The Everything NHL Thread

I still can't believe our GM Bob Gainey traded Ryan McDonagh to the Rangers for freakin' Scott Gomez. This guy went a whole year without scoring a single goal. God. And he gets payed what, 8.3 million dollars per season??

I'm sorry. I know as a super moderator I am asked to provide certain levels of contribution / significance in each post.

But.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

karlsson will obviously be a finalist for norris, and while my immense bias wants him to win, i'm guessing it'll go to webber this year

if you watched him regularly you'd see he's not bad defensively at all though, he just can't knock people off the puck / throw his weight around / rape the fuck out of people in general like chara or webber because he's like 170 lbs

According to most NYR fans, Ryan McDonagh is their best young defenseman, not Del Zotto. This isn't to say that Del Zotto isn't good, but it certainly speaks volumes of how good McDonagh has been, the Scott Gomez trade makes me lol every time.

McDonagh is probably their best defensive defenseman, sure, but we all know that all that matters in the NHL when it comes to trophies is points. See: Selke Award

Yo Florida, are you even trying?

Never mind this game is a fucking snooze fest St Louis plays a great but sleep inducing system.

Also I'm in love with Kassian. Protects the puck phenomenally, hits so well, and plays decent defense. Playing with Lapierre, hemmed the Blues in the offensive zone. 12 minutes is solid for a player of his calibre and he was the 3rd star tonight.

That Canucks-Blues game might have been the most boring one I've seen this season. Glad they won, but that was really tough to pay attention to...

And Winnipeg-Florida - yikes. The Panthers could conceivably be the 3rd seed in the East this year and get swept in the first round. I hope they make it, since it's been so long since they've been in the playoffs, but I don't think they're going to last very long.

Ron Wilson (finally) gets fired as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs with Randy Carlyle stepping in behind the bench to replace him.

Cant say I didn't see this coming but I think Burke waited too long to make the move. The Leafs needed a shake up a while ago when they started playing like crap and fell down the ranks. Now it's going to be extremely difficult to climb back up.

Also on a lighter note, who do you guys think will take the Selke this year? To me it looks like a race between Datsyuk and Bergeron.

I'm kind of surprised that Burke actually had the balls to fire Wilson, a lot of people didn't think Burke would fire his best friend. However, he waited way too long for this to really make any sort of impact. I kinda wanted them to tank in order to get a high pick, but hey I'll take watchable games as a consolation prize.

What a shitty day for the Bruins, Tuukka Rask gets injured and they don't even get a point against the terrible Islanders because of a non-called Icing. The one time they stop playing until long after the whistle blows and it costs them.

Don't worry they've been playing shitty since they faced the Canucks (12-12-4 with a -16 goal differential) so it's not like this result is any different!

Edit: A beauty by downgoesbrown:

Tim Thomas just watched his backup destroy himself by overreaching to the left. JUST LIKE THE COUNTRY

I'm sorry, the non-icing was definitely a terrible call, but you have to admit that the shitty refs helped your team as well. Lucic grabbing MacDonald's mouthguard and throwing it over the glass on a Bruins powerplay and not getting an Unsportsmanlike call is just the most egregious example.

If you think the refs are unfairly targeting your team, or helping another team, then you're a moron. Straight up

this goes for everyone

BFD. Nobody cares about the regular season, which is probably shocking to you as a Canucks fan but true nonetheless. It's all about the playoffs and it's pretty clear that playing at a 21-2 clip for the whole season would have killed this team before the playoffs even started. It's pretty telling that they've been playing "shitty" as you describe for 25 games yet they still have the biggest goal differential in the league and could back into the 2 seed without trying if they want.

I wasn't saying that the refs targeted the Bruins, I said that a non-called icing directly led to the game-winning goal.
A canucks, islander and blackhawks fan unite. wtf is going on I don't even.

It's amazing what can happen when it's time to hate on Boston sports :)

Same here Carl. As long as it's not announced by that idiot Eddie Olcyzk, who competes only with Joe Buck for the worst announcer in sports. The Bruins were a combined 2 inches from having 4 or even 5 goals by the midway point in the game. That post was like a second goalie today. All of the games against the Rangers this year have been baffling losses. That first one in the last seconds of OT, the game where Lundqvist basically made a case for MVP, and now this one where they dominated most of the game, got it by Lundy, but the post showed up and earned first star. That's gonna be one hell of an Eastern Conference Finals.

I also loved Lucic at the end of that game. Knocking that guy's face back like a bobblehead doll. Of all the players you could have pushed in the back at the end of the game, why would you ever pick Lucic lol

mcdonagh shoved lucic because of the borderline board/hit to the head right before that. he was showing all numbers, facing the boards/glass and lucic just came in and slammed him. did you not see that at all?
