Was just peeking in on CAP's newest (very cool) creation, but can't help it-- would it be unreasonable to tsukkomi (but-in) on the point about a 1500lbs giant diglet using 宙返り (とんぼがえり、U-Turn)?

宙 = Air
宙返り = Mid-air Somersault

Very disturbing image. :P

Well, let's just say this thing is built for American Adults to play with, and not built for a Japanese Children's Video Game. xD

If you take a look at KnightoftheWind's avatar, it doesn't seem so weird.

Besides, flavor has never been too important in movepools anyway

So, you really only work on OU here? Are you ever going to start on UU or NU?

(I personally find OU battles very dull and repetetive)

CAP only experiments with the OU metagame, yes.

if you don't like the standard OU metagame, you should try CAP! it's surprisingly different.

It's OU + CAPs. Currently we are doing playtesting, which tests the effects of one cap on the whole ou metagame. After playtesting, we do OU + all the CAPs, so that would make OU + 9 new pokemon. Yes, they are in OU, and it has its differences from standard. You could say it is un-standard, but it's not like OU got flipped upside down. At the CAP server, there is also Little Cup and NU ladders to try out, if you are bored with regular OU, however.

EDIT: Bluebolt if you have this many questions perhaps you should look at our website at http://smogon.com/cap/ @_@

hey i read Doug´s interview in the smog some time ago and i realized he said that the original idea of CAP was to create pokemon and then send them to nintendo to check if they would include them.
My question is, is that still one of CAP´s objectives? since it would be just awsome to see scylant, colossoli, etc on the 5th gen (if there is one) and it makes sense since nintendo only has to include the pokemon on their games becouse we have created everything else :D

I'll just use a quote from that same interview to answer you, "I always thought it was ridiculous to think that Nintendo would take a fan creation and incorporate it into their billion-dollar worldwide Pokémon franchise."

To Nintendo, our CAPs are just fakemons made by a bunch of kids.

Yeah but there is a diference from fakemons created by kids and CAP´s maily since what we do is create a pokemon that affects the metagame in a way that doesn´t make it broken and then test it by adding it to the actual metagame we have. Also i considered that to be Doug´s opinion but perhaps somebody still wanted to send the CAP´s to nintendo. I think it is not likely to become real but trying won´t harm anyone

I really doubt that it was one of Doug's objectives in the first place. But then, Doug wasn't running CAP when it started up...

Nintendo has said that they're not allowed to accept fan ideas due to legal reasons. This includes new Pokémon. You can e-mail them yourself if you don't believe me.

tl:dr CAP Mafia?

Would we be allowed to start up a CAP mafia game, featureing pokemon from CAP? Seeing as this fourm is focused on competitive aspects ect. This would probably be dejected. But, I personally think that this would be great for covering downtime between creations (after playtesting, before next project).

I'm fairly sure Nintendo don't give a flying fuck about "metagame" or "OU" or even "broken". And they probably get plenty of E-mails every day from kids saying "HAI I HAV THIS AEWSUM IDEA FOR NEW POKEMANZ" and long ago decided to ignore anything related.

Besides, they're a large company. Their ego would never allow them to believe anyone could make something better than them. I highly doubt they even pay any attention to Smogon, maybe they don't even know what it is. Smogon, Marriland and Serebii combined probably contains only a very, very small percentage of their market.

I apologize if this is already answered in another topic. Is there a predicted date on when the CAP revisions will go online? Will they all be done at the same time or separately? Thanks.

Is it better to base a concept on already existing aspects?

no, why would people vote for something that has already been done?

Also, the purpose of CAP is to explore the metagame by having something new and different inserted into it. We can't do this with something that already exists.

no, by this i meant something that already exists, but isn't successful in OU, such as abilities like compoundeyes

Eventually, at the same time.

Yes as long as it follows all the rules for concepts.

Ah ok, that is a pretty good idea, and has alreAdy been done once with Cyclohm, looking at that process might help you.
