RMT VGC 2010 Trick Room

Dialga @ Shuca Berry
Quiet
252 SpA/ 252 Hp/ 4 Def
- Trick Room
- Dragon Pulse
- Flamethrower/ Aura Sphere
- Protect

He of course sets up Trick Room, and abuses it. Shuca Berry is to live through Earthquake from Groudon. I'm considering replacing Flamethrower with Aura Sphere to defeat other Trick Room Dialga leads; while they either do the work for me and set up or go on the offensive immediately, I fire off an attack and gain an instant advantage.

Smeargle @ Focus Sash
Jolly: Technician
252 Spe/ 252 Atk/ 4 HP
- Follow Me
- Fake Out
- Taunt
- Helping Hand

I've come to find that Smeargle is the most reliable compliment to Dialga for quite a few reasons: of course, the standard Follow Me-Trick Room strategy. Then, there's Fake Out to prevent Dark Void Smeargle from crippling my team, as well as to stop the double-Earthquake strategy. Taunt is to prevent the myriad of set-ups which include Imprison and Wobbuffet tactics, among other things. Helping Hand is to support Dialga, if Smeargle is somehow still standing.

Metagross @ Iron Ball
Brave
252 Atk/ 144 SpA/ 112 HP
- Gyro Ball
- Hammer Arm
- Grass Knot
- Rock Slide

The star sweeper of the team and counter to Iron Ball Tyranitar. After one Hammer Arm, Gyro Ball will probably top out and he outspeeds Tyranitar. Grass Knot and the given EV's OHKO 252/0 Groudon. Rock Slide is for Ho-Oh specifically, but also adds coverage and the ability to hit both opponents.

Giratina-O @ Griseous Orb
Brave
252 SpA/ 252 Atk/ 4 HP
- Shadow Force
- Shadow Sneak
- Dragon Pulse
- Earth Power

Shadow Force acts like Protect in itself, and prevents stalling out Trick Room to an extent. Shadow Sneak is if I need to go first given whatever circumstance, Dragon Pulse is for STAB and type coverage, and Earth Power is also for type coverage.

Why does your Metagross have Special Attack EVs? It has no special attacks. Did you mean SpD?

If he isn't already at level 100, and those EVs are in fact in special attack, put them in one or both of his defenses.

The evs are for the grass knot and gyro ball it learns, though I don't know if that is advisable. You should focus on attack with metagross. Try a moveset of explosion, hammer arm, rock slide/ EQ, and protect. Your team really needs to have more protects. On top of that, I dont think that you should have giratina with 252 evs in atk and s atk. You will get out sped and out bulked. No one on you team has a lum or chesto berry so if you get a sleep move done to you, you are a sitting duck.

Wow. Grass knot is special?

I was so confused why people kept putting that move on special sweepers, I thought it was kinda like putting overheat on a groudon or draco meteor on a physical salamence, a last resort move to be used in emergency situations, and now I know why. That changes quite a bit of my VGC team's strategy actually.

I feel like such a noob right now.

Steel type moves don't have much coverage. You should get rid of gyro ball. Having an iron ball just for using gyro ball is probably not the best reason to have that move. You can replace iron ball with life orb or expert belt. I agree with werecario that you should have explosion. You never know when you need it.

Ok good point. I thought it was only affected by foes speed but it is foes speed/users speed * 25 +1. Lol just looked. Anyway, I agree that steel attacks, besides bullet punch, suck, but the iron ball is there to out slow T Tar and other pokemon. I would still say that even with the boosted gyro ball, you should use bullet punch instead.

In my own experience, Dialga will rarely ever need Shuca. However, during my testing on PBR weeks before WCS, I face a lot of Hypnosis Crobat on rain teams. Lum or even Chesto is a viable option on Dialga.

I would also recommend Bullet Punch > Gyro Ball just in case, since your team lacks anything to deal with threats once TR has worn out. It still KO'es Tyranitar and Obama just fine IIRC.

I also don't think Taunt is not very viable on Smeargle because it's such an inferior Taunter with its low Speed. I would recommend Detect or Protect to help scout for explosions. Detect would help against Imprison tactics.
