Damn straight. That crocodile better turn into a beast.

I think we need another shark Pokemon that isn't crap. For one of the most dangerous and fearsome animals in our world, Pokemon has only one of them and its butt was cut off.

Just with the Encourage and Earthquake Spiral/Overconfidence (whatever the the it gets called) abilities alone I'm thinking we're gonna see a much faster paced metagame with Gen 5.

Too bad Sharpedo is a freakin' boss. If anything, though, we need a hammerhead shark. Garchomp doesn't count.

Sharpedo should be a freakin' boss. The thing doesn't need to poop. I wish it was more useful.

I'd personally like to see a hammerhead, too, but if not, maybe a whale shark or a tiger shark. The whale shark could be like a good Wailord, while maybe the tiger shark could be a bit bulky, too, but with priority moves up the a.

Sharpedo is one of those pokes that don't look bad stats wise, but a little more speed and bulk would help it so much.

Sharks are badass, and Sharpedo doesn't really count (it's a torpedo, haha). Garchomp, though cool looking, isn't a shark at all. I'd love a Shark, either strongly physical or special.

I really do hope there are new defensive threats or new defensive abilities, though. Although I like the metagame as it is now, I feel like it's borderline way too heavy offense-oriented. Not that that's bad, but I'd like to keep options like stall still relatively viable.

Damn, now the ugliest fire type since Heatran happens to have an interesting ability that gets my attention... Oh well at least I hope it gets decent attacking stats and speed so that the ability doesn't go to waste, though I still hope it doesn't end up being another Fire/Fighting type just to push Blaziken to NU and Ape to UU ^^.

I still don't know EXACTLY what Encourage does, even with the information on Serebii... is "secondary effects" EVERYTHING that isn't damage? Like stat drops, stat increases, status effects, etc.? If so, that's surprisingly fitting for a Fire-type since the vast majority of Fire attacks have a chance at inflicting a Burn as a "secondary effect" as well as Overheat, which does a stat drop. "Secondary effect" will probably only mean status effects, since being able to ignore stat drops in attacks like Overheat or Superpower or Close Combat or whatever would be awful mean, even moreso because it drops the secondary effects for an attack boost. FFFFFF

Sounds cool, though!

Yeah, I think it includes literally everything that isn't damage. So, for example, Close Combat would not have a reduction in defenses when used, nor would Double-Edge or Flare Blitz have recoil.

I think it comes down to what the move itself outlines as secondary. If the move itself is defined as having a stat reduction or a status inflictor, then those would be negated.

Well, I think recoil would still happen, I don't feel that that's a "secondary effect" and it's still technically also "causing damage" from the attack. But who knows. That's getting really technical, so we probably won't know EXACTLY how it works until the game comes out...!

Highly doubt it would be pushing infernape to uu no matter how good it turns out to be

Yeah, there's always the possibilty of pokemon being reduced in usage, but Nape probably wouldn't drop a tier because of this bad boy.

To me, it sounds very different than Nape. I agree though, I do NOT want another Fire Fighting, much less a primate again.

Recoil tends to be defined as a secondary effect, so much so that moves with recoil mention it in their descriptions.

I'm sorry... These don't even look like pokemon anymore. Even the 4th gen pokes look orginal.... This doesn't seem like a pokemon game IMO.

It also means that if it turns out to be a defensive pokemon, it's essentially useless (no healing moves, no toxic, no spikes, etc.). Here's hoping GF decides to make it an offensive powerhouse.

It wouldn't be useless as toxic and healing moves aren't secondary effects. Therefore they are not cancelled out.

However, I do think it would be better as an offensive pokemon.

Well, you better believe it :P

Whenever I see new Pokes, I say the same thing. But then you gotta realize that there's no definition of what a Pokemon looks like, and Gamefreak is the one that creates them. So I trust them and hope they make some good stuff.

What exactly do Pokemon look like? I think anything that is designed is a Pokemon really, you can't say these things don't look like Pokemon since there is no definition of what a Pokemon should look like. As long as they look like monsters with ridiculous abilities (like generating electricity out of nowhere and raping other monsters with it) then it's a Pokemon to me.

Also excited about the crocodile! I hope it gets a badass evolution, like a Hippowdon / Tyranitar mix thing, maybe.

Just imagine Overheat with Encourage. Overheat+STAB+Encourage(assuming it's like a 1.5 boost) would be at 315 base power with no drawbacks.

Agree. My theory on if something doesn't look like a Pokemon: If it's a Pokemon then it looks like a Pokemon because it looks like itself, which is a Pokemon.

Wow, you guys are making a lot of crazy assumptions about this Encourage ability. I will tell you right now that recoil is not considered a secondary effect. Overheat and Close Combat's reductions in stats are also not secondary effects.

Burn, freeze, confusion, flinch, poison, etc. are secondary effects if they happen on a damaging move. Poison from the move Toxic is not considered a secondary effect.

As far as the power boost, I expect either a straight-up 20% boost or a boost relative to how likely the secondary effect occurs.

We can only hope :P

But you have a good point and a good guess...relative to the secondary effect could be cool I suppose. It'd prevent it from being too powerful I think, but the ability would be pretty creative in that regard.

I think this is how it works too. That's still really great for a Fire-type whose STABs by-and-large secondarily inflict Burn.

That would be way too broken in the hands of certain pokemon. I think it just won't inflict flinch or status. Or lower ENEMY stats. But it would still hit you with recoil and your own stat reductions.

with all these new abilities getting cranked out I hope GF spreads love and gives some older pokes some of these new abilities too. Then again, I don't want Garchomp getting Earthquake Spiral as a second ability

I personally think that encourage will be too broken to use. Image a dragon with encourage it would be a wrecking ball.

I'm assuming you're talking about Outrage, right? That'd be legit. But I doubt they'd give this to a Dragon, doesn't really make sense. It might just be a unique ability?

I don't know if it has been mentioned already but

I'm so sorry I missed posting this

Hihidaruma's ability; Encourage, boosts the power of all its attacking moves, but kills any secondary effect that they have.

Jesus Christ they better give it Close Combat and Overheat.
