Impossible. It can't evolve with a Moon Stone in DPPt, it won't evolve with it in 5th Gen.

Same here. It didn't evolve by this method back then, it won't evolve now. Unless, of course, you need a new hold item to do so...
Is there any particular reason you're saying this? In DPPt, when you breed Mantine you get Mantyke. This wasn't true in previous generations. This is just an example. There's no reason why something that doesn't cause a pokémon to evolve in one generation won't cause it to evolve in the next one.

Edit: I realize it's not exactly the same as evolution but it's a similar idea.

I have some speculation about this new little critter we've got here (Note: my speculation is based on that it's some kind of "Warewolf" thing)

First: Maybe there is a new field effect that relates to night in some way? If so, this could be a form-changer in...let's just call it darkness for now. That would be something like Shaymin, but without the need of an item to change form, and goes with the whole "Warewolf" theme many speculate about. Personally, I would like it to be a Dark/Ghost with killer offense;) Unfortunately it doesn't exactly seem like a ghostly one to me, and more like Dark/Fighting, like most people think.

Second: If there was a darkness field effect, I'd really want there to be a Dark pokemon with the ability to induce it, and take advantage of it (Think Tyranitar).

EDIT: If it's not obvious by now, Dark is my favourite type, so I might not be realistic about my speculations:P I can actually agree that before anything, Fire types need a boost, unless stealth rock gets nerfed. Also like the idea of Tail Glow on Ampharos and Lanturn. I've been really puzzled as to why Amphy never got that...

Hype will just keep rising from here is my guess:)

In order to get mantyke and not another mantine, I believe the mother (but possibly the father) needs to be holding a wave incense, which was new to the 4th gen. So far it has been impossible for a pokemon who gets an evolution/baby in a new gen to duplicate the evolution/breeding conditions in the previous gen, which is a precedent that IMO needs to stay.

I actually dislike how they go to such irritating lengths to keep the continuity. I'd much prefer it if Espeon and Umbreon were the results of the Sun Stone and Moon stone, Leafeon by Leaf Stone and Glaceon by some new stone. And breeding with the incesnses is just annoying...

Despite not believing that this will be a Lucario evolution, this is wrong; Piloswine could get AncientPower in the 3rd Generation, and yet did not evolve.

As we all know, the 4th Gen is a completely different story.

Let's not forget Lickitung and Rollout now. They kinda messed up this evolution thing with those two.

I've got to play devil's advocate for these two. Leveling up knowing moves wasn't an evolution type back then, so it kind of-sort of doesn't count. Pokemon currently evolve by use of a moon stone, so they won't add another moon stone evolution (unless it's on a new pokemon).

This particular line of conjecture is logically fallacious. They program the game, they decide what happens. Past actions hold little to no basis on the possibilities. Granted, there are a zillion ways to have riolu evolve without breaking continuity so it really doesn't matter.

"Sorta" doesn't really cut it the way I see it. If they didn't want to break tradition they wouldn't have given AncientPower and Rollout in 3rd Gen, respectively. You're telling me that GF's lack of future planning/insight/whatever towards how they would evolve in a new gen doesn't count towards some unofficial rule that only exist because GF don't like change? I don't even know why GF still following through with this "tradition" anyway?

Who's That Pokemon?! (sorry, couldn't resist)

Hmm, Is it gonna be an OU, or one of those UUs that look very powerful, but turn out to be useless. Well, if it's in the movie, it'll most likely be OU or Uber for that matter.

What I am trying to say is that if the mechanic didn't exist in the previous gen, they technically aren't breaking tradition because it couldn't have evolved by leveling up with a move, since that didn't happen in 3rd gen. It's shaky ground, but it's what GF was thinking. Either that or they just don't care :P.

Anyone wanna start the countdown until the furries get their hands on the previewed 'mon?

It's almost certainly nothing to do with Lucario. It's going to be the "image of the new gen." They're not going to make a later-evo the soul of 5th-gen. It's going to be a completely separate Pokemon.

I wish they had never implemented that rule. I know as a kid I wouldn't have been outraged if in Gen 2 Eevee evolved into Umbreon and Espeon with the Moon and Sun stones (like they should have) even if it couldn't in Gen 1. All it does is create absurd methods of evolution like ones based on area and knowing specific moves. Maybe Riolu can evolve by knowing a new Dark-type move :[
Edit:
Despite my post being an hour after yours, I didn't see that I posted nearly the same thing as you haha.

Hey, Im I the alone hoping for a Mime Sr.?
Lol, Mr. Mime with a cane? His evolution would be triggered by Mr. Mime knowing Amnesia. I think a female version would be more probable, to remedy the gender confusion Kirlia had.

Mrs. Mime it is, then! :)

u know what i think has been long overlooked? a haunted armor pokemon. ghost armor have been baddies in many games over the years. it would be Ghost/Steel and crush everything with pure awesomeness.

I heard stuff like this every time a new generation come up and I constantly ask myself "Why can't they evolve from pre-existing methods?" Is they're some official rule state any new gen evolution must evolve from a new method and/or new items or something?

Well, excluding Rollout Lickitung and Ancientpower Piloswine, they never evolved a pokémon with a method that was already possible in older generations. That's the reason they create new items and incense every gen only to evolve a pokémon, or breed a baby. Another example is Leafeon: If they didn't care about this precedent, they could have just made it evolve with a Leaf Stone, or make it evolve giving a Miracleseed to Eevee and trading it (or a Nevermeltice so it could evolve to Glaceon).

However, as they said once the 6x4 pokémon model isn't set to stone (they only kept it in the GSC -> RSE transition because they thought it was the best one), this model might not be either. But as of now, let's just say "they will keep it".

Spirit tracks refernce? lol

Oh and there's no Mrs. mime because it's only "Mr./M. Mime" in the english/french versions; all others aren't gender specific

Personally this is what I see:

Kind of a crappy outline, but you get the idea.

Judging by his body alone, I think it's going to be a Dark type. Going by the name of the movie, Illusion makes me think of a psychic type, like messing with your mind type of deal.

Psychic/Dark with 4x bug, neutral resist everything, and immune to psychic?

I'm still waiting on my Ghost/Normal Zombie Pokemon.

Among other things, I want ...

-Dragon pokemon based off of Chinese Dragons
-Pokemon that could abuse Sunny Day as much as Kingdra, Ludicolo, etc. abuse Rain Dance. When was the last time you saw a Sunny Day team work as well as a Rain Dance team?
-Legendary Fighting and Legendary Bug pokemon, perhaps based off of the Tiger and the Centipede.

Bannette shoulda been ghost normal, like a zombie. It is a zombie of a toy, according to the dex. Evolve it into a zombie of a person.
