Best Movie of 2009?

I'm surprised no-one else has mentioned 2012. It's not remotely good - some of the action scenes are so over the top that I was literally laughing in the cinema. But given people are mentioning bad movies, did no-one else see this?
I can't wait for Intuitor's Bad Movie Physics to get onto it. I think it has a good chance of outdoing The Core for scientific wrongness.

i forgot i even saw 2012. it's too stupid and embarrassing, even for a shitty disaster flick. emmerich hits a new low, dick in hand.

also taken is 09..? it's decent i guess. points for liam neeson fucking people up.

I've watched both of these in the past week, so I can say that Sherlock Holmes and Up in the Air are both fan-freaking-tastic movies. Go watch them.

Besides that, Watchmen, Star Trek, the Hangover, District 9, and Inglorios Basterds were all pretty good.

By far the worst offenders this year were Transformers and Terminator: both were meant solely as Cash Cow movies.

what i liked:
inglorious basterds
zombieland
taken
the hangover
up in the air (im gonna assume that the reason almost no one mentioned this is cause its new)
up
500 days of summer
district 9

and stuff i havent seen yet that i've heard good things about:
-the hurt locker
-the road
-fantastic mr. fox
-the princess and the frog

Off the top of my head.

Best Movies (rating):

Watchmen (9.9/10)
Avatar (9.8/10)
Sherlock Holmes (9.8/10)
Star Trek (9.8/10)
Inglorious Basterds (9.75/10)
Zombieland (9.5/10)

Underrated Movies:

Transformers 2 (8.5/10)
G.I. Joe (8/10)

Meh movies:

District 9 (6/10)
Terminator (5.5/10)
Precious (yes I actually saw this) (5.5/10)*

*Acting was excellent, however I really disliked how it was done.

I have seen more movies iirc, but these are just off the top of my head.

God am I the only one that didn't think Bastards was that great? It was ok, but not the best movie I wouldn't watch it twice. I really liked Zombieland and Watchmen though!

this was a pretty shitty year for new realeases. I'm probably gonna wait for the oscar Nom's to come out before i start actually paying attention and watching movies. There are just so many bad movies out this year that I can;t spend all my time seraching for good ones.

For example, last year I woudl say the best movie to come out was the wrestler. It had great acting, an original story, a powerful theme and perfect ending.

I honestly cannot say that there is a SINGLE movie that has come out in 2009 that is even remotely as good of a movie as the wrestler. Sure, the hangover or avatar may be just as entertaining, but those two do not leave you with the same sense of satisfaction that the wrestler does.

ok.

I haven't seen very many, sadly.

I liked:

Transformers 2
New Moon~ Don't ask...a little too romantic, but still pretty good.
Blind Side~ Efiing awesome and powerful movie!
Harry Potter~ Worse than expected, but still pretty good.
I Can Do Bad All By Myself~ A little emotional in parts, but it's hella funny.

BAD:
PostGrad~ Just awful; I talked through the entire thing, which is a rarity for me. Bad, just bad.

That's all I can think of, so yeah. They're the most memorable I guess.

No Twilight fans in this thread :O

Avatar, Up, Star Trek and The Hangover were all good.

Watchmen was slightly better than expected, but still a travesty compared to the novel.

Transformers was holyshitbad.

inglourious basterds was greatgreatgreat

i hear up was impressive, sadly missed it

you win the prize for being the only person in this entire thread to spell "inglourious basterds" correctly :(

anyway, yeah, I'm not a big movie watcher but that one pretty much blew my mind. Sherlock Holmes was good but I wished it was a bit "cleverer." And I really liked the Harry Potter movie and thought it was the best one so far.

Am I the only person who hated Avatar? Seriously, that move was just some pretty shit.
You are not the only one. Although the effects were quite good, the story was boring and easy predictable. Also I could have watched two movies for the money I payed for Avatar.

Best adult/action/drama movie - Inglorious Basterds
Best effects - Avatar
Best family movie - Up
Best comedy - The Hangover

best movie overall - Inglorious Basterds

yeah

The hangover was funny but most parts were either extremly predictable or cliche. It was good but to say that it is the best of this year is a bit of a stretch. Zombieland was much funnier and it wasn't supposed to be just a comedy...

Inglorious Basterds was great I still need to see Up and District 9. I dont want to see Avatar unless I can see it for free. I can see it already its probably just like 300...

I am glad nobody said New Moon or else I would have lost my faith in humanity.

Taken was good, but only for the badassery. District 9 was probably my favorite movie of 2009. It had a lot of very deep yet very unusual themes played out by a unique character. All of this was shown extremely well with all of the grit and disgusting events being believable until the end.

I did not see very many movies this year, but of the ones I saw, District 9 was by far my favorite. Avatar, which I saw just two days ago, had amazing visuals and such but just lights and digital effects. Not exactly what makes a good movie. District 9 had that as well as a great storyline and meaning.

Some movies I wish I did see were Up and the Hangover.

The only 2009 movie I saw this year was Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It was actually a lot better than I thought it would be, might even be my favorite Harry Potter movie.

I watched inglourious basterds and I didnt really like it.

The problem with it, is that he has used his sudden unexpected brutal murder joke too many times for it to be unexpected.

Also yeah, 2012 was really, really bad.

Have a nice day.

I liked Up, The Hangover and Star Trek.

I didn't see too many movies this year but the most overhyped and disappointing one imo was Avatar. If you ignore the effects and 3-D shit, it has a really hackneyed plot that's like a cross between Pocahontas and a documentary about indigenous Amazonian Indians. To me, it's really nothing new to me and the people saying it was amazing beforehand really let me down. The worst part was I knew what was going to happen the entire movie within the first 30 minutes, so the predictability spoiled the experience. I didn't hate it, but I do feel that I spent too much money ($11 for a ticket..with coupon!) and overall I felt bothered by the movie.

The worst was 2012; I like cheesy disaster movies, but this is such a shameless copy of The Day After Tomorrow, it's not even funny. I'm not saying that was good and I know Roland Emmerich directed both, but seeing both, the similarities are just too close to ignore. They just tweaked the story a bit and spent the rest of the time choreographing the special effects and even then I think they spent too much time on the shallow fucking characters and not on the disasters themselves which is the whole point to seeing these otherwise insufferable movies.

I also saw Bruno and the Princess and the Frog. Both were meh, Bruno relied too much on stupid shit and the Frog wasn't as good as the Disney films I grew up with.

Special mention for Paranormal Activities: I didn't watch it but my god it was hyped. It looked stupid to me.

Liked: Avatar, Invictus, Transformers 2, the Hangover, Adventureland, Up, Up in the Air, Precious, Paranormal Activity

Hated: Sherlock Holmes, 2012, the men who stare at goats, star trek, Inglorious Basterds

Given that I'm a bit bored right now, I may as well summarize my verdict on the films I remember seeing this year:

Great

Watchmen
.

I'm sorry but this was the 2nd most worse movie of all time. Second only to A.I............

Don't think there was any great movies this year =/. For instance, Jennifers body was ok, but I couldn't get over the fact it was just like an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Quirky/Funny conversations mixed in with some humourous death scenes.

I am glad nobody said New Moon or else I would have lost my faith in humanity.

Two people said they like New Moon, 5 posts before your own. =P

New Moon was very disappointing. Very basic plot and not nearly as much action as the trailers implied. Plus it wasn't very cinematic as the 1st =(
