I don't remember Hoenn having that many different climates. There was a desert, some islands, a volcano..nothing too out of the ordinary. Now, Sinnoh's a different story.

IT'S NOT COMING OUT FOR THE 3DS. IT IS COMING OUT FOR THE DS. DEAL WITH IT.

Hoenn had a Volcano, a graveyard, a desert, a rainforest, a few islands, and a lot of water. Pretty large variaty.

The desert kind of didn't make sense in Hoenn, especially its proximity to much wetter routes without a particularly prominent mountain separating them.

The volcanism makes sense. Hoenn has a trio of volcanoes - Sootopolis and Mt Pyre are extinct, while Mt Chimney is active. (OK, Mt Pyre is never explicitly stated to be a volcano, but both the name and location suggest it may be one). They should have made it so you couldn't Fly into Lavaridge or Fallarbor Town though ;-)

Well considering towards the North-West area of Hoenn had the active volcano, it made a bit more sense that the desert was right next to it. Less humidity. Once you went farther out, though, it got closer to the coast, and therefor got more humid and wet. The region certainly made sense.

And not flying into those towns would have been annoying :P

So my last post being deleted because I [oh my god brace yourself] dropped an f-bomb [If we should not use it why isn't it censored? I dunno lol!] I'll have to repeat myself:
Fist, I lol at you for complaining about realism in Pokemon.

Second, I'd rather have a diverse climate and varied locations than HURRR CITIES EVERYWHERE.

If you want realism go play one of these brown FPS' that are all the rage, in the meantime I'll enjoy my volcanos, deserts, rainy forests and whatnot.

Finally, I really don't see what's so unrealistic about Hoenn but there you have it.

Just for clarification, airplanes cannot fly near an active volcano due to the smoke damaging the engines. A little boy/girl flying on the back of a bird should have no problem flying in smoke. Health is not a concern for the game designers for they had no problem setting an entire town in ashes after all. NPCs treat ash as they would for snow.

As for the terrain, Hoenn had a nice mix. Sinnoh had a forest, swamp, a large cave, snow, volcano, a few water routes, and 3 lakes.

My question is what regions of Japan do you think they could use?
And just for fun, what geographical region on the planet Earth would you like to see in Pokemon?

hands down amazon rainforest

I'm happy with the types aswell, but if they HAD to create a new one, I'd go with Sound. They already have a myriad of sound based attacks, and Pokemon like jiggly and whismur (maybe chimecho)could break out of their boring mold with a normal/sound typing.

Hoenn did have a large variety, yes, but it was horrendously unrealistic and just plain retarded because none of it made sense.

And there will be absolutely no sound type because it would make 0 impact on the game.

I'd like to see Alaska made into a region cause - face it - Alaska is just win.

Alaska's got mountains, forests, swamps, caves, lakes... everything that a Pokemon game would need.

Thats weird, considering Hoenn is based on an area of Japan, just spinned around

Abrasion at high speeds is a problem as well, sandblasting the windscreen. Certain Pokedex entries specify Pokemon flying at high speed (Pidgeot does Mach 2, Dragonite goes round the world in 16 hours which is also about Mach 2 if the world is the size of Earth). Of course, they may not do those speeds when carrying a trainer.

In any case, it was just a topical joke. Moving on...

Alaska is actually somewhat plausible as a region. The Battle Zone is supposed to be based on the Sakhalin region of Russia (which I believe is disputed with Japan). That's not far from Alaska. But they've 'done' snow in DPPt, so I don't think we'll see it in BW.

Why doesn't it make sense? To the East and West of Hoenn, there are big oceans. Water vapor from these oceans moves inland until it comes up against the mountain range in the center of the island, which Meteor Falls, Mount Chimney, and Rusturf Tunnel are all a part of. As it rises over these mountains, it cools and begins to fall as precipitation - hence why the areas around Fortree, Lilycove and Rustboro are so lush and verdant (especially the routes near Fortree, where it's almost constantly raining).

I think Hoenn was actually the most accurate of all the games when it came to making a believable climate (I also think Sinnoh was the worst, but that's a whole different topic). OK, the desert was a bit unrealistic because it was so small, but Gamefreak has limited space to work with. Would you have liked Hoenn better if the desert took up the whole Northern half of the map?

I'd love to see a Pokemon game with one dominating overworld environment - a cold world, a world that's mostly jungle, etc. But I don't think we're going to get that, because GF's target audience of eight year olds has a short attention span and would get bored of the repetition. Plus, it might not make sense with the Gym system, depending on what types they chose.

Groudon and Kyogre had a pretty obvious impact on the climates of Hoenn. I don't believe Game Freak decided to just throw in all they could. In fact a lot of it makes sense even without the legendary interference given its tropical nature.

Johto is the worst region btw.

lol Alaska region.

They kept sandstorms from Hoenn. Why shouldn't they keep the snow from Sinnoh?
Sorry, I should clarify. I don't mean the weather effect. I mean how a large part of the Sinnoh area is cold, especially in Platinum where snow is found as far south as Lake...Verity (?). Though maybe the area's not so big as I thought it was.

You forgot the most important thing, that the population of Alaska is near the size of the population of an average pokemon game.

I reckon they should make better trainers, and even a hard/expert mode, where the gym leader actually have more than 0 EVs, that makes it more harder.

Get Cynthia's Garchomp, MAX Attk and Speed, then you shall play strategically, instead of speeding through, spamming one move.

@vonFiedler: I think you should avoid calling Stealth Rock an "inconsistency". If GameFreak never experimented with new ideas, Pokemon would be a lot less interesting.

But it is inconsistent by merit of being the only form of indirect and fixed damage that can be supereffective. They could have easily looked at any other form of indirect damage and seen the fatal flaw in this line of reasoning.

Toxic would kill a Grass Pokemon in 4 turns.

Will-O-Wisp would kill any Bug, Grass, Ice, or Steel Pokemon in 4 turns. It'd kill Scizor in 2 turns.

Hell, Leech Seed would kill Hippowdon, Mamoswine, Starmie, Suicune, Tyranitar, and Vaporeon in 4 turns, all while healing you for an absurd amount. It would kill Swampert in 2 turns.

Seismic Toss would deal 200 damage to any Dark, Ice, Normal, Rock, or Steel type. Blissey would fucking love that.

It's just plain idiotic.

that would basically ruin stall or any other team that relies on entry hazards, SR is useful, leads kill each other to use it etc. but it is just a move, it can´t win the game for you so yeah.... it oculd use nerfing but i don´t think people should whine about it

Oh heavens, but if the current metagame is ruined, we might have to develop a NEW metagame in Gen 5. You say that, and you're only right if that is, literally, the ONLY thing they change. But it's not going to be.

Hoenn's variety is attributed that the entire region was actually rotated 90 degrees to fit on the map. It actually supposed to be vertical with soothopolis facing the bottom, and with volcanos and various TALL ROCKY THINGS a desert as plausible as well.

I guess the rainforest got the rain from the desert...

It kinda works out.
