Super Smash Bros 64, Melee, and Brawl thread

I recall it being easy to get an aerial flame choke out of shield no matter what direction most characters rolled in.

Nice 02 avatar, he should be in SSB4 lol.

I wouldn't say that MK is "broken" in the sense that say that MK is "broken" in the sense that he is almost unbeatable with any other char, however, the insane extent to which he over-centralizes makes me wishing that he would be banned.

Yeah, but to a lot of people (myself included), Meta Knight is easily the most enjoyable character in the game. I think it would be silly to ban him if it would mean risking the enjoyment of a relatively significant portion of the playerbase.

I'm no competitive player in Smash Bros. but I own all of the games. (Brawl > original > Melee)
I've always used Pikachu but my current main in Brawl is Lucario. Captain Falcon was the best in the original version, and all Melee is good for now is glitching. Pikachu rapes Cruel Brawl, and that's all I have to say about that

I mean yeah, Black Hole and Mewtwo on BF exist, but I wouldn't call it the only things Melee's good for. Even in just casual play it's overall a lot of fun.

In talking to people who prefer Melee over Brawl, it seems that all they have to say is that Meta Knight is broken and tripping is stupid. I honestly don't care about either of those things enough to discount it as an improvement in the series, so unless somebody else can pull up some horrible aspect of Brawl, I have no reason to play Melee personally

It is not an improvement of the series just because of those two things:

It is floaty and stops combos, tech skill is VERY limited, the thinks you already listed like MK, chain grabbing completely shutting down some chars, the "camp or lose" mentality.

Melee can combo, chaingrabbing (other than dysynching icy's) is limited, tech skill is much higher, you do not have to camp to win, there is no single one char who is better than all other.

So yeah, there are your reasons.

But, i will re-emphasize that brawl is a GREAT casual game, and is still fun competitively.

People like Melee because its more balanced, faster paced, and is actually competitive, so it has tons of replay value for competitive players.

A lot of people like fast games over boring camp fests.

Also nobody mentioned the oddest video game glitch ever- The Melee Master Hand glitch.

chaingrabbing (other than dysynching icy's) is limited
actually, sheik had a pretty devastating chaingrab on quite a few characters, and i think fastfallers could get chaingrabbed by a lot of characters (although they could usually change the trajectory to potentially mess you up).

Which seems quite weird because I heard the same glitch 5 or 6 years ago, tried it over and over again, and it didn't work. Then again I couldn't hack my Gamecube to make people think it worked, or anything like that. I'll still try this one though, my bet says it's fake

Edit: I tried it quite a few times and it clearly seems to be bullshit to me

@ Umby: Well the way that website Iamslow linked showed it is invalid for me

Not really a glitch, but for some reason my brother and I found this highly amusing xD

On another random note, am I the only one who gets annoyed by bowser's suicide grab?? In team battles, I know some people who play as him just so they can get rid someone.

Also, marth, ike, and lucario's (did I forget someone??) down b move is REALLY GAY if you have friends who spam it constantly.

Finally, I'd just like to say that Poke Floats should have been in Brawl. Characters who should have been in Brawl?? I could go on about this for HOURS, but I will say that a lot of the major series (like Mario and Legend of Zelda) all got at least one female character. They could've at least thrown in Krystal for the Star Fox series. Anyone else think so??

Bowser's claw is annoying in general, suicide or not, but I play Marth, so it's not like the end of my sword cares that much. Most tournament matches has rules towards who wins if Bowser suicide grabs anyway, so it's not high on most people's priority list. It's pretty much a basic "don't get hit."

Lucario's counter sucks. You can shield it if you aren't doing something super laggy. Both Marth and Ike's counter leave them wide open if they're just randomly spamming, Ike's even more so sense it activates a bit later than Marth's. If you find them spamming it, you can bait them into doing it and just punish them.

Poke Floats might have been nice, but the stage would have had to have been huge since Brawl's character models are larger than Melee's, and we all know how much campier things get in Brawl on huge stages.

Lyndis should have been a playable character.

I'd love it if he was. I remember hoping for dark matter to be an SSE boss for a while before the game came out.

The brawl vs. melee argument is as old as the end of time itself. As far as I'm concerned, brawl is a fantastic game, but still a game with a handful of flaws that it could have done without. I can honestly see people would prefer one game over the other.

From what I see Melee vs Brawl is Competitive vs Casual.

Anyone that has played both games competitively will say Melee is better, people that just play the series casually will favor Brawl. That's basically what it comes down to

Okay so the Master Hand glitch does work but it takes a long ass time and that guide video sucked.

New topic: I wonder why they decided to spell mêlée wrong

I question the part about casual players preferring brawl even at that point. Melee had a faster paced system and allowed for more items to be on the screen at the same time than brawl did. Melee's matches were potentially more chaotic. I'm a casual player, and although I prefer brawl, I can see this.

I'll admit that what keeps me playing it now are the stages and textures I can download.
