You've probably heard that this little bit of sleek hardware called the Wii U has been released(if you haven't, I'm not sure whether to take you seriously or not.) It's Nintendo's next generation of hardware, that will be released all over the world by Christmas. It's biggest draw is that it has upgraded to meet, and in some cases surpass, Xbox 360 and PS3. It features 1080p HD graphics, increased third party support, and innovative two screen gameplay. Also, Nintendo continues to bring to the table the franchises that we love.

This thread is open to all Wii U discussion. This includes your opinions, games, the console, etc. Or, perhaps a better question, how many will break down and get one when the next game in their favorite franchise comes out?

My one gripe here is that Nintendo needs to get better at launch titles. I'm satisfied with Mario and Wonderful 101 though.

This is like, wayyyyy too expensive. Hopefully it'll lower its price before March or something. The graphics do look great, and I've had the pleasure to watch the New Super Mario Bros gameplay, it looks amazing. It's got a pretty horrible name for a console though, but I'm just being finicky.

New Super Mario Bros. U does look amazing. I'm definitely going to get when I pick mine up.
Meanwhile, I agree with your name gripe, but the name doesn't make the console, so oh well.

I'll probably end up buying one for smash/zelda when I have more money and the games actually come out, but until then you're paying $300 for wii and ds-quality games.

maybe when the price drops. i didn't get hyped up at all for the wii u anyway. i'll probably just get it for zelda.

though it is shiny

The Wii is shit and can't compete with Xbox 360 or PS3 even though it came out before them but that's just Nintendo thinking they're at an advantage by releasing a console early. So even if the Wii U can "meet" the Xbox 360 or PS3 (it definitely can't surpass them in any way) it will be another shitty, overpriced, glorified piece of family-friendly plastic and will be destroyed by the next generation Playstation and Xbox. Mario sucks, the new controller is a terrible idea, etcetera there is nothing good about the Wii U. Hopefully this time the worldwide dumbass consumers aren't uninformed enough to make Nintendo think that they've made a good console

as a person who worked at EB Games, now currently working at futureshop and has played the demo and hated the wii for various reason I'll disagree. It's quite fun for kids, teens and adults, has a good slew of games at launch, surpasses Xbox and PS3 in online with the new miiverse and has potential.

Yes it is late, yes the nextgen consoles will probably surpass it in many ways but for now it's actually pretty good.

I actually really like the controller, having played some games on it's got some nice originality to it and also flexibility allowing for game developers to use it as a tool for their game, allows the miiverse more personality (drawing fanart which is quite exceptional) and also allows the little kid to play his console while his parents are watching their TV show.

Mario is obviously not shit, it isn't some fad that survives a few years then dies, it's a consistent seller and game series which has its ups and downs. I myself am not buying it because I prefer PC over everything but still as a system itself it has potential.

Overall it's a good system, and surpasses/catches up to the Xbox 360 and the PS3 and has potential for the future.

I prefer PC over everything

Pretty much my opinion, though the DS is pretty close to PC for me. I can't make myself care about consoles anymore. I don't really care about the technical aspects, but there are rarely console exclusive games I like. Even for the multiplayer aspect, all of my friends have laptops we can play games together on, but one of them might not have a Wii or a 360 (the latter is laughable because I refuse to pay to play online).

That being said, the Wii U looks interesting and I hope to play on it, but I won't buy it because I doubt there will be a game to hold my lasting interest. The problem isn't launch titles, it's that the quality of third party games on the Wii was largely complete shit with few exception.

In spite of there being a few years without good third party support, the brevity of the Wii's initial run far outclassed the shit we got on PS3/Xbox until the year 2009. Leaving this generation, if you can't see the forest of great games such as Trauma Center, Wario Ware, Monster Hunter Tri, No More Heroes, Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Donkey Kong Country Returns, the best Mario game ever Super Mario Galaxy, the best Zelda in a decade Skyward Sword, and the best versions of Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4, through the casual game trees, then the only apt word for you is philistine.

Still, gonna wait to see what is coming out for the WiiU before buying it.

I wasn't planning on getting one any time soon, but as someone who has gotten literally all of their video from online sources for going on 10 years now, TVii had me very tempted.

But now it's delayed so I'll be waiting.

How does "hardware is much more powerful" equal "can't surpass them in any way"?

I don't even like the Wii U (probably never getting one at this rate) but you just have to be a completely ignorant hater to think the thing doesn't completely overpower the 360 and PS3 by a large margin.

It features 1080p HD graphics, increased third party support, and innovative two screen gameplay.

don't get your hopes up lol.

third party support = shitty ports of current gen consoles that run at 20 fps.

"1080p graphics" = native 720p upscaled

innovative two screen gameplay = yeah, no. i'll stick to the pro controller.

the wii-u has a horribly slow cpu, 2 gigs of ram clocked at 800 mhz (which is more than current gen systems but much, much slower) and an okay gpu. it doesn't "completely overpower" current gen systems.

Too late, they're already up.

Anyone here but me actually think that the gamepad is a unique, genuinely cool concept? I'm actually looking forward to it. Also, by saying that you will use one kind of controller over the other, you lead people to think that you will get a Wii U, and you will use the pro controller when you get it.

I never said I wasn't buying one, I pointed out why it's weaker or "on par" with current systems.

I already LOVE my Wii U! I was skeptical of the Pad when it was introduced, but after I got my hands on it back in September, I was sold. My Wiimotes ain't going to waste either! Miiverse is great and finally all four video apps are up and running. Black Ops II is great (even on the Pad) and Nintendo Land is gonna be a blast tomorrow!

Looking forward to the new gen starting with this thing! And looking forward to the eventual Zelda, Metroid, and of course, the exclusive Bayonetta 2!

I think I will wait for a price drop and the release of a Zelda and Smash Bros game, so that'll probably be a year or two until I get my WiiU. For now, my current-gen Wii and PS3 serve me just fine.

i love nintendo and their gimmicks, but this is a bit too much for me. i think i'll pass, at least until they release the new smash bros.

I expect it to be used as an alternate way to get smashes, similar how you had that option with the WiiMote, at least I hope that is all.

My life died a little yesterday. I found out that Mario punches bricks instead of headbutting them.

For this reason alone, I will not be getting the New Super Mario Bros.
