Pokemon VGC 2010 DATES / rules announced for the US!

As a competitive TCG player who has twice attended Worlds, I can shed some light on a few things. You don't have to have an invite to play in Nationals; just like in the VGC, anyone can play, although there is a limit to the number of players, albeit a very high one. You can, however, get an invite and a paid trip by winning a Regional Championship (they're all held on April 17th). If I'm lucky enough to get there for VGC, I'm considering registering for the TCG and then immediately dropping just so I can get the promo card (Nationals promo cards are always rare and expensive).

As for Worlds, the last chance qualifier (a.k.a. the "grinder") has in the past been held on the Friday before the main event, so unless you got your prize packs early, the tournament you were in can't have been the LCQ. It is also VERY competitive, and the people who have made it through in the past have had a history of doing well in Worlds. In 2008, we had several hundred people in Masters (the 15+ age group; Juniors is 10- and Seniors is 11-14) and only the top 12 were given a spot. They do have open league play on Saturday/Sunday, and sometimes some side events as well, so that is most likely what you all participated in.

Wait, is there an age limit? I know anyone below 10 or 12 is in juniors, and everyone above is in seniors, but to you have to be younger than a certain age to attend? I'm a few years older than 14 (avoiding giving out personal info)....

For TCG, there are three age groups, organized by birth years:
Masters: 1995 or older
Seniors: 1995-1998
Juniors: 1998 or later
*I BELIEVE these are the age groups, but since they change every year, I'm not 100% positive.

For the VGC, there have been only 2 age groups. I'm not sure if they're done by birth years or not. I haven't participated the last 2 years, but if it's the same as it was in JAA, Seniors is 13 or older and Juniors is 12 or older.

On the main site for VGC stuff, it says:

Players compete in one of two age divisions based on their date of birth.
  • Junior Division: Born in 1998 or later
  • Senior Division: Born in 1997 or earlier

Thx for the info, but I meant for the VGC. I would enter the TCG if I had the "luck of the draw" as I call it. I never, never get the right card at the right time, no matter what I do. I have made pretty good decks before.....but I just never get a good card when I need it. My biggest issue was getting 1 unevolved Pokemon on turn 1, then getting nothing but Evos, trainers, stadiums, and energies for about 3 turns (which is usually when my Pokemon is Knocked out).

Alright...thx. I guess that means no.

lol Ninja'd. Anyways, How's everyone elses teams coming along? I've been testing around with some anti metagame tactics, and I've finally struck a solid combo. ^_^

I've made 4.

1) Rain/goodstuffs
2) TR/Rain
3) TR/Hail
4) Hail/goodstuffs

I might make a sun team, but idk, I don't really see a need.

I think I have a solid team....But because Shoddy doesn't have doubles, I have to actually make the team before I can test it. That's problematic because the slightest change, such as a different EV yield in 1 stat or nature change can take plenty of time to fix and retest.

Do you guys just test on Wifi or PBR? I'm not sure where to test my team other than Wifi, and PBR doesnt have many good people during the day :x

I think I've come along with a good idea. I scrapped my rain team idea because it really is predictable... hope my new team isn't :P

I do not test online with my VGC teams. All my VGC practice is done with my teammates. That way, strategy's do not get out, and are able to help each other play better.

lol. Everyone is expecting rain teams. When it was discovered ubers were allowed...Everyone was in uproar. Rain has become the first thing to be prepared for no matter what team you run, and just about all forms of rain are prepared for.

NBS helps you make sure your strategies work. As far as a realistic simulation of a battle, it's a far cry from that. But if you want to know if a combo might actually be viable in the VGC, you might want to hit up NBS a few times.

And yet, Rain teams still win many Regionals in Japan. It's just that hard to stop.

Yes, but it's still pretty predictable. Palkia and Kyogre are always the ubers. It's always a special sweeper w/ Surf 80% of the time (Water Spout is used less, now, because Grass Knot is just that good). Toxi and Ludi are almost always the last two. Toxi always has Dry Skin and either Cross Chop or Low Kick, as well as Sucker Punch. Ludi always has Swift Swim as well as Surf and 50% of the time, Grass Knot. The only other Rain Pokemon that are used in the VGC are Quagsire, Zapdos, and Kingdra (although uncommon because of Palkia).

The problem is, while predictable and unoriginal, it's still very affective.

Haban Berry and Lustrous Orb. There is rarely any point of using any other item, since (chances are) it won't work as well as theses 2. lol

Yes, that's more or less how Rain is this year. Even more common is the Ludicolo-Kyogre-Metagross-Palkia variant. With Shuca on Metagross and Grass Knot on Ludicolo, it gives opposing Palkia lots of trouble. The thing that irritates me about Rain is not that it's too strong, though. You can design anti-Rain teams if you really put your mind to it. The issue I with that is it usually leaves your team very vulnerable to everything else but Rain.

Can I get a DIRECT link to downloading that? I always try but I get an internal server error, whatever the hell that means, or a 404 error....

That is the link I used to install NBS on my secondary computer this morning.

Yeah we played, but not with cards from those packs, I borrowed a deck and ipl used a theme deck. Since then I've been playing all season (brs, cities, states, etc) and I'm really hoping they let us play both at nats.
