The Moped Thead :)

I totaled my car this weekend, which has given me a chance to fulfill one of my childhood dreams; getting a moped. I originally thought about looking for a car, but with college around the corner I see no need for one. At IU they don't even allow freshmen to have cars. Not only that, but the farthest I go on a regular basis from my house is about 20 minutes. My place of work is about 10 mins away from home. Thus, I feel as if by investing in a moped, I could save money that would be spent on buying a car, spend less on gas, and take it to college. The only problem is, I know nothing about them other than what I have seen on Fooly Cooly! So, does anyone on Smogon own a moped? What brands to you advise? Should I get new or used? What is a decent price for a moped? And, mainly, would you advise this mode of transportation?

It was about 10 o'clock at night and I was just pulling out of my edition when someone going about 80 miles an hour (who I admittedly did pull out in front slightly) slammed on his brakes from a pretty far distance (30 yards?) and slid into me. After hitting my car he continued attempting to stop for about twenty or thirty yards until he eventually slid into someones drive. My car, being fairly worthless but amazing nonetheless, has two broken windows, a smashed back, and misaligned wheels. His car has an engine that is now fucked. The only part that I'm angry about is how he neglected to mention his speeding and blamed the entire accident on me. Normally, I would have pulled out in front of someone a little bit and they would have slowed down, and everything would have been fine, but this time I was not quite so lucky :(

But back to mopeds :P

No worries, I am fine. My hand is a bit cut up from glass that was on the seat but other than that I'm great :)

I'm thinking about getting this one, even though it may require a road trip. The inclusion of a bitch seat makes it worth it though.

definitely with the sidecar, cause there's space to put your stuff and the bitch seat is hilarious and awesome
i dont know much about motorcycles either, im just starting to look into them
 
I read the title as mopped instead of moped

I was disappointed

I've never rode a moped but they seem pretty cool. Just make sure you get a baret (no idea on spelling) and a long scarf.
 
I have only one thing to say. You totalled your car. Now imagine if that crash had happened when you were on a moped. Are you comfortable with the risk?
 
yeah IU would be a really cool place to have a moped. i visit there frequently as i have a lot of friends that went there. very fine campus

Oh my god, I know nothing about mopeds, but you NEED to get that. I will drive down to Iowa (assuming that is what you mean by IU, unless you meant Indiana, in which case I will just go there to visit my cousin who attends school there) just to ride in the sidecar =D
 
i was going to get one but then i realized how you can't like give 10 people rides in them and how they suck in the rain. Also i know some many people that have crashed their mopeds, now i'm positive i would crash one even if i tried to ride one.

if my mum wasnt giving me her corolla i would get one

the corolla needs a new transmission (approx $2000)
would a moped be worth it for only using 3 seasons out of the year and in sunny weather, but with the savings in gas in not sure whether to repair or become a badass

Curiosity speaking here: any particular reason you're interested in a moped, instead of a full-on motorcycle?
 
surgo if that as reffered to me, you dont need a bike license, gas mileage, and cost to buy one,and being a badass is the main reason for a moped over a motorbike
