new metalheads thread

I'm a fan of None So Vile personally, but I haven't given anything after that a listen, nor do I plan to

i'm not a big fan of the albums after that, but the albums that still have jon levawhatever (the guitarist since None So Vile) are decent, but i can't say i particularly enjoy them.

either way NSV and BMF are worth most bands discography on their own

In the first edition of "albums I'm excited as fuck for in 2011", Necros Christos has a full length coming out this year. Triune Impurity Rites, their last album, would probably make my top 5 metal albums of all time. Yes, it's that good. It's basically the perfect mix of death/black/doom metal and the whole thing is just amazing. Forgot what the new album is supposed to be called (or even if it has a name yet), but watch out for it.

And, of course, if you haven't heard Triune Impurity Rites, go listen to that immediately.

i yammered on about skeletonwitch in the last thread/the post artists you like thread so i won't here

but i realized i have a stratovarius album so i gave it a listen, and it excites me ! the guy goes like freddy mercury high and it's cheesy as hell, i just love it. also, i'm hoping whatever arch enemy is working on and yelling about on facebook will turn out good

in the realm of live shows i'm pissed because manowar is being an especially big tease because iirc they are playing one whole US date and it's cleveland. aaaaoooorgh

What did everyone think of In War and Pieces and Black Masses?

What did everyone think of In War and Pieces and Black Masses?

Black Masses was decent. standard EW affair for the most part.

haven't bothered with In War and Pieces yet.

hoping to catch Death Angel and a handful of new wave thrash bands i don't care much about live in about a month.

I'm really hoping that Dream Theater will move away from the increasingly generic metal sound now that Portnoy left the band. If they play their cards correctly, then everyone in the band will contribute. And if they don't, then the next album will be completely penned by Petrucci and very little will have changed.
Ill probably give it a listen anyway, but the new DT album is going to be worse than the last 2 if Petrucci writes all the songs. Nobody except DT knows who the drummer is, and I think thats a huge part of what kind of songwriting range they will have. What i really want, though, is a Myung written song again. He always seems to produce quality songs even though hes only written a few. I don't know if they have any directions to turn to.

I don't have much hope anymore, I dont even really listen to them anymore either. If i ever do, its something from awake.

UPDATE

Album is titled "Doom of the Occvlt", release date is scheduled for March 11th. Here's one of the tracks from the album

gonna be badass

Well judging by the typically trite "blasphemous metal!111" title it sure will pretend to be.

very constructive comment. almost as constructive as this response

anyway

Dyscarnate's "Enduring the Massacre" from 2010 was pretty good, but i didn't find out about them until like two days ago. influenced by NY scene bands like Immolation, Suffocation, Incantation, etc but not just another boring Suffocation clone:

basically imo what modern Suffocation/Immolation/etc worship should sound like from just one listen to the album.

i think i've plugged Acid Witch like... 10329141547139070 times between this and the old thread but i feel the need to bring them up again:

Nothing like Nile at 4 in the morning :)

can someone suggest me some gothic metal? and no Cradle of Filth please, it's enough that my baby cousin soils himself in his cradle (get it?)

It was constructive. Optimism and happiness over metal is fine, but going out of one's way to declare how BADASS something sounds when it actually sounds like most metal and has a poser fake badass name is silly.

lmao

go listen to dream theater then I guess

I'm getting this really slow thrashy feel from the song you posted Pope, and no sense of actual badassery. Unless generic (and awfully done) cookie monster vocals are your idea of brutality. Or perhaps it's the echoes off the crappy sound studio walls that make it badass.

Trying so very hard to love it, I mean I can hear that the riffs are great, they just feel so damn slow. I just like my Death Metal coming at me at a faster rate.

I mean that second song starts at an acceptable pace and then they pull it down after about 12 seconds, then it feels like I'm trekking through mud to hear anything musically interesting.

Just not my thing.

I used to be all about speed too so I guess I can see where you're coming from. A year or two ago I probably wouldn't have liked it so much but right now it's easily a top 10 metal album for me

Personally I've been on a stretch of the 1184 album by Windir.

Dance of Mortal Lust

And as for catchy:

My Last Attack - Holy Grail

Kind of meh on the band, but holy shit the singer. I don't know about y'all but I love me some powerful and well done vox, and his are stuck in my head quite often. Judge me as you may.

P.S. Wintersun is playing 4 new shows to get the money to update their shitty computers to finally mix these two hundred track songs Jari is trying to write. Time is becoming like the Duke Nukem sequel in that it's feeling like it'll never come out... Oh, wait. Fuck.

So I've always liked Pantera but haven't really gotten into them that much. I found the Far Beyond Driven album and was blown away.

I know Avenged Sevenfold gets alot of shit, about how they're not metal (which I agree with, at least for the newer albums), but Waking The Fallen is my favorite album of all time, and Second Heartbeat, off that album, is my favorite song of all time.

Last but not least I recently found out about Parkway Drive from a friend and they're great.

Im a huge Mekong D fan, they are planning a release in late 2011, but their newest album is "Wanderer on the Edge of Time" released in the US during the summer. Sorry, had to get that out.
