You know, as cool as that would be, if Torkoal got an evolution I doubt it would be part Water. Considering Torkoal is based off of a tortoise, and not a turtle, I think that they would want to differentiate the two. I can dream.

Hey, Flannery would get a cool rematch Pokemon when POkemon TerraRuby and HydroSapphire are released. And hey, a Geyser Torkoal isn't exactly farfetched.

And why not a fossil based on a Morganocudon, A.K.A. the first or one of the first mammals? THAT would be an interesting Pokemon, let me tell you.

And I can't believe we STILL don't have a freaking T-Rex yet. Tyranitar doesn't count, and neither does Rampardos: I believe it's an entirely different species of dino.

It is a possibility, but considering that only two of which are evolutions and two are prevolutions, there isn't staggering evidence that it will happen. Maybe we'll get one of each to even it all out?

Edit: Rampardos is based off of the pachycephalosaurus, by the way.

And I would prefer a velociraptor over anything else. Dark/Rock type. It's not that hard, GF...

Actually, a spread of 170/130/65/40/65/60 with Water/Steel typing and a good movepool would make one hell of a physical tank/agility sweeper. Give it Swift Swim and Swords Dance for some serious lulz.

Also, here's an interesting bit of trivia I found while digging around on Bulbapedia: "Each generation of Pokemon has introduced Electric Pokemon with names beginning in E, M, and P.*" So for those out there wondering why Pachirisu ever saw the light of day, you have an explanation...not an excuse, but an explanation.

You do realize that they made Pachirisu before they gave it an English name, right? I really doubt Gamefreak considers what the English names of the Pokemon they create are. Also, E and M are going to be fairly starting letters for name because of things like electricity and magnetism. All of the ones that start with E have some form of the word electric starting their names, and 3 are from the same evolutionary line. So yeah, this is just a coincidence.

I'm not so sure it's a mere coincidence. Thinking about it, all the pokes that form that thing are the pure electrics (magneton at its time), and there are only two other pure elecs, Luxray line and Jolteon. You can sort of understand Jolt as an extra to that, and also Raikou as an extra, just remembered him.

Also, it helps me sleep at night that Pachirisu was created out of necessity, and not because somebody was idiotic enough to actually believe he was worth it. (Is there an explananation for Ludicolo as well?)

I agree with Wolfen. Some pokemon do keep their Japanese names, though they have an "English" version to them (which basically is the English spoken version of the Japanese spoken version). Think about Absol, or many of the others. I don't think that them having just "English" names or not will deter the tradition. I expect them to keep up the whole EMP thing for Gen 5.

Whoa, seriously? Someone's never run into a decent rain team before. Swift Swim Ludicolo gets an effective Speed stat close to 500, and a Special Attack stat high enough to 2HKO either Suicune or Vaporeon depending on the user's choice of running Grass Knot or Energy Ball. If you send in Blissey on a Ludicolo expecting to stop it in its tracks, it might just Swords Dance right in your face. Not to mention, Water/Grass is a pretty decent type combination, what with its most common weakness being Bug (because who even uses Poison or Flying moves anymore?).

Didn't mean to rant like that, but Ludicolo is one of my favorite Pokemon ever, and you just brought him down to Pachirisu's level. That...I can't let happen. >:(

EDIT: Ludicolo also has the defenses to take advantage of its Steel, Ground, and double-Water resists. You know, kinda like Crobat, who also doesn't get enough love to break the stigma of its tier placement. Ludicolo's page only has OU and Uber analyses for a reason. =)

Not to mention that Ludicolo is the only Grass/Water pokemon to date, with viable stats considering its movepool. I think that counts for something.

Pachirisu is just another rodent with useless stats (Except maybe speed and Sp.Defence), useless abilities (Competitively), and no access to Light Ball. Very original, GF.

You do realize that they made Pachirisu before they gave it an English name, right?

Yes, I do realize that. However, seeing as Pachirisu's Japanese name is (wait for it) Pachirisu, I don't see what this proves. If you wanted to disprove my theory, you should have talked about Magnemite, whose Japanese name is Coil.

Here's a thought - maybe this little EMP Easter Egg is only available in English releases because "electromagnetic pulse" is a phrase comprised of ENGLISH WORDS. I don't know much about Japanese, but I'm willing to bet that every Japanese word does not start with the same letter as its English counterpart, so the acronym would likely be different. Come on dude, use some common sense.

I really doubt Gamefreak considers what the English names of the Pokemon they create are.

I think it's likely that they do, since many of the English Pokemon names are far more witty than the Japanese ones. Take Zapdos, whose Japanese name was (and still is) "Thunder".
LOL, that should lead to some interesting gameplay..."Thunder used Thunder!"

oh Jesus Christ did I read that correctly

Have you just compared Ludicolo, the almighty Mexican dancing pineapple platypus to... a Pachirisu?

am I in an alternative dimension or what

I seem to remember one riveting battle wherein my Pachirisu beat Cynthia's Garchomp. I mean, granted it was recharging from Giga Impact and had a sliver of HP left and I Quick attacked, but it was still quite epic.

For people wanting a Fire/Grass combo, how about this: a spicy pepper plant! Could start out as a tame green pepper plant, then evolve into hotter and hotter peppers. Give it an ability that has a chance to burn on contact (don't get the pepper oil on you!).I would love to see this idea incorporated into a pokemon.

And as for new electric type combos, could an Electric/Rock pokemon be in the mix? We have already seen pictures of what appear to be electrically charged boulders. However, this type combo wouldn't be too great. I've always thought Luxray should be Electric/Dark. Electric/Ice would be interesting as a special sweeper, and Electric/Ground would make a potent physical combo (as long as electric gets a better physical move).

Sounds like an uber if you ask me. 170 is ridiculously high for a pokemon with so many good resistances and 130 Atk is scary in conjunction. Substitute beast much? Not to mention any priority moves it might get. Aquajet kind of screws anything trying to kill it with EQ or EarthPower. Bullet punch of something that defensive is just broken anyway you look at it. Scizor is only manageble because of it's 4x weakness and it's still the top in usage by a large margin.

All that proves is that Nintendo of America (or whoever makes the English names) decided to keep the name Pachirisu. There is a chance that they put this EMP Easter Egg into the English versions, but that still doesn't mean that Pachirisu was created solely because Gamefreak wanted to keep that for the English versions. Only 8 of the 12 Pokemon that make up the EMP "Easter Egg" aren't related to Pokemon that were released in previous generations, and the ones that are related to previous generations all have names that are extremely similar to the Pokemon they're related to (Pichu, Elekid, Electivire, Magnezone). There is certainly a chance that Gamefreak planned all of the English names to put this in, but I doubt they made useless Pokemon like Plusle and Pachirisu just to keep this going.

Who thinks we're going to get another electric rodent next generation? We've got Plusle/Minun in gen 3, and Pachirisu in gen 4, maybe they'll keep the tradition going.

My money's on Electric type Chinchilla.

Or Pachirisu could evolve into a flying squirrel with decent bulk and good speed. If it gets the right moves, it could be a decent support Pokemon, even on par with Uxie.

Or maybe Gamefreak will troll us, and change its excellent Sp.Def with Defense, and give it Nasty Plot (thats what happened with Slowbro/Slowking)

Im hopeing for a Water/Bug pokemon with Swift Swim or Huge Power, massive atack and speed stats, decent movepool to replace Kabutops in Rain Dance teamsas a physical sweeper.
