The MMA/Boxing/Fighting Sports Thread

The Aldo/Faber fight was pretty badass... Faber's got heart but he was outclassed on the feet. Which makes me wonder why didn't he try using his wrestling at all.

Manny/Brown I didn't know what to expect honestly. I thought Brown was really good?

Brown is good (or perhaps, was, age may be a factor, who knows), but yeah, like I say, Manny is basically Serra to his GSP in that fight -- same level of crazy stupid upset. Manny is probably top 5 on most rankings with that win.

Aldo was making Mike Brown's TDs look stupid in their fight -- maybe Faber didn't think he could get Aldo down, given Brown was muscling Faber around in both their fights. This being said, maybe he just pulled a Sean Sherk.

Who cares about Koscheck/Daley, either of them are just more fodder for GSP to beat on later.

The real story will hopefully be seeing Shogun rightfully gaining the LHW title this time after that god-awful decision in 104. Don't really care for any other fights on that card...

You do realize Kos took GSP down in their first fight, right?

Kos is pretty much the only WW with a shot at beating GSP outside of a surprise punch (Serra style) -- I don't see anyone subbing Georges any time soon, so anyone to beat him has to be a solid wrestler who can strike decently (i.e. not like Fitch -- though Fitch is decent when he remembers to move his head).

And yes, Shogun takes the rematch.

Cote vs Belcher should be a fun fight too.

Really? Koscheck and Daley is possibly one of the most exiting matches in the Weltherweight division of the year. Daley is coming off as "1 punch knockout power" fighter and Josh Koscheck...do I need to say more of this dude? Josh Koscheck has more than enough reputation to be called just a ordinary fighter in the weltherweight division.

On the Machida vs Shogun fight...both my heart and brain say Shogun.

Jeremy Stephens looks like a potential fighter, but Stout looked good in his last fight (can't remember if it was Lauzon or Wiman) so this is also a fight I wanna see.

Koscheck did take GSP down in their first fight...once. He DOES have the natural ability and wrestling background to do it again though, assuming he actually decides to keep working on his wrestling ability when/if he gets a crack at GSP. Even then, GSP is so good, if their wrestling is a push, I have to give the striking advantage to him...

I'm picking Machida for this fight. Shogun fought exactly the right way last time, but if he actually goes back to his agressive style like he claims I see Machida out-pointing him, at the very least.

I've got Shogun by either 3rd or 4th round TKO. Machida's going to do the same shit in every fight he's ever going to be in; He'l fight defensively and take the fight to the ground if he feels that he has an advantage there. He can lean his head back and run away all he'd like, Shogun's going after his legs, again. Except this time I believe he'll become more and more aggressive as the fight goes on and as Machida starts wearing down and starts becoming less and less capable of KOing Shogun.

The way I see it Shogun will have the better cardio and will push the pace of the fight. Again. The only way Machida's going to win this is if he KOes Shogun early and with Machida's track record and style of fighting, along with Shogun's record against other strikers, I just don't see it happening.

Shogun's going to sit back and work on Machida's legs in the first. I wouldn't be surprised if he lost that round as well since that's when Machida has the greatest opportunity to catch him so he'll most likely sit back. The second round I expect him to start pressing and clinching more with Machida. In the 3rd or 4th I believe Shogun will finish Machida as he presses and pushes Machida's cardio. Eventually he's going to catch Machida as hes sitting on the cage and finish on the ground.

Shogun's the better fighter. I can't wait till he's recognized as the best LHW in the world again.

Kos will TKO Daley either in the first or second. I'll go with second. Daley ain't shit, he's just another puncher with power and his wrestling and ground ability, or lack therof, will show in this fight. Kos is going to expose him.

Cote vs Belcher should be a war. I think Belcher will win but Cote's a tough guy and he's going to make it a battle. Belcher by UD.

Forrest just pulled out from UFC 114 due to a shoulder injury, so now Lil Nog has no opponent. I'd like see a hyped fighter against Lil Nog...Jon Jones anybody?

Rampage KOs Rashad btw

At the last second? I can't see Jon Jones doing it, they're just probably gonna grab someone no one cares about to let Lil Nog beat on for a bit until he can face Griffin. But that does suck, the main reason I was looking forward to 114 was Griffin/Nog, not the overhyped Jackson/Evans bout (even if it'll end up being a decent watch anyways).

Didn't even notice Kimbo is on the 113 bout, facing another TUF10 alumni in Mitrione. Hope Mitrione won't be lame enough to throw leg kicks for 3 rounds like Alexander was...seriously, that was some boring shit there.

And finally, as if it needs to be said anymore, Machida is going FUCKING DOWN!

Wow Huerta...I was really looking forward to Huerta vs Alvarez..ugh

I'm convinced that Eddie's a better fighter than Aoki and will win if they meet again.

Those two heavyweights that fought were pathetic, quite frankly. Neither had much of a gameplan and neither of the two showed any heart...the fat guy played 'wait till the bell rings' and the other guy didn't do shit knowing he was losing...He should have clinched and grappled with the larger guy in the second and third. He'd wear him out and win but noooo...

I've gotten to the point where I only watch fights with guys that not only have talent but heart too. At least I saw Neer put to sleep which put a big grin on my face! :)

Well, looks like Kos/Daley winner not only gets a shot at GSP, but to coach on TUF12 as well opposite him, should be kinda fun in that regard. Still waiting for Fitch to get another shot personally...

Also, I hate how fucking Sherdog must have sold out to every fucking spam advertiser out there, can't even finish an article without a stupid add for SSFIV or UFC Undisputed 2 popping up on another page (not to mention I got a trojan from one of their videos before). Anyone else know a decent mma site for news?

I have Machida beating Shogun, better make some space on the Machida bandwagon for all the ones that jumped on around the time he knocked out Thiago Silva then jumped off after the Shogun fight, they will soon be back on tomorrow.

I can't wait to see GSP coach! Thats going to be amazing!

As for Machida/Shogun, the brain says Machida while the heart says Shogun. PRIDE Shogun COMEBACK! YEAH!

Yeah, the old PRIDE form Shogun would have owned Machida way back...

Not to say he won't tonight, but it would have been a lot more interesting under the Pride rules...

Btw, few of us will be talking in #smogon while watching so drop in if any of you are watching!

FUCK YEAH! SHOGUN! And by KO R1, even I wouldn't have bet that on happening...

Now of course, the next question...who's in line for Shogun now? I'm guessing between the likely Evans, Jackson, or Griffin...actually, would have been fun to see a Shogun/Griffin rematch, as Shogun what, gassed or had a bad cut or something he said afterward?

Looks like it'll be GSP/Kos next round for WW, with a TUF12 coaching gig inbetween. Kimbo...well, shame he got tired so quickly, maybe he should consider a drop down to 205, as any heavier opponent than Mitrione will definitely give him more problems than he can handle.

Daley's been cut. So has Kimbo supposedly. When asked on his take to Daley being cut, Koscheck said "Well, looks like I won twice then."

Shogun/Anderson may just happen! Shogun/Griffin won't happen lol. Griffin pulled out vs Lil Nog. I hope its Anderson while they make Rampage/Rashad fight vs Lil Nog to figure out a #1 contender!

lol, that's if they even let Silva move up, let alone challenge Shogun for the LW crown after that Maia fight...

Besides, Forrest was injured I thought and that's why he pulled out against Lil Nog? Besides, Shogun beat Lil Nog way back in Pride didn't he? Then again, he also beat Rampage way back as well.

Ima go ahead and stroke my ego a bit here hehe.

The Shogun Era has begun and the UFC will have a dominant LHW champ once again. He's going to have some interesting challenges with Rampage, Evans, Nog, Machida again (possibly), perhaps Jon Jones one day, and the biggest in Anderson Silva.

The only one I see posing a major threat is Silva but Shogun can handle Silva I'm pretty sure.

Anyhow, my take on some of the fights:

-Shogun pressured Machida and sure enough Machida crumbled. I'm pretty amazed by the kind of power Shogun consistently has in his strikes with his not very muscular physique. The Machida puzzle has been solved, boys.

Finally people can realize who the true best 205er on the planet is and give Shogun the props he deserves. He's never been dominated in his entire life and his win/loss ratio hardly explains how fucking good this guy is. His losses consist of: controversial stoppage to Babalu, broken arm/shoulder vs Coleman, RNC to Griffin with fucked up knees and needing surgery, badly, and the whole Machida scenario. This guy's never been truely beaten, in my opinion.

I was probably the loudest person at BWW tonight and couldn't be any happier with the result. Looks like my boys Page and Shogun will get to fight again once Page destroys Evans. :)

The Kos/Daley fight went as predicted; the wrestler beat the striker. Nice show of class by Daley after the fight lol.

Kimbo fight went as predicted. The guy has awful knees and was just beaten down by a bigger, better fighter.

Only misprediction I had was with Stout not coming through, but oh well.

Congrats to Shogun

Machida will be back and will get another shot i still think he and shogun are miles ahead of the rest of the lhw division. His shitty cardio showed up again though he gassed after the first takedown.

Rampage/Evans winner vs Shogun must be next, so most likely Rampage.

I am figuring Machida gets Rampage if he loses or maybe Evans again then another title shot .

Anderson Silva will beat Sonnen then if Machida loses a rematch he has no excuse to step up to 205. Unless a motivated Rampage shows up Shogun should still have the title and UFC will play up this whole Anderson getting revenge for his training partner and best friend Machida. Maybe we will see a motivated Silva for once.

I almost cried when I saw Shogun win, finally, all this bullshit hype about Machida is over. Alan Belcher piledriver was beast. Paul Daley got dominated, good call on on Dana White cutting him, seriously, get that shit out of here.

There's no bullshit about Machida dude.

The guy will always hang around the top 3 or 4 as long as he continues to fight. Only guy that really threatens him at 205 besides Shogun is Rampage. Lil Nog and Silva won't fight him.

Lil Nog and Machida have said they would fight one another, under the right circumstances (I'm assuming for the title, or #1 contender). Machida and Anderson won't fight, period.

I really didn't see that KO coming last night, but it was a perfect performance by Shogun. His striking was on target, his BJJ was great. Just awesome all around. I don't know who else at 205 is going to beat Machida though. With what happened between Machida and Evans, I think these two guys are so far ahead of the pack at the moment that it's ridiculous. Besides Anderson Silva, who else gives Shogun a challenge right now at 205? And besides Shogun, who beats Machida?
