Introduction

Hi there Smogon, it's been a while. After 5 months, I've gotten Pokemon Online to work on my computer, but it's been at least 6 or so months since I've posted an RMT. This team is directed towards the Dream World OU tier, and is based around bulky Calm Mind Meloetta. I hate how people don't use Meloetta, so I decided to use it.

Teambuilding

Right at first, I knew I was set on basing this team around an original Meloetta set of mine.

After this, I decided to utilize Tail Glow Manaphy, which can help prepare for or finish Meloetta's sweep.

With Meloetta in the mix, I had to run Politoed so I could abuse Rest + Hydration. Also, with a Choice Scarf, Politoed could revenge kill.

At this point, I decided that paralysis support would be helpful, and I also needed Stealth Rock support. Jirachi was the natural choice.

With a fully special team, a physical attacker was needed. I went with Technician Breloom for a few reasons, the main being Mach Punch.

I wanted one more thing to abuse rain, and Genesect stuck out at me with U-turn, along with great coverage in Flamethrower and Ice Beam. It abuses rain with Douse Drive Techno Blast.

In Depth

Politoed @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest
~ Hydro Pump
~ Ice Beam
~ Focus Blast
~ Hidden Power Grass

How it works: Politoed is a blessing to this team. Drizzle supports Manaphy, Genesect, Breloom, and Jirachi, and so is very helpful. As for the set, I needed a revenge killer, and one that could beat Excadrill was a bonus. Hydro Pump is of course the obligatory STAB move, hitting surprisingly hard. Focus Blast hits Steel-types like Ferrothorn, the main target of the move. Hidden Power Grass hits bulky Water-types like Jellicent. Maximum EVs are invested in both Special Attack and Speed to maximize Politoed's effectiveness, with 4 in HP for filler. A Modest nature is used to compensate for the lack of power compared to a Choice Specs set.

Why this Pokemon: As mentioned, Politoed is a blessing to the team. It removes any problems with Chandelure, whom Meloetta also happens to hard counter. Manaphy requires Drizzle for Hydration. Genesect loves its halved Fire weakness. Jirachi takes literally nothing from Fire-type moves with Drizzle up. Also, I need a revenge killer.

Genesect @ Douse Drive
Trait: Download
EVs: 16 Atk / 252 SpA / 240 Spe
Naive
~ U-turn
~ Ice Beam
~ Thunder
~ Techno Blast

How it works: I made this set based off of the current EVs, but decided to use Techno Blast. With a Douse Drive, Techno Blast becomes a Water-type move, which is further boosted by rain. You may think losing the item is not worth it, but I do get to bluff a Choice item. I have continually found Flamethrower a waste of a moveslot, and have opted for BoltBeam and Techno Blast. All I need is 240 Speed, and Max Special Attack is optimal for power, with the leftover in Attack.

Why this Pokemon: The main thing here is surprise factor; no one expects Douse Drive Techno Blast. U-turn allows Genesect to get offensive momentum, also allowing it to do some damage instead of hard switching.

286.gif

Breloom @ Life Orb
Trait: Technician
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant
~ Spore
~ Swords Dance
~ Mach Punch
~ Bullet Seed

How it works: This is just a standard Swords Dance Breloom. Spore gets off 100% accurate sleep, allowing Breloom to set up with ease. Mach Punch is super-powerful, OHKOing Excadrill and Blaziken, two major threats, along with weakened Thundurus. If Bullet Seed gets 5 hits, it can OHKO Gliscor with no boost. None of this even assumes a Swords Dance, which makes Breloom even more powerful.

Why this Pokemon: The main thing I needed is priority. The rare Riolu, along with Excadrill, Garchomp, and Blaziken, make it a necessity. Also, I needed a physical attacker to hit the pink blobs.

385.gif

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 224 SpD / 32 Spe
Careful
~ Iron Head
~ Body Slam
~ Stealth Rock
~ Wish

How it works: This is actually the first time I have used Jirachi for all of Generation 5, and it definitely does not disappoint. Body Slam is my main move, causing paralysis, particularly for Excadrill and Blaziken. Iron Head causes flinches, which, in conjunction with Body Slam, make Jirachi very effective. Stealth Rock is a great support move to wear down the opposing team. Wish passing to Meloetta and Breloom is very helpful.

Why this Pokemon: Jirachi can take special hits with ease, particularly Draco Meteors. Wish support is also very helpful to my main sweeper, Meloetta. This team also needed Stealth Rock somewhere, and paralysis support is helpful.

490.gif

Manaphy @ Leftovers
Trait: Hydration
EVs: 220 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 32 Spe
Modest
~ Tail Glow
~ Surf
~ Ice Beam
~ Rest

How it works: Manaphy either starts Meloetta's sweep, ends it, or performs a quick sweep. I have found that getting to +6 is extremely easy with my modified EV spread. I started with 32 Spe to hit the benchmark of 244. Then, I decided to invest 252 EVs in Special Attack for maximum power, along with a Modest nature. I was going to dump the rest in HP, but I decided that putting 4 EVs in Special Defense would be wise to screw with Genesect. Surf is rain-boosted STAB, while Ice Beam provides coverage. Rest is awesome, bringing Manaphy back up to full health with no sleep turns.

Why this Pokemon: It is so easy to get up a boost, and Manaphy can clear the way or finish up for Meloetta. Manaphy is extremely bulky with investment, and can take hits, also providing me with relief for some +4 Attack Baton Passes.

648.gif

Meloetta @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold
~ Calm Mind
~ Psychic
~ Hidden Power Fighting
~ Shadow Ball

How it works: Feast your eyes on the most effective Meloetta set in the game. It can take any hit, and is even bulkier than Manaphy, both physically and specially. It is so easy to boost with Calm Mind, which boosts 128 Special Attack and 128 Special Defense. Psychic is a powerful STAB, with Hidden Power Fighting and Shadow Ball for perfect coverage.

Why this Pokemon: It boosts extremely easily, and can clean up almost any game. Also, it hard counters Chandelure and Reuniclus, two threats. Meloetta is extremely physically bulky, and, like Manaphy, has saved me from Baton Pass teams.

Code:
Offensive Threats

[IMG]http://sprites.pokecheck.org/icon/386-speed.png[/IMG] Deoxys-S:
[LIST]
[*]Focus Sash - Entry hazards are ok, as I am not particularly weak to them. Politoed can normally hold it to Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes
[*]Offensive - Jirachi walls it, and can paralyze it back.
[*]Dual Screens - Screens are not a huge problem in this bulky and generally set up team.
[/LIST]
 [IMG]http://sprites.pokecheck.org/icon/497.png[/IMG] Serperior:
[LIST]
[*]Sub Seed - Jirachi beats it easily, as does Genesect if it lacks HP Fire.
[*]Choice - Jirachi walls even harder here, not really a threat.
[/LIST]
[IMG]http://sprites.pokecheck.org/icon/160.png[/IMG] Feraligatr:
[LIST]
[*]Swords Dance - It is strong, but Manaphy and Meloetta can take hits and retaliate.
[*]Dragon Dance - Same as Swords Dance, but with a lesser Attack boost.
[/LIST]

Baton Pass - Baton Pass teams have very few goals in mind - they either wish to pass to Espeon with a lot of boosts, or pass to a 4 attack Sweeper at Air Balloon or Focus Sash. To defeat these teams, keep these questions in mind:

  • Can I break the chain successfully and/or somewhat easily?
  • Am I not helpless to Espeon with only defensive boosts?
  • Can I hit hard enough to quickly kill these teams after the chain is broken?
  • How could I potentially beat Focus Sash Smeargle before it gets out of hand?

  • Concluding Thoughts

This is definitely the team I have had the most fun playing with, and I look forward to any criticisms and rates. For your convenience, here is an importable.
    Politoed @ Choice Scarf
    Trait: Drizzle
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
    Modest nature (+SpA, -Atk)
    - Hydro Pump
    - Ice Beam
    - Focus Blast
    - Hidden Power Grass

    Genesect @ Douse Drive
    Trait: Download
    EVs: 16 Atk / 252 SpA / 240 Spe
    Naive nature (+Spe, -SpD)
    - U-turn
    - Ice Beam
    - Thunder
    - Techno Blast

    Breloom @ Life Orb
    Trait: Technician
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
    Adamant nature (+Atk, -SpA)
    - Spore
    - Swords Dance
    - Mach Punch
    - Bullet Seed

    Jirachi @ Leftovers
    Trait: Serene Grace
    EVs: 252 HP / 224 SpD / 32 Spe
    Careful nature (+SpD, -SpA)
    - Iron Head
    - Body Slam
    - Stealth Rock
    - Wish

    Manaphy @ Leftovers
    Trait: Hydration
    EVs: 220 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 32 Spe
    Modest nature (+SpA, -Atk)
    - Tail Glow
    - Surf
    - Ice Beam
    - Rest

    Meloetta @ Leftovers
    Trait: Serene Grace
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
    Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
    - Calm Mind
    - Psychic
    - Hidden Power Fighting
    - Shadow Ball
Anyways, thanks for reading, and, as always provide some rates with constructive criticism. I'll finish up threatlist tomorrow.
Well, it looks as though there is nothing left to say, so:
    Cheers! :pimp:

Just saying, Keldeo completely destroys this team, especially more offensive variants with Life Orbs. It can easily set up on Politoed locked into anything apart from HP Grass. Still, it's great to see someone else using Meloetta.

Solid Team, changes in bold.

Politoed @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest nature (+SpA, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Electric

I use HP Electric to get coverage on Tentacruel, who comes in and gets a free toxic spikes.

Genesect @ Expert Belt
Trait: Download
EVs: 16 Atk / 252 SpA / 240 Spe
Naive nature (+Spe, -SpD)
- U-turn
- Ice Beam
- Thunder
- Flamethrower

This set has BoltBeam coverage, but Flamethrower hits steels like Scizor and Magnezone for super-effective damage. HP Ground could also be considered.

Breloom @ Leftovers
Trait: Technician
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Spore
- Bulk Up
- Mach Punch
- Bullet Seed

Although SD gives Breloom a +2 boost, Bulk Up increases, well, bulkiness, which somewhat makes up for a lack of recovery. Without Leftovers, Breloom dies really quickly. But Life Orb hits harder; get rid of SD or Life Orb, but not both.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 224 SpD / 32 Spe
Careful nature (+SpD, -SpA)
- Iron Head
- Body Slam
- Stealth Rock
- Wish

Standard Jirachi, leave as is.

Manaphy @ Leftovers
Trait: Hydration
EVs: 220 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 32 Spe
Modest nature (+SpA, -Atk)
- Tail Glow
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Rest

Rotom-W and Jellicent give this set some trouble. Your team has many Ice-type moves, I might switch Ice Beam for Grass Knot.

Meloetta @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Hidden Power Fighting
- Shadow Ball

Nice, not much to change. Possibly Life Orb here?

Good team. Isn't Manaphy banned? Either way, it seems solid.

For the user wondering, yes manaphy is allowed in dream world OU.

That said most Keldeo variants lol at this team, especially Specs variants, who literally take this entire team out in two shots. I really think you should try Scarf Genesect, since it gives this team some Speed which it's really lacking right about now.

Sorry, as much as I'd hate to be "that guy" I'm not buying that this team was #1 for a second.

doubt.jpg

The top 5 of the tier have well over 1500 points. That's not ladder decay and certainly not 2 days worth. I get to 1400 now & again and a bad day of laddering will easily bring be down to the 1200s, but losing 500 points?

But that's not the biggest problem. I play DW and I use Meloetta, but I could not see this team being #1 by any stretch. Feel free to prove me wrong, and I'll apologize, but...well here:

Breloom RUINS your team after SR with Jirachi being the only thing that can take a +2 Mach Punch and even then, Jirachi falls to it after one layer of Spikes.

Keldeo destroys you just as hard after 1 Calm Mind as not even Max SpDef Jirachi can take a Hydro Pump in Rain and Manaphy & Politoed are just setup fodder.

Thundurus only needs 1 Nasty Plot to blast through your team, with the only opposition being your Scarf Politoed.

Zapdos smashes everyone but Jirachi.

Genesect OHKOs everyone but, again, Jirachi.

Shadow Tag Chandelure (the #1 Pokemon in DW) removes nearly half your team, and if she gets Jirachi, that's GG because your team is paper-thin without Jirachi.

Dragonite & Salamence both rip through your team after a Dragon Dance.

You're weak to many of the TOP threats of DW OU. You don't get to the top of any ladder with those sort of weaknesses. Sorry for being so critical, but, as much as I'd love to see Meloetta at the top, there's just no way I can believe this was the team that did it.

"Feast your eyes on the most effective Meloetta set in the game."
No.
Just no.
2 things...for starters at least:
You're using Meloetta on a Rain Team...without Thunder...
SHE HAS SERENE GRACE THUNDER! USE IT!
60% chance to Paralyze and it hits anything that you want Shadow Ball to hit with the bonus of paralyzing them and their switch-ins.
You have Genesect, Breloom (Spore), & Jirachi for Reuniclus anyway. You REALLY don't need Meloetta to deal with Reuniclus.
Get rid of Shadow Ball & start bringing down the Thunder.

The second thing is that you're running Max Def on Meloetta. I can guarantee that you're wasting EVs. Max HP/Def is only good if you have a Pokemon in mind that you need EXACTLY 252 Def EVs to take a hit from, otherwise you're just wasting EVs.

Just a nitpick: Bluffing a Choice item doesn't work for Genesect because Cartridges change his sprite. It's like Giratina-O trying to bluff as Giratina-A. It just doesn't work.

Sorry, as much as I'd hate to be "that guy" I'm not buying that this team was #1 for a second.
I completely understand what your saying, but I'm not lying.

Feel free to prove me wrong, and I'll apologize, but...well here I'll ladder with it again to prove it, but, while using this team, I won almost every battle.

Breloom RUINS your team after SR with Jirachi being the only thing that can take a +2 Mach Punch and even then, Jirachi falls to it after one layer of Spikes.
I did not run in to more than 2 Brelooms. I just don't see them at all. When I saw them, Meloetta and Jirachi did the job just fine, maybe losing one Pokemon and bringing in Breloom if needed.
Keldeo destroys you just as hard after 1 Calm Mind as not even Max SpDef Jirachi can take a Hydro Pump in Rain and Manaphy & Politoed are just setup fodder.
Meloetta normally does the job for me, as does Breloom?
Thundurus only needs 1 Nasty Plot to blast through your team, with the only opposition being your Scarf Politoed.
Thundurus is dealt with by Meloetta too.

Zapdos smashes everyone but Jirachi.
I have problems with Zapdos, but it does not smash Meloetta or Genesect (who is running a Hasty nature actually)

Genesect OHKOs everyone but, again, Jirachi.
Genesect does not OHKO Manaphy, Meloetta, or Politoed, either.

Shadow Tag Chandelure (the #1 Pokemon in DW) removes nearly half your team, and if she gets Jirachi, that's GG because your team is paper-thin without Jirachi.
Meloetta hard counters it, Politoed can easily take an Energy Ball, Manaphy can easily take an Energy Ball, and I'm not stupid enough to leave something in that is weak to Chandelure.

Dragonite & Salamence both rip through Iyour team after a Dragon Dance. Manaphy can OHKO both, taking even an Outrage, Jirachi can take an Outrage if need be. Jirachi can also paralyze them. Politoed works to beat Dragonite as well. Meloetta can pretty easily take a hit or two and KO.

You're weak to many of the TOP threats of DW OU. You don't get to the top of any ladder with those sort of weaknesses. Sorry for being so critical, but, as much as I'd love to see Meloetta at the top, there's just no way I can believe this was the team that did it.

No.
Just no.
2 things...for starters at least:
You're using Meloetta on a Rain Team...without Thunder...
SHE HAS SERENE GRACE THUNDER! USE IT! OK.

Good idea, thank you.

I realize that now, I'll fix that.

I honestly would not lie to anybody, but I tested an extremely crappy team yesterday, which brought me down a lot, in addition to decay, and this team does everything it needs to do, and I really did not have a good day laddering yesterday, and for those who can count my peak was 4 days ago, not yesterday. I'm really sorry if anyone doubts me, but I'm not lying about my peak. Whatever issues I have, and I acknowledge that this team has some issues. Also, in relation to that, I didn't play a single person over 1,000 the day this team peaked (I kept checking rankings to judge how "well" I would need to play). As for the other rates:

@Natgeo I've been considering that, but then the first thing that comes to mind is that I would have two scarfers. I'll try making it Scarf and losing the Drive.

@Ninjanerd10 I'm going to go Choice Scarf on Genesect with Flamethrower. The rest of your changes are good. Also, I'm going to go Bulk Up Life Orb on Breloom.

Thanks for the helpful rates, as for Katakiri, I'll prove you wrong.

Lol, saying teams reached number one just encourages people to take a look at the thread. Really though, if you've already been found out, don't keep lying about it; you just appear even worse off. This team never got to number one, you can tell just by the team (Really? No Thunder on Meloetta? Douse Drive? Loads of apparent weaknesses?) and your current ranking speaks for itself...

You made a mistake man, it's alright. Still try and get those common weaknesses out, because successfully laddering with as many common weaknesses as you have can be very difficult. Overall, just get counters to the pokes mentioned in Katakira's post and then try to go from there.

Why not run a more offensive Meloetta. I haven't seen a Reuniculus in the DW OU meta, and I dont think you need all that bulk. Something like Calm Mind, Focus Blast, Thunder, Shadow Ball could work

I've also noticed that you have no Ground immunities, which will mean that Spikes will absolutely annihilate this team. At least you could really do with a spinner; consider Starmie > Manaphy since to be honest I'm not really sure what exactly Manaphy does to help your team aside from just being there. However, that still won't save you from STAB Ground attacks, which pick this team apart one by one. You'd better make sure Politoed is still alive, otherwise you're screwed. Most people will just switch out though, so that's not really reliable enough. Consider a Gliscor somewhere since it will give you an Electric immunity which you also lack, as well as a Ground immunity.

Nice team, I like the idea of Meloetta. It's something I've been wanting to try out. But yeah, I can see this team having a lot of trouble with Thundurus. The majority are run with Rain Teams, and you using Rain yourself just gives it an easier time firing Thunders left and right. Nothing on your team wants to switch in on it, and it has an easy time against your team, being able to 2HKO every member. I also agree with Taylor, you do have a big Keldeo weakness. It abuses the Rain and has a field day with your team, nothing wants to switch in on it, and the only thing that outspeeds is Politoed who can't do much after Keldeo gets one or two CM's up. To help, I'd recommend Amoongus over Jirachi; it can take those Special hits easily, and shake it off with Regenerator. Seeing how this team is also pretty Genesect weak, it also gives you an invaluable check to it. It cripples it with a Spore if it stays in, or hits something else after U-turning out. Here is the set:

Amoonguss (F) @ Leftovers / Shed Shell

EVs: 252 HP / 232 SDef / 24 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
