Pokémon Black/White in-game discussion

Update:
Just lost to N at the castle, and Zekrom has a Jolly nature, with the stats 173/169/136/121/112/121 in order. It's charictaristic is "Likes to run". If I entered these, I received the IV values: 26/28/22/20/14/30. Anyone who wants to double-check please do, but thoughts on this one?
EDIT: This is a SR, by the way. I'm mostly worried about that 1 missing Speed IV. What's going to outspeed me without it, anything crucial?

I consider RNGing clean.

I've never actually heard of that so I looked it up.

Seems just as dirty as EV training, which is the Manipulation of our Pokemon's stats. It wasn't intended to be used in such a way... it was intended to be a way to make each Pokemon different and unique stat-wise. But now we've morphed it into a way to make our Pokemon as fast and as strong and as bulky as they can be.

---------------------------

On another note. I did a random battle and got owned by a Drifblim. It starts with my Starmie VS this Drifblim. Ice Beam puts a huge dent in it but doesn't quite KO it. It then uses the Flying Gem + Acrobat and OHKOs Starmie. No problem. I'll revenge kill it with Salamence! Lets see how much Acrobat does NOW! ...wait....DESTINY BOND? Nooo! NOOO! EJECT! EEEEEEJECCCCT!!!!! And then Salamence died a quick death. It was esentially garunteed the DBond too because Unburden made its base speed go from 80 to 160. If I brought Metagross I could have Bullet Punched it maybe...

Every other Uber with 90 speed that runs max speed.

I suggest resetting for another; the speed iv is the most important IV in battling.

Plus I'm not talking about cheats persay like giving your Pokemon impossible stats or gives you a unobtainable event Pokemon. Those are just plain uncool.
I can totally respect that. I didn't mean to sound all high and mighty. I was just stating how I enjoy playing, that's all. I didn't mean to imply anything.

I don't. Pokemon wasn't designed with max IVs and perfect hidden powers in mind. I'd feel like I was cheating somehow if I blazed through everyone and everything with my flawless HP ice thundurus or something. It would be like I didn't deserve any victories I got. Having a strong conscience is a blessing and a curse, lol.

The higher levels of the battle subway all use max IVs.

I wouldnt have trouble winning that way, I assume 80% of ppl are pokesaving or RNGing

Suppose it had a 31 Speed IV, with those other stats, would it be worth using? I don't play super competitively, just local tournaments and some Wi-Fi. If I were to get really serious about battling, I would have to learn RNG.

Any one see the Serebii news? Where he said the Dreamworld might come out next week. Theres a screenshot of the website saying so. But the website removed the announcement fairly quickly...so we can't be sure. Hopefully it is next. That'd be cool. Then I can get me some berries.

Holy Muk I saw the screenshot and did one of those cheesy old dances as a sort of victory dance. I think I just ran around my room. I'm not quite sure why I'm so pumped up about it though. xD

Simple answer though, they both are reliant on different forms of RNG; you have the basic one with seeds that controls the IVs, and you have a PIDRNG as well that controls what nature/ability/egg inheritance.

Conceptually, a 31 Spe IV is the most important as it will determine outcomes in speed battles and at worst allow you to tie with other Pokemon of the same speed tier. From there it depends; for a sweeper, a 31 IV in its attack stat is preferred, particularly if a calc would determine a KO or not. For tanks/sponges, HP is a must (and in general valuable if you're aiming for 404 subs and only have 100 base HP), as well as generally high defensive stats in whatever to better aid it in its role, whereas the attacking and speed stats lose relative value.

So, essentially, I want a flawless Pokemon. I do not know how to RNG, this is merely a SR, and I'm not lookng for flawless. I realize that this puts me at a disadvantage, but I plan to learn RNG at a later date and can solve that issue then.

Not completely necessarily...sweepers can usually get by without flawless IVs, though you might run into survivability issues even more so than if you had them. Ditto with your main tanks and sponges, as long as they have high or perfect IVs in HP, Def, and SpD (or at least whichever stat fits their role), they can operate without good attacking stats or spe.

Really though you should look at the non c-gear abuse in the thread I linked above if you're interested in better IVed Pokemon, it's almost stupid easy to do and gives great Pokemon without as much frustration as basic SRing. That is, as long as you have a DS phat or Lite...if you have a DSi or 3DS, then you'll have to wait until a version of RNG Reporter supports those. You can try learning c-gear abuse if you have one of the 2 after-mentioned DS models, but that will give you fits if you don't have the time/patience to learn it.

It's dead easy in B/W once you learn how the program works (RNG Reporter/PPRNG). I learnt how to RNG in B/W in just an hour or two yesterday. Granted, I could RNG in 4th gen, so I already knew the basic concepts (such as what the 'frame' is), but they're not too hard to grasp.

Allright, ill try it!

One more thing, does anyone know if Covet works where thief doesn't? (I read that thief can't steal from other ingame trainers...) Im interested in accuiring leftovers :D

If you didn't grab it yet, there are some Leftovers at the Village Bridge.

But yeah, Leftys are a pain to get this gen...as for your specific question I'm not sure if Thief or Covet works, though it seems that from a quick look at Serebii, Cheren's Gigalith is the only post-game Pokemon that has it (or if you aren't that far yet, his starter holds it it seems). And if that doesn't work...well, better start using something with Pick Up at Lv 81+, 1% drop rate is evil.

(And outside of White Forest, the only Pickup user in BW is Lillipup. Herdier and Stoutland lose the Ability :-@ )

I kind of see your argument, but I would counter by pointing out that without RNG manipulation, a player can gain an advantage either by dumb luck, or by having time to kill and patience with conventional breeding or SRing. RNG manipulation is itself something that requires more skill, and less luck and patience, than other methods of obtaining good IVed Pokemon, and among those who can do it, it levels the playing field.

As far as I'm concerned, anything that makes it easier to obtain and train competitive Pokemon is a good thing, since it will help make the WiFi metagame more dynamic. There have been intentional changes by Game Freak on that front: first Emerald gave us the EV reducing berries, allowing a Pokemon to be retrained for a different role. Then DP gave us the Power Items, speeding up EV training. And BW gave us perhaps the biggest change of all, reusable TMs giving us the freedom to experiment with moves instead of having to jealously guard TMs.

I checked out the link above to the 5th Gen RNG thread, but I ran into major confusion because I do not know how to RNG in 4th Gen, or any Gen for that matter, so the terms 'frame' 'seed' and 'PIDRNG' among others are throwing me off. Is there anywhere I could get the step-by-step explanation for a beginning RNG user?

Finally! A female drought vulpix off the gts! I've only been trying for a week.

E4 round 2 down with no problems. My lvl 64 hydreigon single-handedly took down the psychic and ghost ones, and my Archeops took out the fighting dude on its own. I had some trouble with the dark gym because the Sharpedo flinched my Skarmory 5 times in a row with waterfall, but i managed. And my volcarona swept alder's whole team with ease.

I would be very interested in finding information on this as well...

Considering how i got a female drought vulpix and female immunity gligar off the gts, is there really any point in wasting time with those frustratingly boring minigames? It's not like the espeon or bulbasaur ill get will be any good, and they are always male...so why not just let others do the work for me with the dream world pokes you can breed? The only breedable dream world ability i still want/need is prankster sableye anyway, and that might never exist (or even be breedable).

Can you soft reset for the eeveelution?
