particular order):
Animal Collective-Merriweather Post Pavilion
I mean, its Animal Collective. 'Nuff said. (though still not as good as Feels, or maybe even Strawberry Jam)
The Antlers-Hospice
Horribly depressing, but highly recomended. Just absolutely, terribly, awe-fully beautiful.
Cymbals Eat Guitars-Why There Are Mountains
Similar to early Modest Mouse. Expansive, Straightforward, rock.
Wild Beasts-Two Dancers
If medieval bards were given modern instruments, this is what it would sound like.
Sunset Rubdown-Dragonslayer
Absolutely my favorite band ever, followed closely by Wolf Parade. Spencer Krug might actually be god. Though this isn't as good as the first two albums, its still my pick for album of the year
Volcano Choir-Unmap
While Collections of Colonies of Bees are really good, even if Bon Iver was singing over rusty nails scraping a chalk board I would still love it.

A few that may be good, judging by the two to three songs I have heard:
Tiny Vipers-Life on Earth
Memory Tapes-Seek Magic
YACHT-See Mystery Lights
Beach Fossils-LP
The Drums-Summertime!

Well I somehow missed BTS's new album coming out ~2 weeks ago, I'm going to get that very soon, I'll update this post with impressions later on.

Just downloaded and am listening to it now. Halfway through, and this shit is VASTLY underwhelming. I'm pretty bored by it, actually. It'll get the requisite 5 listens, but I don't see my opinion changing much.

Between the Buried and Me's new album was leaked today, giving it a listen right now, the 2 songs I've already heard off of it are amazing, I'm hoping the rest of it is just as good.

haven't heard much from the past year, but the new the chasm and beherit are excellent metal releases. new portal is alright. worst album i've heard this year is hands down the new dream theater album -- it's complete trash. can't believe this band used to be among my favorites a few years ago.

I like Metropolis Pt. 2, and I tried Black Clouds because a friend of mine recommended it to me (though he likes shit nu-metal and symphonic metal like Disturbed, Powerman 5000 and Nightwish - I really should know better), but I really couldn't get into it. Overblown prog garbage.

see? Altmer is a smart man.

Also, The Whirlwind released today, in like Sweden and Germany. Expect quality leaks. COmes out in America on Tuesday.

I picked up Metric's Fantasies after it'd been shelved for a while.. and its still pretty awesome! not as edgy or deep-cutting as their other albums but pretty fun and spacy.

btw I'm just bringing this up because Wishy got to go to the concert and I want him to tell me how amazing it was!!

also I didn't mind It's Blitz by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. the first, like, four tracks were listenable (the others were pretty much trash...) and especially Skeletons which tossed the glossy instruments to end up a pretty cool slow song. okay, yes, I need some new music but I'll sift through this thread in the morning.

qemists have released their first album, its pretty good mainstream drum and bass in the same vein as pendulum

It was so awesome!! Wow, they were much better than I expected they were going to be. Emily Haines sings very well live. :) It was amazing, so much energy in the crowd... There was no G/A but nobody was sitting and everyone who was on the ground floor swarmed the edge of the stage... Such a great experience!!

My only gripe, is that during their first 2 songs they had these flashing bright white lights, followed by these faster and brighter golden lights... Aimed at the audience. I thought I was going to go blind holy crap lol. They kept doing it during the chorus so I had to look away/close my eyes. Other than that though, it was excellent.

listened to Transitional: Stomach of the Sun, and even had 112kbps (:pirate:) it sounds awesome. will be buying very soon to get the full experience.

Fuck Buttons: Tarot Sport is currently finishing up for me, and it's pretty awesome. if you like grungy gritty electro-noise, this is right up your alley.

Hollywood Undead - Desperate Measures

The date was originally to be 27 Oct. 2009, but it got pushed back to 11 November 2009. Call of Duty and Hollywood Undead on the same day is going to be amaaazing.

ok i'm sorry but i just looked into this band and i'm quite positive that the song 'undead' is the single worst song ever recorded

glen relax we all liked linkin park when we were kids

no dude you don't get it

these guys are being 'ironic'. its a bunch of ex-hardcore man-boys who, when their scene stopped being cool, jumped on the 'ironic gangster' bandwagon only instead of just pretending they were gangster they started making music about it.

i dunno what it's like on your side of the pond but over here, a few years back, when people finally wizened up and realized that hardcore was shit music (going to terror shows was cool when all your friends went but admit it, deep down you were thinking 'really guys? really?' and so were they), some of the scenesters didn't know how to deal with it and started 'liking' hip hop. then semi-serious thug became the new cool for like, a week. it's not that week anymore.

it's not even so much that this hollywood undead band makes atrocious music, it's the sassy and sardonic tone that makes me so mad (not that like, 99% of their fanbase will even realize this but whatever).

Say Anything - Say Anything is fantastic. Still doesn't compare to ...Is a Real Boy (though nothing ever will, damn you, therapy and medication!) but it's millions of time better than their last album.

:| wow

I don't like judging peoples choice of music, but hollywood undead kinda sucks... my one 'friend' (more like mom's friend's son who thinks he's eurocore cool and wont leave me alone) keeps raving about them, but I dunno... I don't see the appeal. Whatever people see in this band is done 10x better by different acts. ~_~

Also, @bolded line: this is so, so true. At my school, all the scene kids rallied up and stopped blasting their myspace screamo shite and started blasting their lil wayne and being 'g'. holymoses on a stick I wanted to shoot myself, I've never seen them be so pretentious before ('yo nigga, lil wayne concert tuesday', 'best hiphop, the rest is shit'). It's funny cause people who like to capitalize on 'underground' fell for a mainstream act. which happens to blow chunks. Kanye West cocksuccckking followed afterwards. sorry for the huge useless post...

are we going to open up a 2010 albums thread? new vampire weekend in january, yay
