I just need to know what to get in terms of a R4 or DS cart type of thing right now, because I can't find out what I'm really supposed to get. Oh and I would like to know where I can get it
What kind of Nintendo DS do you have right now? Is it the regular DS or is it the DSi? You can find out which kind of action replay you need through Google search. Just type something along the line of "DS action replay" or "DSi action replay." The older version of DS AR doesn't work with the DSi though, so you'll have to get the DSi version.

AR, what? I didn't know I needed an Action Replay but okay, either way I have a DSi so I figured I would use the SD card slot or something

If you have a DSi you will need an Action Replay DSi specifically, as PokeSav exports everything as an XML file containing the code which you put onto the code manager.

Are the IVs of the legendary dogs determined when you release them? If so, can you release them again?

Yes, except for Suicune. Its IVs are determined when you first battle it since it's a stationary legengary. If you defeat them and beat the Elite Four, Entei and Raikou will start roaming Johto again and Suicune will be in the Burned Tower. I'm pretty sure you can regenerate all stationary Pokemon like this.

technician damage calculation

i still cant figure out the answer to a debate me and my friend are having. We are trying to determine the power of moves on a scizor with technician, that also gets a type boost, and has a life orb equipped. If your scizor uses aerial ace with a power of 60 how would all the damage boosts be added up? we are confused on if:
Life orb adds the 30% damage boost to aerial ace before technician:
Does technician double the power before or after type boost.

Early thanks to those that know the answer.

Technician boosts the power of your attack by 1.5x if its original base power is 60 or less. Aerial Ace's base power is 60, so it gets the Technician boost, regardless of when you want to factor that boost into the equation. Its final base damage would be:

60 (base damage) * 1.5 (Technician) * 1.3 (Life Orb) = 117

You mentioned the "type boost" for Aerial Ace; if you're referring to STAB (same type attack bonus), remember that Scyther loses its Flying-type when it evolves, so Aerial Ace does NOT get STAB on Scizor (but it does on Scyther).

Technician boosts the power of moves with 60 or less BASE POWER, regardless of STAB, stat changes, or held item boost.

And aerial ace doesn't get STAB on Scizor anyway.

Okay well I looked up the DSi AR and 20 bucks is pretty good but apparently a lot of people suffer from corrupted DSis from using this AR, any thoughts on that?

I dunno I always use a regular AR with a regular DS lol. Don't you have a normal DS/Lite?
You could look at R4-esque things for the DSi, there are some floating about. Google is your friend.

I'm trying to breed a Staryu with 31 IVs in Speed and Sp. Atk. So far I have a Modest Staryu with 31 IVs in Speed which is being breed with a Modest Ditto with 31 IVs in Sp. Atk and I must of hatched about 50 eggs over an hour and a half without any luck on getting a modest nature. :\

Am I just incredibly unlucky?

Yes, you're just incredibly unlucky if you have the Ditto holding an everstone. I know I once had the same issue occuring.

Look at the bright side, the next 50 eggs will have a modest nature!

Well, neither is holding an Everstone as both parents need to relevant power items to pass down the Speed and Sp.Atk IVs. I'll try again later. If only Pokemon could hold more then 1 item...

Is it legal to use the max IVs AR code for competitive battling? I'm just looking to save some time because the breeding is kicking my ass. For that matter, is it also legal to use the move mod for version-exclusive moves (I.e. teaching Dragonite ExtremeSpeed even though I have Platinum)? I don't see why not since I'm not teaching it moves outside of its movepool like Close Combat or anything. I really want WishBliss too but have no other means of getting it.

One final question: does location of caught pokes matter? I ask this because it would be much easier for me to use the wild pokemon mod to catch Jirachi, etc. than to go through all the trouble of 3rd gen events.

I don't see why these wouldn't all be legit since it's not hacking the game in any way, it's just saving a hell of a lot of time. Either way, I thought I should ask. I'd appreciate if someone could help me on this one.

Thanks! :)

Well if neither is holding an Everstone then your chances of getting a Modest nature are 1/25, which means you should only be expecting around 2 Modest eggs out of 50, which means it isn't that far-fetched that you haven't gotten any. I don't know the specifics, but I think the 50% chance for passing the nature if you give Ditto the Everstone is better than giving it a Power Lens, since I think some people were saying 2 Power items don't guarantee both IVs are passed.

In both cases they would be considered "legal hacks". Allowed for battling if and only if you tell the other person you're using legal hacks. If you're hacking on egg moves make sure the Pokemon's in a regular Poke Ball!
Such Pokemon should not be offered for trade on the WiFi forum, and must not be passed off as legitimate.

I really want WishBliss too but have no other means of getting it.
Some people apply "Event Clause" when legal hacks are used - event moves aren't allowed. It's a person-by-person thing. I'd suggest having either a different Blissey or an alternative Wishing Wall available for when people won't let you use WishBliss. Clefable can to some extent perform the same role as WishBliss, though it lacks the insane HP of Blissey.

One final question: does location of caught pokes matter?
Since it is invisible to your opponent in battle, no for battling.

Thanks a ton cantab. I don't want to be passed off as a cheater or hacker, but I've done it the legit way before and it drove
me insane. I will probably use these legal hacks, but I don't plan on being a dick or over the top with them; they are simply used to save time and accelerate my competitive battling fun.

And as for Bliss, better safe than sorry; I'll probably use one but train a Cleric backup in case of the event clause.

Cheers, you guys are the best.

Have you checked the IVs of any of the non-Modest babies? If you're not getting both IVs you want, it might be worth it to give the Ditto an Everstone and just hope its IV gets passed.

Also, question about EV training. According to psypokes.com, the Exp Share transmits only the base EVs earned by the front battler to the Exp Share holder. So for example, if I had my Espeon with Pokerus fight a Psyduck while my Riolu held an Exp Share, Espeon would gain 2 SpA EVs and Riolu would gain only 1. What if Espeon did not have Pokerus but Riolu did? Would Riolu gain twice the base EVs translated (2 SpA, while non-Pokerus'd Espeon would gain 1), or would Pokerus not have an effect in this situation (leaving Riolu to gain only 1 EV)?

Everything you said before the strikeout is correct. Exp. Share ignores Macho Brace/Power item and Pokérus bonuses of the battling Pokémon when transferring EVs. And if the Exp. Share Pokémon has Pokérus, that multiplier does apply.

If the first case didn't hold, you could have 8x EVs (if both had Pokérus and the battling Pokémon had Macho Brace).

So, I think I made a biiiiig mistake. It's my first time properly EV training, and I'm trying to get 124 SpA on my lovely new Beldum. I got him at level 1 and didn't know how else to infect him with Pokerus other than by battling with him and the Pokerus carrier in my party. I battled Psyducks and killed 9 of them before Pokerus.

Now, Psyducks give 2 SpA EVs and Golducks give 4. I didn't think about it at the time, but this means I can only wind up with an odd EV total in that stat, right? Since I can only gain them in groups of 2 or 4? Even the EV-reducing berries take away an even number of EVs.

He has 121 EVs right now and I can't think of any possible way to get him the last 3 without going over. If I finish off the rest of his training (252 Atk and 132 Spe), can I then kill 2 more Psyducks and only gain 3 EVs from it? Or should I just reset the game now since I haven't saved since I started EVing? *cringe*
