Smugleaf's evolution is definitely the crappiest of them.

It just gets larger from the first one <_< Nothing special about it. "Ooh look, the tail makes it look like a fancy wallpaper! Use Home Decor Attack!"

Otter and pig I could maybe live with. Perhaps a good intense sprite of the grass evolution (if it's possible) would make things better.

Well, Charizard, Venusaur, Typholosion, Feraligatr, Meganium, Sceptile and Swampert are all bigger versions of their pre-evos, minus a few changes.
 
you know he meant charizard. And I also find it funny how verying people are on the opinions of the starter evolutions. Some love the grass others hate as an example. It just goes to show that GF is cursed to have people not like it no matter waht they do.

wait wait... have the evos been officially confirmed?
 
Wait why cant the "evolution" of theotter be a fighting type. He has thumbs to all for fists. He can use his horn /sword for combat. He looks like a samurai with headgear, armor, and even an almost chest plate. I mean if absol and staraptor can learn super power and close combat I see why not an otter with fists and a big ass horn can't.

Now as to explain the switch to quadrabedal. One thing is that he would gain speed as quadrabedal animals are typically faster but lack the ability for true distance; ex cheetahs. Also as an otter he can stand on hind legs at least as seen by show seels irl. But I find the best explanation is the horn. Because they couldn't give a pokemon a sword as far marrowak and farfetched no pokemon as a seperate weapon; let alone a big ass sword. As such a horn made perfect sense. However to have maximum mobility and sight of the opponent with the horn the otter would have to be under the opponent. As such resorting to moving on all fours.

Edit as for my guess of stats of the ronin otter I would say high attack and sp def on virture of being a fighting type.
80 HP 120Atk 60 def 75 Sp Atk 110Sp def 90 Speed

Relatively a bulkier hitmonlee.

As for the grass one High speed and sp atk with low atk and ehh defenses
75Hp 65 Atk 80 def 125 SpAtk 85 Sp def 105 Speed

As for the fire type not sure

with rare exceptions, Gamefreak's look and type/BSS are closely related. So i think that speculating about the look is almost the same of speculating about the type/BSS.

EDIT@upstart: omfg, you got a point. the horn of the (hopefully fake) otter evo is analog to a sword.
 
120+105+60+90+110+50 Okay if the fire type is indeed fire dark as seen by his colors and positive thinking. I figure his spread would be similar to this. Gratuitous amounts of HP as seen in bulk. However as a dark type low defenses and at least decent attack and specail attack seem to be the trend bar umbreon and ttar. Thus low defense but decent attack and specail attack. Clearly going to be slow. With the rest in specail defense for bulk

We WILL enjoy it, no matter what. Its just that we arent (at least most of us) child anymore, and we dont see pokemon like childs. For most of us, its a strategical and brilliant game. Due to that, we speculate about typings that we think that would be most useful, competitive wise.

just to clarify, i have nothing against those who are still childs/watch the anime/think scizor is supahdupah cool. Its just that I, along with many others, am over it

Good estimates, but remember GameFreak has always given the starters at least 75 in both attacking stats, even for Torterra. I don't they would give a Snake only 65 Base attack anyhow.
