I'm torn between the two versions...

They're both in Pokémon Black (along with glorious Gochiruzeru), rejoice.

I'd risk saying either Gochiruzeru or Rankurusu, depending of the version.

Both versions seem to have a lot to offer. Makes me want both of them... but I'm going with White thus far, because Zekrom & Greenblob > Reshiram & lolligoth

As for N's "starter", I doubt it will be either of them, but I don't have any better ideas. It's kinda silly for a character who wants Pokemon freed from the tyranny of their human masters to even OWN a Pokemon, if you think about it...
Definitely Black, if anything, for Reshiram.
Yet it's confirmed that N will challenge you at various times...
He's (an?) antagonist throughout the course of B/W, not necessarily a rival.
Wait... so animal rights activists can't own pets? What if N saved his Pokemon from Team Rocket or something? Or he let them choose to go into the wild or help him fulfill his goals?
In that case, it leaves a bit of a hole in his plan: What if the Pogeymanz WANT to stay with humans? He's going forcefully liberate them via *insert Legendary Pokémon Plot Device here*?
We don't know his motives, we don't even know if he is going to actually "liberate" all Pokemon from all trainers. Sure, he speaks of freeing them all, but will his actions follow suit? Maybe he just focuses on freeing them from villains, in which case I ask, would any Pokemon want to aid in the plots of people like Cyrus? Doubtful. I'm not even sold he's our villain or antagonist, for that matter.
First of all, Pokemon are "more" than just pets in that world. And from what I understand, N desires all Pokemon to live separately from humans, free from their control. So it makes no sense for him to use one to fight you, just like everyone else... that goes against his own ethics. I was just pointing out that it's hipocritical for him to own a Pokemon.
I'm sure there could be some story about how he rescued his Pokemon from Team Plasma or whatever, and is going to release it as soon as he brings justice and freedom to the Pokemon - this would make everything clear.
Hmm, I've decided on Pokemon Black. Black has a more awesome legendary(IMO) and Black City :D

All we need now is fan-art of N with a harem of "heroic" pokémon (Lucario, Gallade, etc.), fighting some goon-y villains, and then we'll pretty much have our "antagonist" right there.
Really, N's plan seem to be quite the topic. September's issue of Corocoro better be something revolving around this weird idea this bishounen boy has.

it's for the greater good, so he's allowed to be hypocritical... that's how it works, right?
as for N's team, I think it should be dynamic. personally, I think choices you make in the game should effect what Pokemon he has in his team. when you first meet him, he could ask you a question, with your answer effecting what "starter" he has. other things in the game could effect other Pokemon on his team, like choosing to stop/help him at a certain point in the story. it would make his team different each play through, as well as potentially effecting story aspects. that would be pretty neat if you ask me.
by the way, I didn't mention this earlier, but it seems we have more then one Rival this gen (Charon and Belle, and hopefully N functions as a rival as well as an antagonist or whatever he is), which makes me happy. I hope they all have full teams, and don't stop half way like May did >_>

He's an antagonist. You will fight him at certain points, though. Cheren and Belle are your rivals and you will fight them, too.

I agree. N's role really interests me personally, because for once, there's a character who isn't pure good or pure evil, but somewhere in between (I'll spare you all the Black White shades of gray reference). What a refreshing concept to have a character motivated by his own personal agenda. Not to mention his idea would probably uproot the entire culture of Isshu if it occured.
The next issue of Corocoro can't come soon enough...
He most likely means that he's looking for some way of becoming even stronger than the Isshu Champion, so there will be no one who can stop him from achieving his goal--with what we know about him now, that makes the most sense to me.

So, having 3 rivals is definately something new. I'm pretty pumped for this game. I think I'm going to end up getting both... just saying. No way can I choose between Gothloli and Rankles.
And GF will probably end up trolling us and end up making something like the Sandcroc and Electric Zebra version exclusive as well just to piss people off. lol
I like both the version exclusives but the gothdoll wins my vote. If Shimama is version exclusive I will have to reconsider my choice...again, if it's Pokemon White exclusive.

And I'm sure no pokémon revealed until now is version-exclusive besides those already known. They revealed Reshiram and Zekrom as exclusives (or at least hinted at, whatever), same thing with Gothloli/Rankurusu. Shimama and Meguroko aren't exclusives, I'm sure.
Now, I wouldn't say anything about the not-yet-announced mole pokémon... I guess it's a version-exclusive, but I admit it's only because it reminded me of Skuntank at first sight.
But what if his ability means every move hits for super effective...
