Inzaghi to equalize.

I guarantee it.

2-3 btw
Red card for Carrick, time-wasting cheat.

Final whistle. Excellent game overall. It was very up-and-down match with both sides having periods of domination, disappointing to see Thiago and Insaghi muck up chances in the dying moments. Also, Alan Green is the most biased commentator ever. If Milan had been half as clinical as Rooney, they would have scored about 6, there's still a chance at OT thanks to Seedorf. On a side-note, fat Barry equalised for Man City and the idiotic referee ruled out a fair Stoke goal in the last minute.. It's also nice to see some good old Italian projectile-throwing. It's a shame they didn't smuggle a moped in to throw down.

(Useless omen; I retain hope)
United won the first leg of their tie against Milan in 2007 3-2 and went on to lose the second leg 3-0. Perhaps history will repeat itself.

United should be through Milan won't get much at Old Trafford, but United were awful tonight. Play like that against a team that can finish and they will be out. The commentary was awful so biased

I knew the overhyped Real Madrid would struggle against Lyon.

Yeah, and five years ago, Kaka was still playing for AC, Pirlo was 26 years, Seedorf was 29 and Dida was still top class

Just sayin'

Are you kidding five years ago Dida was considered one of the top 5 keepers in the world, now he isn't even top 20 and Pirlo peaked at the last World cup when he helped carry Italy to the finals. Ronaldinho at his prime was better then pretty much any player this generation or Kaka has ever been, but Kaka has been the better player since 06. That version of Milan also had a prime Shevchenko and a very good Gattuso.

I did use :naughty:.

Although I disagree with what I wrote above, Man Utd's defence has been far from consistently good this year so if Milan play like they did today (but learn how to score), they could give them a game. Hope Fergie plays 4-5-1 again, although if they have Berbatov or Owen in the team they're basically playing with 10 men so 4-4-2 will do as well.

I hope that someone like Heitinga breaks Rooney's foot so Utd lose to Villa and Milan but Rooney recovers in time for the World Cup.

You're funny. Pirlo and Seedorf are still top class players, absolutely. But there getting older now and don't have the strength to do the same they did 5 years ago. Dida has improved? You have to be kidding. He's a lame excuse for a goalkeeper. Even the slowest shots Dida wouldn't be able to stop properly so that says enough. And Ronaldinho better then Kaka? I'm not even beginning over that

The reason Man Utd's defence hasn't been consistent this season is because we've hardly ever had a fully fit defence, to be fair. However, since van der Sar's return and the partnership of Brown and Evans gelling, we've looked better - as recent results have shown.

unoo, who do you support? You seem to have a strong dislike of Manchester United for some reason... I may dislike some teams but I don't wish injuries upon any player no matter how much of a cunt they are - see Steven Gerrard.

As for tonight. AC Milan got a somewhat lucky opening goal very early on and United looked edgy for a while. Evans had one of his poorer games, I feel that without Brown or Vidic in the centre of defence, United lack a real ball winner in the air. Ferdinand and Evans are both similar in that they're more of the sweeper kind of defender that cleans up and wins the ball on the ground. Vidic and Brown don't mind going in full force for a header and leaving their mark on someone, United missed that against Milan. It also didn't help that United gave the ball to Milan in the midfield countless times. I may seem biased, but it was more the fault of United giving the ball to Milan as to the reason they were more on the attack, and not Milan ripping through United's midfield and defence at will.

Milan were on top for large portions of the first half, but you could see they were starting to tire a little after about half an hour of trying to close down and put pressure on United. United struck back with an equally lucky goal to level it and looked better in the final minutes of the first half.

After the break, Milan again looked a little better, more energised and created some chances. But once again, they started to tire quickly. After about an hour it was clear the tide was changing. Nani had been poor, so Valencia came on. He made an instant impact and set up Rooney's first goal. United were then on top for a while, scoring again and looked to be in cruise control. With a bit more luck we could've scored again, but just before the 90 minutes were up, Rafael steps out of position and frees the space for Ronaldinho. That was a bit naive, showing lack of experience.. But Milan did at least deserve an extra goal if you look at the whole game. Maybe more but you need to finish your chances, something Milan failed to do and United didn't. Ergo, United win, and I doubt we'll lose the tie overall now.

we forgot, moneybags real madrid lost

They really played poor against Lyon. Almost every ball that was passed, was either weak or risky and either way the ball came back to Lyon. So they have to play a lot better then this in their Santiage Bernabeu

Nice way for Man Utd to break the curse of San Siro...

I think that they'll put up a much better perfomance at Old Trafford than what they put up last night... and I'm sure that they can at least hold Milan 1-1 or something.

Nani sucked last night. His delivery was poor. Valencia on the other hand was excellent.

nani back to normal then? lol
Milan need to win by 2 goals at OT, with ferdinand and vidic back and rooney on scoring from, i cant see it

unoo, who do you support?

I support Aston Villa and Milan.

I usually support Man Utd in the Champions League as my secondary support goes to all of the English clubs but Milan are my favourites in that competition unless Villa ever qualify. To be honest I don't actually want Rooney injured I just want them to lose against Villa and Milan. :toast:

Also, to all those relying on the return of Vidic to steady the ship, I doubt he'll be fully fit by the second leg due to lack of games; SAF is also losing his patience with him as he rules himself out of games due to a 'more mental then physical' problem, and we all know what happens when someone stays injured for too long under SAF (Stam, Beckham).

Porto 2-1 Arsenal

:toast:Fabianski:toast:

Interesting game tonight. I was pleased to see Campbell score and have a somewhat decent game on his first game against good opposition for a while. C'mon late World Cup run. Arsenal can probably still get through the tie as they were comfortable for a lot of the time today, however, they look lacklustre and short of ideas when going forward, looking most threatening at corners, which isn't like them. Martin Hansson shows that he still likes to be the star of the show with the denied penalty and getting the ball to Porto for a quick free kick (Remeber Henry's handball and Gerrard's 95th minute penalty?) They did have some good play though, like when Rosicky got around a Porto centre-back and in the last minute with Fabregas just about being denied a tap-in so there is promise for them in London. That said, ESPN Football Funnies will have a field day with this one.

The referee just gave the win to Porto. That free kick was 1) never a free kick and 2) should never been taken that fast. Fabianski did terrible, but the second goals wasn't his fault, the first one was. Arsenal fans have been furious about the fact that Wenger didn't bring a replacement for Van Persie, but I think that after this match, they will all agree that a new goalkeeper wil be the next priority

It was a "pass back", no two ways about it.

To let it be a pass back, Campbell had to touch the ball doesn't he?

campbell did touch the ball

however, I seriously think that was a cheap ass goal, the ref has a whistle, he didn't use it, some refs would card the player for kicking the ball before the ref allowed it and some refs would do what he did, but of course, he already has a reputation for drowning ireland's national team, i really hope he gets into trouble for porto's second goal.

this reminds me of a manchester united free kick that was scored while the goalkeeper was setting and giving instructions to the wall, man u. player just took the advantage and shot on goal, poor goalkeeper wasn't in place so he didn't have a chance, ref could've nulled the goal because he didn't use his whistle, but he was an asshole and allowed it. (actually im pretty sure it was man u. but i could be wrong)

SERIOUSLY WHY DO REFS HAVE WHISTLES IF THEY AREN'T GOING TO USE THEM

(I may be portuguese, but i'm not a porto fan, so im impartial here)

The first Porto goal, yeah, it wasn't a free kick.
But IMO, the second one was legal. It's an indirect kick taken fast. Nothing illegal about it.
It WAS also Fabianski's fault. As a player, he should know he should be ready to react in case the opposing team does what it did, instead of protesting to the referee in the middle of the play. That was comical.
