I dont think anyone realizes Cambell still threw 20 TD's, 15 INT's which is bad but still better than some QB's in the league, while playing in a lol worthy offfense. Granted the Raiders arent much better, but Heyward Bey has been improving and I expect a breakout year from Mcfadden
Okay.
Let me make this absolutely clear as someone who has watched Jason Campbell for 4 seasons.
He is an absolute mediocrity of a quarterback.
His stats look decent, not amazing, but decent. And he gets sacked a lot, leading people to believe that he's just on bad teams with bad offensive lines. But the fact is, the same line that Campbell was supposedly getting killed by suddenly became beastly at the end of the 2007 season. Wonder why? Because Campbell is slow reading defenses, his release is slow, and he has absolutely no deep ball (he has good arm strength but he's woefully inaccurate). He also has absolutely no pocket presence, thus, he takes sacks.
And while he's hard-working, he's also the very opposite of a leader, and takes a while to grasp the playbook - the systems excuse is ridiculous, as Auburn had pretty much the same system until his senior year; Campbell spent 1 year under the Gibbs system, and 2 years under the Al Saunders system, and 2 years under the Jim Zorn system. That's not the picture the media likes to paint, but it's true.
He's modestly accurate in short/intermediate routes, and he has good size for the position but that's it. Other than that, he has no real strengths.
But wait, why does he have such good stats? Well, our skill guys are actually pretty good. Moss is a top 15ish WR still, Cooley is a top 5ish TE, Davis is really good too. If you watch the games, you will realize that the BULK of his passing yards came AFTER THE CATCH - he was more effective dumping it to Moss, Cooley or Davis and having them try to make a play, then actually trying to put the ball in a given area.
I predict McNabb will make all these guys look amazing - I'll take Moss/Davis/Cooley/Thomas as a group over Jackson/Celek/Maclin.
Campbell is a notch above Russell, but ONLY a notch. I'd bench him for Gradowski right now; he is strictly a backup QB in the NFL.
