Hey everyone, this is my first year participating in the VGC. I'm usually a TCG guy, but since we can play in both I might as well!! :) So, as you could probably guess, I'm fairly overwhelmed by the pool of options I have for building a doubles team (what, like 600+ pokemon?...sheesh...). Anyways, this is the team I have come up with....I think it needs some more speed, and I would like to see some fast fire type on this team as well. I'll list my other options at the end of the thread. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Garchomp
Jolly / Sand Veil / Expert Belt
(31 attack and 31 speed IVs) (I'll only list IVs where they pertain)
252 atk / 252 spe / 4 hp
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Dragon Claw
Protect
Garchomp is my powerhouse that I use to clean up after I've KO'd whatever potential Ice Beam user my opponent has. With the IV, EV, and Nature, Chompy usually outspeeds every dragon except scarfed ones, of course, and Latios/ias.
Aerodactyl
Jolly / Pressure / Choice Scarf
252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Hp
Ice Fang
Rock Slide
Crunch
Taunt
I know, I know, I have Taunt on a Choice set...It's really my only TR counter right now, so I figured I might as well get the Taunt out there ASAP. Anywho, I love th idea of a speedy Rock Slide, and that's essentially what ScarfDactyl is for. Ice Fang hits dragons hard (especially ones that outspeed Garchomp). Crunch is for Psychic /Ghost pokemon, and is a Latios/ias counter. Is Aerodactyl even worth it tho? hmm...
Lickilicky
Impish (I think surviving a physical fighting move it top priority...I guess....) / Cloud Nin9 / Chople Berry
252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SPD (I can retrain these....)
Protect
Substitute (hopefully eliminate fighting threats and spam Protect/Sub vs a weather team)
Flamethrower
Explosion
Basically....Lickilicky is here to prevent weather effects and to explode. . . sometimes. . .
Conkelldurr
Brave / Guts / Flame Orb
252 Atk / 252 Hp / 4 Spe (31 Iv's across the board....is that sort of thing assumed around here? .... hmmm...)
Mach Punch ... for priority on T-Tar, Excadrill, and Ice threats
Drain Punch to tank
Protect
Rock Slide
Well...let's see...analysis....um...it's a typical Conk. :) And it counters sand teams (I hope...).
Here's where things get iffy....if they haven't already...
Eelektross
Modest / Levitate / Flying Gem
252 SpA / 252 Hp / 4 Spe
Flamethrower
Thunderbolt (could change out with Discharge since I run Chomp...but I don't like the loss in power, or I could add Thunder for rain teams)
Acrobatics
Protect
Eelektross is specifically my Conkeldurr counter. And even tho I haven't trained any Atk EVs, with the Flying Gem he still has gotten the OHKO on all the Conkeldurrs I have faced in Wi-fi. Flamethrower is surprisingly effective against Bronzong and Metagross, and whatever electric attack you guys think I should use is for water types/flying/etc.
Milotic
Modest / Marvel Scale / Leftovers
252 Hp / 252 SpA / 4 Spe
Protect
Ice Beam
Hydro Pump
Surf
Milotic is my other counter to Dragon/Flying types (Ice Beam is wonderful...as you all know...), the water moves are for ground guys or sunny day/fire teams.
That's it! As you can see my team lacks speed (aside from Garchomp and Aerodactyl)....
I have some other options I could use tho, like....
MowTom (Rotom-C)
Naive / Levitate / Sitrus Berry
252 SpA / 252 Spe /4 HP
Leaf Storm
Discharge
Protect
Thunder Wave
Rotom adds an element of speedy Lightning/Grass to my team that can hit some water types pretty hard...As I've stated earlier, my team is lacking in speed, and doesn't even have a grass move on it, so Rotom-C adds a LOT.
Latios
Timid / Levitate / Dragon Gem or Expert Belt if I run it in place of Garchomp
252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Hp
Psychic
Thunderbolt or Ice Beam
Draco Meteor
Protect
If I run this guy in place of Garchomp I will have NO ONE with Earthquake on my team...keep that in mind....I could teach it to my scarfed Aerodactyl I guess....I like Latios simply because of his speed and ability to pretty much OHKO any Dragon type. If I added him I would drop Garchomp (like I said), and either Milotic or Eelektross for Rotom-C or Chandellure (more on it laterz...). Depending on whom I dropped, I would either run Thunderbolt or Ice Beam.
Chandellure
Timid / Probably Choice Scarf or Quick Claw if I run him...maybe Ghost Gem - see, this is another one of those many areas in which I need advice / Flame Body
252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 HP (31 Iv's across the board)
Imprison
Trick Room
Shadow Ball
Overheat
Chandellure would be an AWESOME speed addition to my team (I would probably cut Aerodactyl from my team for it). Chandellure could KO pesky Steel, Ice, Grass, Psychic, and Ghost types and do it with Speed! Imprison/TR is obviously a Trick Room counter.
Finally....
Whimsicott
Timid / Prankster / Focus Sash? ... not sure with this one...
252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Tailwind
Trick Room
Helping hand
Encore
Whimsicott would be my super support pokemon (probably would drop Aerodactyl for this) for this offensive team. Tailwind wind would provide some much needed speed for an otherwise slow team, TR could reverse opponent's TR, Helping hand gives even moooore boosts, and Encore lets me take advantage of non offensive moves.
Well my friends, as I've said, I'm new at this, I've dumped HOURS of my time into this game (at least 70 in the last few weeks)...and I'm kind of getting my mental wires crossed up at this point...any suggestions would be incredible :). Thanks!
