Does nobody else realise that Sandstorm is now superior to Sun in every way (assuming the new sand abilities are even slightly widespread), since, like sun, you can't have your speed and offense both boosted at the same time, but Sandstorm's better in every other area - better pokémon to abuse it (Rock/Ground are much better offensively than Grass, and Fire doesn't get as much of a boost), wider range of pokémon to abuse it, boosts SpDef, OU auto inducer, damages opponents. The only things Sun has are Flower Gift, Synthesis and co, SolarBeam, and reducing Water power (I'm not counting Thunder since nobody uses Thunder outside of RD teams, and SS stops rain too), all of which are really niche bar the last point, which is of somewhat limited use.

Off Topic: Anyone else think Nintenfreak's signature is hilariously hypocritical?

Even the slowest viable Sunny Day sweeper (Tangrowth) has 100 base speed in the sun.

Base speed isn't doubled, but the actual stat. Tangrowth's maximum speed is 218, which becomes 436 in sun. The maximum a base 100 can go is 328. So Tangrowth has much higher speed than base 100 in the sun. It's 2 points behind the maximum for base 150, which is 438.

Attacking > Defending. I thought that's what Gen IV taught everybody? Shit, even Blissey has a hard time with special attackers. Defensive boosts (ie Sandstorm Special Defense boost for Rock-types) are inferior to boosts to individual attacks or attacking stats (ie Rain Dance for Water-types). Would I rather have Defense boost + Speed/Attack boost or Speed boost + Attack boost? Yeah, I'll take the latter 10/10 times. The saving grace is Sandstorm does damage.

You aren't going to get that Speed+Attack boost unless you are grass/fire with an appropriate ability.

You forgot Clorophyll, but you're right.

You don't listen, I was talking about Sandstorm versus Sunny Day.

This is the post I quoted.

Not true. rock types gain a boost to special defense. Gaining a boost to Speed or Attack ON TOP OF special defense that they already receive does more for Rock types would more than equal the power of rain.

This is the post you quoted.
You see, that's the thing that will keep Sand from being banned. The Pokemon need an ability to boost their Rock, Ground, or Steel attacks OR an ability that doubles their speed. Water types with Swift Swim get double speed AND naturally have their STAB attacks boosted... At the same time. Pokemon that benefit from Sand only get to pick one.

Sand Power and Sand Throw are just neat offensive boosts to Sand, but nothing groundbreaking. Let's be honest though, we can't say anything will be groundbreaking until we start playing the BW Metagame.

You weren't talking about Sunny Day vs. Sandstorm, you were talking about bold part. I argued how Sandstorm is inferior from a purely offensive point of view, then you go on to quote me and say something about Grass/Fire when we were talking about Sandstorm and Rain the entire time.

It is.

Anyway, auto-rain and auto-sun will likely get a retest after some time with the BW metagame, if BW doesn't give us anything like that immediately, which would make the outcome pretty clear.

No, it actually isn't.

Anyway, Gamefreak needs to create Pokemon with Drizzle/Drought. Otherwise we wouldn't really be able to test it in any meaningful way. The test was done by the CAP server and used low level Kyogre/Groudon. Standard server would not allow Ubers into OU with a level cap, just like it doesn't allow Garchomp without Yache Berry/Outrage.

I feel that Kyogre/Groudon would prove to be overpowered even without their abilities.

i could see it, but than again, lanturn gets heal bell, i still think that tabunne gets hb, but gamefreak doesnt always follow logic (chimecho learns heal bell but bronzong doesnt?)

No problem.

New topic. . . anyone think Munna might get a second evo? Musharna seems really anticlimactic.

Nah. I think Musharna's it. But I suppose you never know.

I still don't think we can really guess what Tabunne is yet. It as at least something furry but beyond that there isn't much to go on.
