PSP/Vita

Meh, Vita seems too much like an iPod touch for me. Psp was fun (Birth by Sleep, Soul Calibur Broken Destiny, portable LBP), but I'd rather get a 3DS. That's just my two-cents-worth anyway.

Thinking of grabbing one of these and just wanted to gauge opinion on them.
MGS:HD and Uncharted are big draws for me and does anybody know the status of the Devil May Cry collection - like is that going ahead or what? And what is the extent of the PS Store functionality - can I download PSP or even PSOne games to it? Sorta in the dark here and have read conflicting stories so basically just asking is it worth picking one up?

As much as I like technology, the Vita is honestly a little underwhelming for me. Sure, it has a quad-core beast of a processor to deliver stunning graphics, but apart from that, I don't really see the Vita's niche. My 3DS is perfectly capable of delivering good quality graphics + 3D. It's the innovation in gameplay that keeps Nintendo's sales ticking, and that's clearly reflected in the 3DS.

The Vita just seems like a console that you can fit in your hands (an expensive console at that: the WiiU will launch at the same price as the 3G flavour). Even its specs aren't the best in the world, there are a legion of high-powered smartphones that easily trump the Vita's hardware, and phones have arguably more utility than the Vita ever will.

So in short, will I buy a Vita? I don't think so. I'm not a fan of Sony's franchise games either.

Yes, you can (both psp and pso games); if you access the psn store with the Vita the psp library is kinda small, but you can download psp games via ps3 (which has a larger library) and then upload them to the vita and you're good to go.

As for pso games, they keep adding more and more each week.

@shortstheory: vita is 100% focused on gaming. This means even if there are more powerful portable devices out there vita is still better suited to play games, not only because its hardware is focused on that, but mainly because of the interface (how many smartphones come with pad/dual sticks/ + shaped buttons and L/R?)

What do you mean they are adding more PsOne games? Those have stagnated ridiculously on the PS3 for 2 years now. Are they adding them specifically to the Vita?

I don't want to sound mean to Sony (I'm a fanboy) but we all know there's a lite version coming at soon, so I'm gonna wait. Otherwise hardware and software it meets my expectations with an A+.

Also, with PSOne games this machine will become the ultimate RPG handheld, so that's something Nintendo will never get.

I don't know since i don't have a ps3, but when they started allowing pso games to be played on vita the library was ridiculous -ie it only had FFVII- now it's been expanding at a fast rate -all of pso ff are available now-.

X5dragon: you're right, there are plenty of rpgs to play. Let's just hope for PS2 compatibility/library >_<

Well Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward is coming out for the Vita, but I'm planning on getting it for the 3DS and all....

So I don't have a PS Vita, but I have a PSP. Basically, what I'm wondering is if the PS Vita is still even alive in North America. I know it's still alive in Japan (but doing much worse than the 3DS), but is it even making any progress at all here?

Seriously, I looked on gamefaqs at the releases coming out soon and there's like one game coming out every couple of months here. They still haven't dropped the absurdly high price of $249.99, and you still have to buy a memory card separately, many of which are almost $50.

I recognize that the 3DS had a rough start too, but it honestly doesn't even seem like Sony is trying with the PS Vita, despite the fact that it's actually a really good portable. It feels like they're getting absolutely steamrolled by the 3DS...

I still feel like PS Vita has a chance, because the PSP started out terrible as well with absolutely no games. But I just figured that when a system has only been out for a year, they'd be releasing a lot more games at a much faster rate, especially since they should've learned from their mistakes from early on in the PSP's life.

Monster Hunter saved PSP and Capcom doesn't seem to be biting on Vita. Stay clear unless there's something you really want.

Honestly, the only game I'd really want for PS Vita right now is Persona 4 Golden. Other than that, no game really appeals to me...which is strange, because I thought this system was supposed to be like the RPG system.

It's just strange that Sony seems to almost be ignoring the PS Vita's existence. At least when the 3DS started out really rough, Nintendo tried to fix the issue and learned from their mistakes. I mean, the PS Vita is no N-Gage. It seems like a really good system, but I'm just confused as to why it's gotten pretty much no support at all.

Sony is busy building smartphones and PS4 now. They also have too many financial problems to face these little Vista issues
