And I just so happen to run a mixed set.

Mild / Life Orb / Speed Boost
- Hydro Pump
- Crunch
- Ice Beam
- Protect
252 Sp. Attack, still trying to figure out what Speed benchmark I want to hit before splitting EVs between Attack and Speed.

Enough to outspeed Alakazam after +1 is probably good.

That's probably a good idea. Not only does Alakazam find itself between a rock and a hard place against Sharpedo, the shark's Crunch will have a big bite to it.

Of course, I was looking for a +2 benchmark. Why? My game plan is to bring Sharpedo in on something it can kill (or force out) after one of my pokes fall, proceed to do so, and get +1, Protecting against whatever comes in next turn for +2.

Sharpedo, other than mixed, is walled by Tangela easily. Also, I believe Yanmega can beat him 1 on 1.... He's not that hard to deal with. Rotom-C also checks him very welld

Finally figured out a way to compare Emboar to something:

Emboar is basically a slightly bulkier Darmanitan with less attack and speed. Which makes him very unusuable because Darmanitan's attack and speed are the main reasons people use him.

The common set is Surf/Ice Beam/Crunch/Protect, which destroys Tangela and Rotom-C

With +2 you'll outspeed every unboosted Pokemon in the metagame I believe, so there's no point in going for such benchmarks.

There is need for bench marks.
If you find out exactly how much speed he needs to outspeed the fastest threats, then you can dump the rest of the EV's into his pitiful bulk. Making it more likely you will survive priority even after a few life orb recoils, Honchkrows sucker punch for instance.

I was thinking "dump the rest of the EVs into Attack to bolster Crunch because there's no saving Sharpedo's paper bulk, anyway".

However, it doesn't get sheer force, and since Reckless isn't released, its Flare Blitz is nothing compared to Darmanitan's.

I understand you like Emboar but you seriously have to give it a rest already - even the video posted doesn't exactly mean he's a top class threat since we don't even know what the heck his set was even more so his competitions own set. People have posted time and again his main competition as a fire type outclassing him or taking his niche - I would agree only Trick Room would be his niche being one of the slowest - and I think now comparing him to Darmanitan is going overboard already (other than being two tiers higher than Emboar the sheer difference in their ability - one that increases its recoil for more damage while the other increases damage without increasing recoil along with stat distribution relegating them to very different roles).

If you really want to use Emboar then use him only just be prepared to center your team around him because of his short comings. What does it matter if Emboar isn't an UU or RU threat if you can get him to work - and being uncommon - that should be enough.

lol, I've just gotten to the point where I'm ignoring him because I know I will insult him and get a warning if I address him anymore.

Hey Xephyr, have you had a chance to test out Murkrow yet? If you have, what did you think of it?

It's very good as an annoying support Pokemon and has a lot of usable options (Perish Song, Mean Look, Substitute, Roost, Haze, Toxic). It's also quite bulky. But it can't do much else. One of the cool things it did for me though is mean look+perish song and CM Cress. It was delicious.

I Misread and thought that was a list of all the RU pokemon..
But anyway, seems Power Trick wasn't enough to save Shuckle.

Yeah, I figured the best it could do would be to provide the priority Hazing to take care of Baton Pass teams/CM Cress/etc and possibly status spreading (Toxic/T-Wave) and Perish Trapping for things that would be too difficult to take care of otherwise. Priority Taunting helps out too :3

My mistake for bad wording. I Assumed we were giving him 252 atk ev's already. By dump the rest of EV's into Hp, I meant the left over EV's, which if you are putting 90 into speed, then you'd have 162 Ev's to put into HP.

And I would stick to using waterfall as his move of choice, same BP, but flinching an opponent you didn't quite OHKO is always nice.

I like using mixed LO Sharpedo more than the physical variants. It's a shame it can't get Speed Boost and Dark Pulse though. :(

Two things that stand out right away to take down Sharpedo.
1. Yanmega: If you know they have Sharpedo first, then you send the dragon fly in to rack up the speed boosts and then once sharpedo comes in you can kill it with bug buzz. Even if it has sash you are +1 no matter what.

2. Ferroseed: Physically defensive+Eviolite+water and dark resistance= wall. leech seed and gyro ball although I don't think you'll be running the latter because lets face it.... Ferroseed does NOT have the best attack out there.

You switch in your yanmega very early on in the match anticipating sharpedo, your opponent switchs in their counter, you switch out are killed. Setting up a sweeper in anticipation for another sweeper is not a counter, or a check.

Secondly no one will send sharpedo into a +1,2,3... yanmega and expect it to win.

Ferrothorn is a good counter to sharpedo though, which makes me think that running magneton and sharpedo together would form a very good offensive core.
Or you could run HP fire on Sharpedo, you still hit Tangela and Rotom-L hard with this, so you aren't losing coverage.

Actually, it can. Dark Pulse is one of its DW-exclusive moves this gen. (The other is Thrash.) Unfortunately, it can't be bred to Carvanha, and since Hydro Pump requires breeding...

Then you're screwed against Rhyperior. Surf OHKO's Rhyperior, Waterfall does not.

I'm sorry, but I've never ever seen someone run hp fire on a sharpedo. There are too many other options which would be better. Plus, isn't it's PS attk better than its SP attk? And how much SP attk does it have?

I've tried out Magneton and man that thing is crazy bulky with evolite, but the most effective set I've used on it was Scarf with Volt Switch. It catches so many people off guard.

Couldn't he use Ice Beam for similar results?
