Come talk to me when the Cowboys are out of the NFC East >_>

Getting Vilma back is HUGE for the Saints. As in they might actually have a defense now huge. He's their best athlete and their leader, and he's the guy that's going to give them a chance at a decent Paytonless season.

Besides losing Gregg Williams, what has happened to the Saints defense? (serious question) Spags was a good coach in NY - wouldn't be too surprised in the Saints fielded a decent enough defense. The Rams defense last year was pretty terrible, but they also lost most of their CBs to injury

Dunno about anyone else, but I'm happy the judge overturned Goodell's ruling and lifted the ban for now, as a Goodell hater it's nice to see it spat back at his face. And he better be careful if he wants to really go for the option to ban them based on intent to injure, as that's probably a lot harder to prove and could blow up in his face far faster than this one did.

Mercy, getting Vilma back is a huge deal. Thanks to injuries they were suffering, the Saints' linebackers were looking less and less formidable. Plug a presumably healthy Vilma in (I'm certain he hasn't been twiddling his thumbs at home, if he thought this suspension might be overturned he's been working out all summer) and he'll be a big upgrade over whomever he's replacing. Add to that the fact that he's the leader of the defense and the one who relays calls to everyone else, and it'll be a huge deal for the Saints. Not to mention the fact that it's a giant emotional boost headed into the season.

On that note, I'm pretty sure he'll move to outside linebacker if he turns out to be OK enough to play (though he won't be playing this weekend, obviously).

Im sure it would be Lofton moving to OLB instead of Vilma and its a entirely different postion so I cant see either of them being as good as they were playing inside. I cant recall someone switching LB positions and still maintaining the same level of play. I remember Keith Brooking moving inside one year to compensate for injuries and there was a noticeable dropoff in his play.

And this a Saints defense that has struggled a lot to force turnovers and get sacks since their 2009 SB year and Spagnuolo is a step down as a coordinator from Williams. So I dont think getting Vilma back makes their D significantly better.

Supposedly the repeal might be short-lived.

Spag is no upgrade over Williams, and they lost Tracy Porter while gaining a couple LBs. Without Vilma as well, the defense is no better than they were last season where they ranked 24th, and without any pass rushers they probably won't be much better with Vilma.

Mercy, he doesn't have to be a significant addition to the defense in terms of player skill - he's not much better than what they have, and one of them will have to play out of position. However, if he does stay unsuspended, he will be a massive emotional support to the team and will help the defense with just his presence on the sideline and in the locker room. Just ask any Saints fan how they feel about getting him back - multiply that by several times and you'll see how the Saints' players feel about it.

I'm not sure who it was, but the original Cowboy owner wanted really badly to be with the Giants and Eagles because of the huge markets. Worked out well. Also isn't Vilma one of the worst LBs in the league? I can understand leadership, but other than that is he an upgrade over who the Saints were planning to use?

Also we are getting WAY off topic here guys. Let's get back to the Giants. I have completely changed my mind. I want them to keep running the ball against Tampa Bay and then get crushed. Something along the lines of 14-28, with Tampa Bay scoring the last two TDs in the 4th quater. And if they keep running the ball, i want a humiliating blown out game against the Panthers. I have had it with their(Fewell/Gilbride) arrogance and need to learn early to go back to what they did right during that playoff run. Calling run plays at this point is basically a dead down and another cock block for Eli. Oh and yeah, i want to see NO 4th quater comebacks from Eli in these next two games. Let them lose and face the reality that A) We can't run and B) Fewell you are not some genius defensive mind, you are arrogant and non of your "inovations" work. Let's start 0-3, get the media and fans causing an uproar so maybe these tarts can get their head up out of their asses. Best reason why? Last time i checked, losing QBs are supposed to have a LOT of yards. You know, you pass to catch up? No but the great Killdrive decides to run and go 3 and out nearing the 4th Quater. I can understand the defense shutting down our passing game, but that was far from the case during that game. Eli was 21-32 with six dropped passes. Why? Because they could never get in sync with the stupid cock block runs. During the game Eli made 1 bad throw that the receivers couldn't catch..1!! And even while playing out of his mind Eli only had 213 yards..

This is my last say about this game, thank you. Of course, if they stop trying to force the run in such a stupid and stubborn way, then my point above is moot. They learned their lesson and i want them to win.

I just want to say that the reason the Packers had such success in their superbowl run is greatly because despite the fact that they had no running game to speak of, Mike McCarthy continued to draw a balance between running and passing attempts, giving Rodgers real opportunities to make plays.

Obviously you won't have nearly as much success when your QB is Eli and not Rodgers, but it still provides concrete evidence that balanced play calling is the way to go.

As someone who doesn't post often in this thread, I must ask:

does some hero always have a massive hard-on for the Giants (more specifically eli manning)

Yes.

And that's some of the most convoluted thinking I've heard. You actually want your team to lose? I can understand maybe late in the season if that's going to get you a better spot in the playoffs (though don't be like those Olympic badminton players, lol) but wanting the team to start 0-3 is kinda dumb, IMO. Even though you think it would happen, the Giants won't win 13 games in a row. Heck, I don't think they'd win 10 out of the final 13 if they started 0-3.

But we're getting WAY off topic here. Let's get back to the Eagles.

So... what games are you guys most excited for this Sunday? The biggest matchup is probably SF/GB, but PIT/DEN will be interesting to see how Peyton fares.

I'm pretty interested in SD/OAK. No idea what to expect out of that division. With Palmer and McFadden, the offense has the potential to be pretty good. Then again, the more likely scenario is that McFadden gets hurt by week 7 and Palmer will continue to suck.

It's less the games that I'm excited to see and more of the individual players or teams.

How will the Colts, Skins, and Hawks play with their respective rookie quarterbacks? I'd like to throw the Dolphins and Browns in there too but I'm not confident in either Tannehill or Weeden. I'm also looking forward to the second year QBs: I feel that Ponder and Locker will take the next step, and we'll see whether Cam can as well.

How much will the Bears' offense improve with Bush and Marshall? How much will Buffalo's defense improve with Mario Williams? How will Peyton Manning, Adrian Peterson, and Jamaal Charles come back from their respective injuries?

If I had to choose one game to watch (that wasn't the Coons) I'd definitely have to go with the Broncos-Steelers game. I can't wait to see Peyton play, but I could do without the media talking about him for the entire week next week (along with the inevitable TEBOW SHOULD START).

Ugh I really fucking hate the Cardinals...their shitty game with the Seahawks is stopping me from watching apparently what the bulk of the country gets, Ninets/Packers :(

It really does suck having one of the franchises in your state if you don't like them...

That's it. No more QB ranking. No more saying who is better than whom. IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER, THE SEASON LITERALLY JUST STARTED.

There are a million other NFL storylines to talk about aside from whether Eli's penis is bigger than Romo's. And for all you jackasses complaining about some hero, you're just as bad as him because you CONTINUE to engage him on these stupid topics. YOU'RE NOT HELPING.

Me, I'm excited for the Bills-Jets game. Finally, we get to see our d-line pin their ears back and go after a QB for real. What makes it even more fun is the Jets don't really HAVE a QB, or an o-line for that matter. Also, I'll be keeping an eye on OAK-SD, because I think there's about to be a paradigm shift in the AFC West power structure. (Chiefs included.)

Hey it's not my fault that to us hardcore fans(except byrne who well, is byrne) Eli is the most controversial and polarizing quaterback. The Giants are also the most interesting team. They are extremely unique. A team that steamrolls and crushes the best teams but also gets humiliated by inferior/terrible teams on a regular basis. Lots of drama there and discussion topics.

And by the way, the Jets have three(?) Pro Bowlers on the line. And is Stevie even playing? I picked the Bills have no clue how good their secondary is, as interceptions are the best and easiest way to beat the Jets.

@shinryu, wtf? I get all Charger and Raider games on local channels and the national games on NBC, FOX or CBS. You are telling me they actually remove the national game and place a local game in the big three?

I'm not sure how they do it most places, but here in ATL the Falcons game is always shown, and if it's a home game it'll be the only game on that time and if it's an away game they'll usually have two games on at that time.

We never get them on local channels, as I guess you do in Cali (and possibly New York and Florida at that).

So... what games are you guys most excited for this Sunday? The biggest matchup is probably SF/GB, but PIT/DEN will be interesting to see how Peyton fares.

Eagles at Browns: Obvious reasons, as the Eagles are my home team. Want to see them do well in the opening game, which they should because lol it's the Browns.

Steelers at Broncos: Just want to see Peyton Manning and how he does in his first start since the injury. Hopefully well, because I'm not particularly fond of the Steelers.

Colts at Bears: Want to see if the Andrew Luck hype is deserved.

Redskins at Saints: Obviously I want to see the hurt put on the Skins, and also see how good RG3 looks to see if he'll be good against us.

A team that steamrolls and crushes the best teams but also gets humiliated by inferior/terrible teams on a regular basis.

You mean the Cowboys?

Anyways, things I'm excited for in every game tomorrow:

IND vs CHI
Obviously Andrew Luck is the major thing that everyone'll be watching this game to see, but I also wanna see if Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery will help Jay Cutler be consistently solid.

PHI vs. CLE
wondering what michael vick will hurt this time lol

But seriously, Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson are the only reasons I will watch a single Browns game this year.

STL vs DET
Matt Stafford and Megatron are always fun to watch, and it'll be interesting to see if Jahvid Best can rebound to injury

shoutout to my boy danny amendola texas tech best

MIA vs HOU
Personally, I think Ryan Tannehill's going to be a huge bust. We'll see.

ATL vs KC
Really excited to see Julio Jones take his game to the next level. Now Matt Ryan just needs to follow suit.

JAC vs MIN
Maybe Justin Blackmon will make Blaine Gabbert not suck. Then again, maybe not. Meanwhile, Adrian Peterson should continue to be Adrian fucking Peterson.

WAS vs NO
Robert Griffin >>> Rex Grossman (does this even need to be pointed out)

I already mentioned that getting Vilma back is a huge boost, but I don't know how much he'll be able to do in the Gregg Williamsless defense. whatever go rg3

BUF vs NYJ
uhhhh tim tebow i guess?

seriously this is a boring ass game

NE vs TEN
shoutout to my other boy wes welker hopefully he'll be able to replicate last season

Gonna be a tough first game for Jake Locker considering Kenny Britt's suspension. At least he gets to throw against the Patriot's secondary lol

SEA vs ARI
This is where Russel Wilson needs to prove that he was the right choice over Matt Flynn. Personally I'm a bit skeptical, and Arizona kind of has Patrick Peterson to fuck him up, but we'll see.

SF vs GB
Easily the best game of the weekend competition-wise. The Packers got a lot better on defense, while the Niners shored up the offense. The biggest question is whether or not Alex Smith is going to be able to replicate his 2011 season, also known as his only good season.

CAR vs TB
I fucking love Luke Kuechly, and it's going to be fun to watch him make plays for a Panther's defense that desperately needs it. If Kuechly makes an impact and Cam Newton continues to be Cam Newton, it'll be a good year for the Panthers. As for the Buccaneers, who's coming to play: the 2010 Josh Freeman or the 2011 Rex Gross- er Josh Freeman.

PIT vs DEN
PEYTON MANNING ASDKOHGR(OIR#HGWEOIAGR

CIN vs BAL
Andy Dalton and AJ Green are going to have another ridiculous year. Joe Flacco, meanwhile, needs to do better than a ridiculously average year.

SD vs OAK
see: PHI vs CLE, replace michael vick with darren mcfadden

Also, how will Rivers do without Vincent Jackson?

man i'm so fucking excited is it tomorrow yet

I do not follow the NFL offseason very closely (I learn what I need to know week 1). I am going to assume that the Titans D held steady and that Patriots-Titans should be the game of the week though.

Interesting. Well, i have cable but my basic channels are this:

2: CBS
4: NBC
5: KTLA(show Raider games)
6: i forget(shows SEC college games..wtf?)
7: ABC
9: KCAL(shows Charger games, sometimes the Chager game is shown on CBS and the National Game here)
11: FOX

New York is exactly like LA and Giant games are shown locally. I guess it has to do with population?

You mean the Cowboys?

I love you. I've been saying it for a while but i think Brandon Weeden can be legit. The Browns have the defense, they just need the points.

this is the year mcfadden stays healthy and leads us to the playoffs i can feel it

and i really doubt weeden will have even a matt cassel-esque career. hes nothing special and extra years on a rookie quarterback have pretty much been proven to be worthless
