As for types, there's one that I think needs attention alongside Steel/Dragon: WATER. Water definitely deserves a spot along Dragon/Steel as an overpowering type. Like Dragon it is really powerful both offensively and defensively due to neutrality.

offensively: Neutral to all types except dragon, grass and water (so all of them are weak to ice, except water which makes the water circle-jerk even more prevalent). What more could you ask for in a primary STAB, with ice as one of the best secondary attacking types in the game?

defensively: Only weak to 2 types (grass = crap, electric = only average at best, both are very "meh" as a main stab)

Compare that to dragon which is weak to ice (one of the best and most prevalent offensive types hands down) and resisted by steel (one of the best and most prevalent defensive types hands down), and you realize water as a type is arguably even better/more dominating than dragon.

The only real difference is that Dragons have Draco Meteor and Outrage along with better offensive base stats overall, but that doesn't change the fact that defensive water types are a bitch to take down and STAB water is not easy to defend against. Hell, water is such a nice attacking type that some pokemon use it as a secondary despite its lack of super effective hits and pokemon like Gyarados and Suicune can run sets that don't even have a secondary attack (crocune, res-talk gyara).

I don't think alterations to water should be made, but I would like to see some much better grass and electric pokemon that learn good secondary moves (grass types that learn fire attacks, electric types that learn Ice Beam/Good Ice Physical). Another dragon type oriented towards beating water (isn't 4x weak to ice) would be nice.

At the same time though, I would also like to see some more offensively-oriented water types. Water has such awesome potential as a dominating offensive type (lol, Kyogre), but even the most offensive OU water types, Gyara and Starmie, have to take a somewhat defensive-role because of a lack of base power (gyara's water fall) or a meh offenive base stats (imagine if Starmie's hydro pump was backed by 130 base special attack). Some frail sweeper-types and water attacks with higher base power would be nice to see (though again, balanced by the release of some really great grass/electric types).

And by great I mean GREAT. Grass is such a crappy type both offensively and defensively, the pokemon's got to be ridiculously good to make OU, and then even celebi, arguably the best of the bunch with 600 BST, is only "average."

Also, Pokemonopal.com and Pokemonamethyst.com has been registered by Nintendo of America. It still doesn't mean a lot, but there's no reason to buy domains if you're not going to use them in some way (altrough Nintendo did bought pokemonwhite or pokemonblack or something among those lines at some point)..
It's not pointless. It's to keep other people from trying to buy the real-sounding domains and use them to sell bootleg copies and stuff like that. In any case though, I believe both of those websites have been owned by Nintendo for quite a while now, so they most likely don't mean anything at all--it's highly unlikely Nintendo would have already determined the names for these games that long ago.

Plus, I believe that this is pretty much what happened before Platinum was released. People were appealing to those same sites as the third version for Diamond & Pearl, particularly Pokemon Opal due to the correct speculation that the game was going to revolve around Giratina (if you weren't around for that and don't recall, Giratina's name partly comes from the Girasol, or Fire Opal, like Dialga's partly comes from Diamond and Palkia's Pearl), but yet it ended up being called Platinum, and not Opal, or even Amethyst. As a result, those sites really don't mean anything.

And Breloom is only OU because of a really REALLY great combination what Grass does the best(Leech Seed+Spore can only be seen on grass types... no matter what) and it's other traits(STAB Focus Punch and Poison Heal).
I mean, anything with Spore+Leech Seed would be good. That "anything", in the future, is only possible on grass types. A saving grace for them... except Nintendo doesn't give Spore to almost anyone...

Oh yes, another thing: Nintendo, why the hell bugs can't get past the 500 BST?
Yanmega being the exception(i don't even consider Shuckle...).

@Breloom-- yeah, and even this guy almost never uses Seed Bomb because it's such a crappy offensive type. At least compared to fighting. :/

@Bugs-- Water / Bug + Compound Eyes, Mix-Sweeper Stats @530BST and Megahorn + Hydropump

Beyond the much request dragon resist for ice and poison weakness for water, I've always thought that ice should have a water immunity for just that reason. Those three changes would fix nearly all the complaints i've heard about the type chart. Water and dragon would be pulled back a little offensively, ice much boosted defensively, and poison would get a bump as well.

Baseless speculation:

Skarmory evolution. That thing never did learn Hyper Beam/Giga Impact. Look for Skarmory to be banned from LC immediately.

Kangaskhan prevo for more cute throwaway pokemon. Kangaskhan now to dominate with Encore, Sweet Kiss, Charm, and Sing.

Hopefully we'll get somewhat unique types on the Fossils. Cradily and Armaldo weren't the greatest competitively, but they provided something new and different. Hopefully we'll get something like Rock/Dark and Rock/Poison.

How much more will the new Normal/Flying bird fail compared to Staraptor? Will Fearow finally has something it outclasses? A ton and probably not, are my guesses.

Maybe the new Bugs will get lucky like Butterfree with Powders. And no crippling 4x weakness to SR... Dustox would have been great with Sleep Powder, now it's largely a bad Venomoth.

Decent physical Electric, Ice, and Fire moves for non-humanoid Pokemon, please. Preferably Leaf Blade clones with Claws.

Impossible:

Give Poison a Dragon resistance. With love from Weezing, Tentacruel, Gengar, and Crobat.

oh hell YES. I know its a really good pokemon already but it'd be cool to see how far they can push its stats seeing how it has one of the lowest BSTs of OU. we might finally get THE physical wall, like the way blissey is now for special.

Speculation:

Maybe they'll actually make an evolution for Luvdisc, considering its the worst pokemon ever created ever.

Jynx to get an evolution: of the Electabuzz/Magmar/Jynx group from RBY, Jynx is the only one that didn't get an evolution in DPP.

Shuckle to get an evolution: and it will be awesome if they finally make it the wall that it could be.

Fire types that aren't crippled by Stealth Rock: namely, Fire/Anything that resists Rock.

Indeed, though I disagree with you saying that Luvdisc is the worst Pokemon ever; Unown is.

Also, I think Banette should get an evolution as well considering that Dusclops got one.

Is there an official site to make suggestions? Ice resisting Dragon would be the single biggest change they could make to the typing chart.

Poison is a WORTHLESS attack type right now. Almost nothing runs even STAB poison. Being super-effective against water makes pokemon like Muk and Weezing VERY happy, and I think that would be good for the game also.

I recall Nintendo made an official forum post for hearing suggestions on what to add to Super Smash Bros. Brawl, maybe they do the same thing in pokemon forums?

The problem with that is that even if there were a suggestions site, it would probably be in Japanese because the games are released there first.

No, no, no, no, NO!!! Gamefreak already ruined Magneton by evolving it into that abomination that is Magnezone, they cannot do the same thing to Skarmory.

Wow, this is awesome. Though they probably won't, I'd like to see an increase in BST for certain Pokemon. For example, Raichu, Wigglytuff, Exploud, and to an extent Pidgeot, are all hampered by average to low BST totals, but this can't be alleviated by an evolution since they've all hit their final stage.

..Though I'd still like to see an evolution for Corsola and Farfetch'd. 8)

Magneton to Magnezone was a much more creative evolution than Magnemite to Magneton. And it also made the Magne family useful, after all (Magneton was used in Advance solely to kill Skarmory and then become dead weight).

Idk Magnezone just never appealed to me. I will always believe that Magneton looks much cooler than Magnezone. I realize it's useful and more creative but damnit it just looks ugly imo.

Lol yeah, I agree. I liked its D/P sprite, but the Platinum one kills it, it looks deformed compared to Magneton (which is actually cool too, just not that original).

And now, look what I found, people. It's actually old and I guess I have posted once already, but here it is:

When we were developing Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire,
we went back to where we started
and discussed changing the number of Pokemon
you can carry, or the number of moves Pokemon can learn,
but in the end we came to the conclusion that
the original numbers were the best, and that
not one more or less would make the game more fun.

This may seem like being not too much, but what I see from this is a Masuda saying back in the R/S development phase, Game Freak didn't change the number of team/moveslosts not because "it has always been like that", but because they really thought the good old 6x4 still was the best combination.

I'm not saying they feel the game needs a different combo (for now, I know I do at least but lol who am I) but, if they feel they need to change it to AxB, they will. They're not tied to any convention supposedly created by them in the beginning of the Pokémon era or anything.

Lol so much for increased Pokemon slots and more move slots. I personally like having lots of Pokemon, even if it means that a single team can't counter everything because it adds more variety to team building. Furthermore, I think it would be boring if a team could counter everything, and I'm simply opposed to the idea of having the "absolute best team ever".

They are never going to increase base stats for any Pokémon.

EDIT: Rotom formes. I feel stupid.

grass ghost type, then be able to trade it to gardenia (cookie if you get this)

lapras evolution, a unique pokemon with a good movepool, too good abilitys, hampered by too lowe stats and commen typing. I want an ice-dragon evolution for lapras!

it'd have problem with rock though
maybe another dragon/water? this time a defensive one :drools:

The type system isn't going to change in regards to weaknesses/resists. I can almost 100% assure you that.

I don't expect nintendo to know much - if at all - about pokemon games hacking community.

On completely unrelated note, special version of Dragon Dance would be really interesting to see, especially on something that can beat Blissey one on one.

I guarantee you they've seen the domain before. Also, there's plenty reason to buy domains: domain squatting. I would love Amethyst Version though. :D Anyway, from experience, developers tend to keep an eye on the fandom, though I imagine Game Freak know more about the Japanese fandom.

You assholes keep stoning Kangashkhans to death in the Safari Zone so the babies keep becoming Cubones crying over the loss of their dead mother :(

I hope you realize they didn't actually pay attention to the form for Smash Bros. as far as anything that made it into the game. The design document was finished long before that.

As someone pointed out about bugs being limited to BST 500; I'd like to see a Legendary Bug. I'd also think it would be cool to have starters of Fighting/Dark/Psychic instead of Fire/Water/Grass, but I don't expect that to happen.

Also, everyone speculating on the change from the 6x4 poke/move format are missing the point; It won't stay as it is due to tradition. It will stay as it is because without it, these new games are completely locked out from participating with the only-just-released DPP/HGSS generation, and that's a big marketing problem.

Who said you won't be able to have a team with at most six pokémon with at most four moves each in 5th Gen if they change the 6x4 format? It'd just be GSC Time Machine all over again.

Just like GSC couldn't battle with RBY, RS couldn't connect with GSC at all and DP couldn't battle with Advance? Battling incompatibility has happened on ALL generations.
