What should be set up first, Stealth Rock or Spikes? I can't decide. On the one hand Spikes takes more turns to set up fully but will do more damage potentially. But on the other hand Stealth Rock takes one turn to set up and is probably more of a hazard to the opponent due to its type. I guess I'm asking for opinions rather than a set answer here :P

what's a good sun check that resists both ground and fighting in standard OU?
btw it's 4 a ss team

Latias definitely. She has the typing and the defences to switch into most sun sweepers and threaten them with her stab dragon moves and she also resists fighting and is immune to ground attacks.

SR has no immunities, so I would always set up it first.

Panpour has much better speed, better coverage, evolves earlier (you can evolve it as soon as you get to Castelia and pick up the Water Stone, though waiting until level 22 for Scald is better), and is just all around solid.

For in-game, Panpour wins, especially since your other option for fossils (Archen) is easily one of the top three Pokemon in-game.

Thank you two for your opinions. I'm not sure who I'll go with. I think I'll go Panpour in-game and Tirtouga for competitive battling. Also, I seriously considered Archen, but Defeatist REALLY drove me away.

Defeatist is hardly a problem ingame where there are like absolutely no priority attacks and you get a 110 BP STAB move 2 levels after you get Archen, which runs off a 114 Attack stat.

Yeah. Archen is terrible.

So I'm EV training a Mienfoo at the moment with a macho brace on. He's too weak to battle himself so I switch out and bring in another poke to ko it. Does Mienfoo still get double EVs? Because it doesn't seem like it. I know I used this method in gen4 and it worked fine.

Yes it does. As long as it participates in the battle and doesn't die* it will get the base EVs, and then any items it may hold will boost it

*It's worded this way since level 100s still get EVs even though they don't get EXP. A pokemon getting EXP is easier to notice for EV training.

For every 4 EVs = +1 stat right?

At level 100 + neutral nature, yes. If you have say a level 10 pokemon (and lets just say it doesn't level), you might need 20 EVs before you see it change a stat point. The game's rounding wont make you get 1 stat for every 4 evs unless you're level 100 + neutral nature (except in probably some strange cases where it will work out but who cares about those)

Only at Lv 100. The stat gains are spread out over the levels, IIRC, so if you get all the EVs at Lv 99, you'll see +63, but if, say, you did it between Lv 36 and 37, you'd gain an extra +1 each level.

Edit: Ninja'd.

Edit: Herp derp was wrong anyways. >.>

Oooohhh, gotchya gotchya.
I was confused about the whole "see changes immediately" change they made in gen5 and when I wasn't seeing anything until like 3 battles later even with macho brace, I didn't know if I was getting the double EVs and such.
Alright that clears that up, thanks a lot, appreciate the help.

I've noticed that it's different in Gen V than in Gen IV.
In gen IV, the EV's you got were "recorded" until you leveled up, that's why you would see +10 when you leveled up. Now, EVs are incorporated into the stat immediately as you get them. (I've seen stats changing without leveling up when EV training).

Is Leech Seed, Memento, and Endeavor legal on a Whimsicott set?
Yes. Leech Seed and Endeavor are Level-up moves (Endeavor is actually from Cottonee, but that doesn't change the fact that every Whimsicott can know it regardless of which Egg moves they have).

If you meant to ask if Leech Seed + Memento + Encore is legal, no it is not. Memento and Encore come from different fathers.

I should've also said that the Whimsicott was at Level 1. Same thing there?

Yes. If both parents know Endeavor, then the baby will know Endeavor. If the father knows Memento, it will be passed on. Leech Seed can either be passed on by both parents knowing it or by relearning it as Whimsicott.

yes it is legal even at lvl 1,
Encore, Leech and Memento can be passed down by a member of the Jumpluff line (Jumpluff also needs to learn encore via breeding first though).

edit: oh you meant endeavor not encore, then you need to breed with a pokemon that passes down Memento to Cottonee lvl it up till it learns both leech seed and endeavour and then breed a new cotonee, using the one you lvl'd up to pass down the moves.

assassinfred:

Yes it will. Trick Room affects only the turn order; it doesn't change the Speed of any Pokemon: "During effect, as part of determining priority, active Pokémon with lower Speeds strike before those with higher Speeds, rather than after." Gyro Ball will still do more damage the greater the opponent's Speed is than the user's, not necessarily the "faster" the opponent is than the user.

does toxic spikes work when a substitute is bped?
I got this
Start of turn 6
The foe's Vaporeon used Acid Armor!
The foe's Vaporeon's Defense sharply rose!

Tentacruel used Toxic Spikes!
Poison spikes were scattered all around the feet of imperfectluck's team!

The sandstorm rages!
The foe's Vaporeon is buffeted by the sandstorm!
Tentacruel is buffeted by the sandstorm!
The foe's Vaporeon restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
Tentacruel restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

Start of turn 7
The foe's Vaporeon used Baton Pass!
imperfectluck called Vaporeon back!
imperfectluck sent out Celebi!

Tentacruel used Rapid Spin!
The foe's Celebi's substitute took the damage!

The sandstorm rages!
The foe's Celebi is buffeted by the sandstorm!
Tentacruel is buffeted by the sandstorm!
The foe's Celebi restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
Tentacruel restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

YAYtears:

I've tested the interaction of Substitute and Toxic Spikes in-game. If the user of Substitute uses Baton Pass, the effect of Toxic Spikes can still poison the new Pokémon as normal, and a Poison-type Pokemon will still end the effect of Toxic Spikes as normal.
