Yeah, I was considering not evolving it, but evolving it seems more sensible, as they all run Adamant. So I'm just going for the Swords Dance set.

It already has Swords Dance, Brick Break and Quick Attack, so it makes sense, doesn't it?

Ok, can anything not packing priority moves in the OU metagame outspeed a +2 speed Gyarados with an Adamant nature?
The only thing able to outspeed +2 Gyarados, assuming you can get 2 DD's up, are Scarf 110 base speed +Speed nature, Scarf 115 base speed +Speed nature, and anything from 130 base speed and above even without +Speed nature but with Scarf will outspeed a +2 Gyarados. :D

I'm planning a Houndoom. I'm using a Modest nature, a Wide Lens, and Fire Blast instead of Timid Nature, Toxic Orb, and Flamethrower. Because I don't like to use Toxic Orb on a pokemon that's already fragile, but opted for the Modest nature because I still want a power boost. Houndoom's speed really isn't that special and boosting it is almost a lost cause.

Do you think it would be a good idea to EV train it in Defense instead of Speed since my Houndoom is already going to be pretty slow?

Why would you ever use Toxic Orb on Houndoom? Do you mean Life Orb?

Also, no. Houndoom's defenses are irreparably bad, unless you're trying to live through a single Mach Punch or something (in which case, find which Pokemon's Mach Punch you're trying to live through, and calculate how many EVs you need for that). Gastrodon with 0 SpAtk EVs (and a neutral nature) OHKOs a Houndoom (without any defensive investment) with Surf after Stealth Rock. Gastrodon isn't strong, and Houndoom's Special Defense is better than its Defense. Basically anything and its mother can OHKO it on one of its weaknesses, and it has plenty of bad weaknesses. That's why people use Life Orb on frail Pokemon; they're probably going to die in one hit anyway, so you might as well be taking away their health, as their purpose is to score quick KOs. That's also why Houndoom needs as much Speed as it can possibly get (in general, you want to be Scarfed if you're not Timid); no matter how hard you try, it just can't take a decently powered hit, so you need to make it as much of an attacking force as possible.

@ Hobbers: Any links you can provide for me so I can further research? Reason being at some point I'll be going somewhere and I may not be able to take my DS or any games with me

If a pokemon Traces Natural Cure, then switches out, does it get it's status cured, or does it lose Natural Cure before it heals itself? Does it still work even if said pokemon had a status affliction before it switched in?

Answered, thank you.

Spades789:

Natural Cure will still work even if the Pokemon didn't have Natural Cure originally and even if it already had a status problem before it gained Natural Cure. However, a Pokemon's Natural Cure will have no effect at the moment it enters battle.

^If you have some way to bait Seed Flare, Scarf Scizor, Crobat or Scarftran come to mind, as they outspeed and OHKO after a turn of LO and SR IIRC.

If you tell your opponent you use those, most of the time they dont mind. However in most tournaments they are banned

Question: Why aren't we allowed to post images in our signatures without badges? It's possible to limit the signature sizes to prevent ridiculous stretch and spam, so I was just curious.
