So much sand and a puppy :D

Hey everyone and welcome to my third RMT. This time I decided to get into the sand. Yep a sand team. It has one me a decent amount of wins with the only losses were from me not being smart but it was fun and efficient on the win.

In depth

455.png

Hippowdown@leftovers
Nature:Impish
trait: Sand stream
Evs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Spdef
Moves:
earthquake
stealth rock
roar
slack off

Tyranitars are not my thing. The weaknesses it brought were distasteful for me. Thus hippowdon was the only other option for permanent sand. It does a good job at it unless it is threatened out of the lead by a rotom-W. After it sets sands I got a couple of options. Set up rocks or immediate phasing till it gets the right thing to set up rocks on. slack off for the reliable recovery. Earthquake for reliable STAB.

414.png

Bastiodon@Leftovers
Nature:Impish
Trait: sturdy
Evs: 252 HP, 252 DEF, 4 spdef
Ivs: 0 Speed
Moves:
Metal burst
Stealth rock
Toxic
Roar

Back up rocks and my last ditch momentum killer. Bastiodons weaknesses in conjunction with metal burst is my best sweep ender if I have no other options left. Metal burst for obvious reasons to the use. This also provides great momentum acceleration after a U-turn from Archeops. Toxic is for status affliction.

597.png

Archeops@choice band
Nature Jolly
Trait: Defeatist
Evs: 252 Atk, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Moves:
U-turn
Earthquake
Stone edge
Quick attack

Revenge killer of the team. It is also one hell of a heavy hitter as well with that band. And defeatist isn't as crippling thanks to the band as well. Quick attack was just for some sort of priority attack since everyone else couldn't use one. Archeops also does the kill turn trick mentioned earlier with Bastiodon. Stone edge is it's only stab but can really hurt alot that tries to come in. Even dragonites don't like a stone edge from this monster.

536.png

Stoutland@choice band
Nature: adamant
Trait: Sand rush
Evs: 252 ATK, 252 Speed, 4 HP

Moves:
Wild charge
Fire fang
Return
Crunch

This things purpose in life is the dirt. So use it. Right? With this one is similar to that of archeops, but is more on wear down instead of sucker punch tactics. The move set is pretty self explanatory. As much coverage as possible with a reliable stab. Return offers that. The rest are all coverage attacks.

609.png

Reuniclus@Life orb
Nature: Modest
Trait: Magic guard
Evs: 252 HP, 252 DEF, 4 SPDef
Moves
Calm mind
Focus blast
Psychic
Recover

Reuniclus is a valuable special attacker thanks to a wonderful ability in magic guard. It was a nice fit. Though I am thinking of changing it out since I need electric attacks. Reuniclus is the setup sweeper. Calm mind is the move for obvious reasons. Psychic for main stab. Focus blast for a coverage attack. Recover for reliable recovery.

344.png

Claydol@Leftovers
Nature:Bold
Trait: levitate
Evs: 128 Hp, 252 def, 72 SpATK, 58 SpDEF
Moves:
Rapid spin
Calm mind
Ice beam
Psyshock

My spinning calm mind attacker. Claydol is the perfect counter to a terrakion. Resisting both STABS and a immunity to a common coverage move. Claydol can come in on any choice locked terrakion and do whatever it wants. Calmind makes this thing a respectable bulky attacker so put that to use and makes a death sentence if left uncontrolled. Ice beam for gliscor, Landorus, and dragon slayer. Psyshock to hurt special walls.

Now, I wait.

Hey, nice team ;)

I see that you may have some problems with Skarmory. Don't know the damages of a Choice Banded STAB Stone Edge from Archeops to a Defensive Skarmory, but it seems that Skarmory can be the nightmare of this team.

For that, I propose Rotom-W. Rotom-W can threat Skarmory and take some water moves that hurt your team a lot. He can also give you better weapons against Rain Teams. You can try the bulky attacker in smogon's Rotom-W thread over Archeops or Bastiodon.

Hope I've helped, sorry for my bas English, have fun ;)

hey pretty cool team you have ther although i do have a few suggestoins.

1. two choice banded pokes is a bit of an overkill isnt it? i agree with GodotFr in switching Archeops with rotomwash.

2. and two pokemon with stealth rocks is a bit weird as well may i suggest skarmory to replace bastoido? Skarm is another poke with high defense, sturdy. what sets it appart from bastodon is recovery and you can use Skarmory to set up spikes which can help benefit your team.

so anyway nice team and i hope you consider my suggestoins :)

I Like the idea of rotom w on a sand team but I have to decline that since this team is built on sand storm immunity. Ultimately the two choice bands weren't originally gonna be that. Stoutland had a life orb instead. I might put that back on. Bastiodon was there mainly to make use of the rock sand storm bonus. Again I din't like tyranitars typing. Plus I never really used a skarmory before. I'll need to see some fights with it to get the idea. But I really wanted a defensive rock type in that slot.

Hi Ninetale3

Pretty interesting and unique Sand team you have here. I really like your use of Pokemon that aren’t so commonly used such as Archeops and Stoutland. Looking at your team, it appears to be weak to Offensive Rain Teams. Common rain threats such as Politoed and Starmie can hit your team very hard, often for super-effective damage. If you are able to keep Hippowdon for a long duration of the battle, you might be able to survive sometimes but oftentimes he will be overwhelmed in the onslaught. For this reason I would recommend replacing Bastiodon with a Scarfed Rotom-W. Rotom-W is a great Pokemon as it only has one weakness (Grass) and is able to check both Rain teams and Sun teams relatively well with its dual STAB. I would recommend a moveset of Hydro Pump / Volt Switch / Hidden Power (Ice) / Trick with a Choice Scarf. This set is nice in that it provides you with a Scarfer, allowing you to revenge kill with something when Sand is not up and also gives you a way to cripple walls by Tricking them a Scarf. Rotom-W also helps your team greatly as it beats Skarmory who is also a tough threat for your team to take out currently as many of your attackers are Physical. Hidden Power Ice also helps against Dragons such as Dragonite after a Dragon Dance boost if its Multiscale has been broken. I know you posted that you don't want to use Rotom-W because you want sandstorm immunity, but then your team will greatly struggle against rain teams and offensive sun so I strongly encourage you to try him out.

Now onto some smaller changes. I would move the 252 Special Defense EVs on Reuniclus into Defense. The reason for this is that you are using a Calm Mind Reuniclus so you will already be boosting its Special Defense stat. It is more beneficial to buff up your physical defense with the EVs so that you can better take hits from both sides, giving you more opportunity to sweep and longevity. Another change I would make on Reuniclus is Focus Blast over Energy Ball. Grass is a pretty poor offensive typing as there are many types that resist Grass. Focus Blast with Psychic provides much better coverage and allows you to hit the many Steel types in OU such as Heatran and Ferrothorn for at least neutral or better damage. Something else I suggest you consider is an Adamant Nature over Jolly on Stoutland. The extra power provided by the Adamant nature is much appreciated as Stoutland’s base 100 Attack stat is not great and the extra speed is not really necessary when under Sand. This will allow you to take out some things that you were unable to take out with Jolly Nature.

Hope I helped and good luck with your team!

Set:

Rotom-W @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Trick

IVs: 31 HP / 30 Atk / 30 Def / 31 SAtk / 31 SDef / 31 Spd

tl;dr

Bastiodon ----> Rotom-W
252 Special Defense EVs on Reuniclus ----> 252 Defense EVs
Energy Ball on Reuniclus ----> Focus Blast
Jolly Nature Stoutland ----> Adamant Nature

Everyone seems to be missing the most important point. You have four! Water weaknesses and zero resists. I can't understand how you don't straight up lose to anything with a water attack. No Grass resists either with 2 weaknesses.

Okay, so Novaray's suggestion of some form of Rotom-W is a good one. If you replace Bastiodon for it, that would leave you without a Dragon resist. There are a LOT of changes you can make to fix this team up after that. For instance, Forretress > Claydol, and Celebi over Reuniclus looks goodd enough.

Wow I never thought of rotom-w Like that. I will have to try it now. I will Update the minor changes when I get the chance too.

I wanted to use Claydol since it gets both spike immunity and a resisted stealth rock. I did try forretress in the past and it fell short against sun teams and other weather teams. Celebi I want to avoid since It is going to be recreated in the actual games. Nothing personal to Celebi. Just that reuniclus is easier to manipulate the ivs for as well as easier to obtain in general.

I second everyone saying Rotom-W over Bastidon. Seriously, it's a good call, dude.

IMO Archeops is pretty meh, I'd suggest Landorus instead. It still U-Turns, but now you have it's awesome Sand Force Ability powering up Earthquake and Stone Edge. In the last slot, Hidden Power Ice is a big F you to Gliscor. Choice Band, Choice Scarf, and Expert Belt are all solid item choices.

Since you have a big Water weakness, I'd say ditch Ice Fang on Stoutland and go for Wild Charge. Nailing stupid stuff like Gyarados and Politoed for super effective is pretty solid.

Good luck, I <3 Sand teams.

Nintale3, this is a great team!! It has the one thing I look for when browsing RMTs to rate: CREATIVITY.

Anyway, I do not see many problems. You could perhaps add a Cradily to better combat rain teams. Other than that, awesome job. ^_^

Looks like it's going to be a spot battle between rotom-w and cradily. I'll need to try them both out now.
