Serious Relationships and Sex Ed Thread

I'd say the half plus seven rule is a good rule of thumb through your teens, twenties, and early thirties (if she's half your age plus seven years, it's acceptable/not creepy). I think there's times when it's acceptable to disregard the rule, but for the most part an age difference greater than that seems likely to cause problems in the relationship. People tend to want different things and to have different worldviews at different stages in their lives, and that can cause friction in the relationship if partners aren't on the same page.

according to the half plus 7 rule, lowest I can go is 19, fuck that

if shes legal i pull out my eagle4

kacaw

This rule is alright, but don't be so strict if you don't follow it. I myself love a girl who's one year below that rule.

I've broken it a few times myself. I'd say it's a bit more important for relationships than it is for hookups, but even then it's sometimes acceptable to ignore.

no because the eight year old can only hook up with eleven year olds or older.

in fact the rule doesn't start working until you're 14 years old but if you're younger than that then wtf in the first place

edit: was the xkcd about this the one that started the rule or just where i personally know it from

I'm loving the puns

if there's no grass on the field go around back and play in the mud has always been my favorite

Is it illegal to have sex with a (insert anything between 13-17) year old (assuming you're an adult) if she throws herself at you? What if you have no idea she's even underage?
Are you obligated to be the 'mature party' and turn her down if you do know?

yeah even if she says she's 18 but whoops she's actually not, you can get charged with statutory rape. bullshit i know but :/ My state actually has some pretty lenient statutory rape laws where like, 16-21 years old can all have sex with each other. it's stepped by age or something

just play it safe i guess is the moral here.

Unless by "throws herself at you" you mean "forcibly rapes you" you're still in the wrong. And as Pwnemon said there are certain exceptions to statutory rape laws depending on a few factors. For instance, where I live it's legal for an 18 year old to have sex with someone up to 2 years younger than them if they're still in high school. Giggity

Legal age is the bottom limit. End of discussion.

So legality is the final stance on any issue for you? Regardless of culture? To be honest, a lot of laws are pretty arbitrary and terrible. Who says 18 is the legal age? What is the difference between 17 and 18? Why not make the legal age 19? Why should you have to be 21 to drink alcohol? Why not 20? Why not 50? To base your ethics solely on the laws of where you live seems like a feeble minded way to live.

I'm pretty sure in England, if you have sex with anybody under 16 you've committed statuary rape. When I was 16, I had consensual sex with my then girlfriend of 15 (I was like 2 months older than her) and I technically could be sentenced for rape. However if a girl of 16 has sex with a boy who's 15 that's only indecent assault. Pretty silly discrimination in my opinion.

As for the youngest age, I'm currently in year 13 (is that 12th Grade? last year of school anyway) and I think I'd only be comfortable going a couple of years younger than me. Maybe even just one year, idk. I wouldn't like to be with a year 10 (9th Grade?) as I don't think that a lot of people that age are ready or mature enough to be involved in a sexual relationship.

Yes, laws are imperfect, but they're a great guideline for a few reasons. This isn't smoking pot - it's not a victimless misdemeanor you're breaking, but a felony sex offense. Is a 17 year old worth ruining your life for?

And while I'm not exactly FOR an arbitrary high number that makes some relationships Okay and others a Disgusting Mismatched Power Dynamic, there's pretty clearly some logic to the idea that someone in their mid 20s shouldn't be fucking high schoolers.

I think the best solution is a reasonable age of consent with a buffer zone for when both parties are underage, or when one party is under a certain higher age and the other is under the hard limit.

this really isn't a hard concept to grasp - older people fucking children and young teens more often than not exploit their naivete and are at best kinda gross

chiming in to say that 40 year olds fucking 19 year olds is gross, I'm 20 and I don't even like dating 19 year olds, I don't understand these relationships at all.

Why? Is dating someone around 12 months younger than you gross?

In my opinion if two people are above the age of consent and are happy to be fucking I am happy for them to go at it, regardless of age. If people wanna fuck (legally) they can do whatever the hell they want.

Yes like most things, legality is the last word on morality.
There's nothing morally wrong with me having consensual sex with a seventeen year old.
Is it illegal?
in some places.

come on brammi you had some stellar posts in this thread why'd you have to go full retard on me?

man fuck all this law shit

just stick it in her pussy and dip nigga

Nailed it

I agree that relationships between individuals with large gaps in their ages do tend to lead to issues, differences in desires in the relationships and maturity gaps etc. However, I've met kids who are better spoken and of more sound mind then 35 year olds. Although maturity generally correlates to age, it doesn't always. When I was in high school a friend of mine started dating this mid 20 something chick. Illegal? Yes (I think). Did they have a meaningful relationship? absofuckenlutely, they're still together four years later, today. He was pretty mature for his age, and she had a bubbly youth about her. They meshed beautifully despite the 8+ year difference.

And that's not saying anything about one night stands/casual sex/nostringsattached/etc. I believe that at the age of 15, I could decide to do with my body what I wanted. If that included sex, whoopdy fuckin do, I don't think it's any of the governments fucking business who I have sex with, or what their age is. Maybe I was mature for my age, and maybe it's for the best that laws are cut and dry about this shit. As cim said the majority of it is going to be older males taking advantage of younger females who aren't using to receiving attention. Protect the general population and all that.
Does that mean you should base your morals on that shit, and blanket it all without any further thought? Fuck no.

Not going too far into the laws behind statutory rape; suffice it to say, every American State has set its own age of consent. You may have sex legally with your girlfriend in Alabama, then travel to New York and be violating the law. It's arbitrary at best.

40 on 13 though? Pretty simple to see that isn't coming from a position of affection, but rather a position of power.

No, two 16 year olds are not raping each other. Statutory rape does not allow people OVER a certain age to have sex with one UNDER that age. If both are over or under, the law does not apply. This is similar to drunken sex in that a drunk person cannot give consent, so you are technically raping them. Unless you're both drunk, then it just kinda cancels out.
