Well Subbing is best when you have 4x+1 HP and it turns out a LV 100 Pupitar with 31 IV in HP (which has 70 base HP, like a Magnezone does) will have 281 HP. I love you Netbattle.

Yep, I didn't put any HP EV's on that guinea pig of a Pupitar...

...though you could always add to your Magnezone-to-be some HP EV's in groups of 16 if you feel the need for them.

if a pokemon is holding a burn orb and it has guts. once the burn orb is activated will the guts ability cancel the attack drop from the burn?

How does evolving to Rhyperior affect Rhydon's ability? Will Rock Head always become Solid Rock, or is there a 50% chance of it becoming Lightingrod as well? I ask because I'm breeding Rhyhorns and want to know what ability I should be looking for.

Rock Head always turns into Solid Rock if you're breeding Rhyhorns in DP. You're out of luck if you're doing it in Emerald, though, considering how weird Pal Park is with abilities.

It's 100% chance Rock Head will become Solid Rock, unless you've transfered it as a Rhydon. Then there's a 50% chance that it will become a Lightningrod Rhyperior.

Does anyone know the stats of the poffin the guy gives you in the contest hall?

It's a Mild Poffin. Lv60, Smooth 40. Might be reversed on the numbers, though.

Cool. I traded a Rhyhorn over specifically so that I wouldn't have to worry about Pal Park weirdness. Thanks.

Yes, I knew that, but I'm wondering about the flavor levels (as in how much it will raise each stat)

how is this bronzong moveset and EVS?

Bronzong@Leftovers
Relaxed
EV: 252 Hp, 152 Atk, 67 Sp Atk, 24 Sp Def, 15 Def
Levitate
Grass Knot
Gyro Ball
Hypnosis
Earthquake

Gyro Ball for the major damage it does as mine got 4 Speed IVS. Grass Knot to pwn Rhyperior as it cant hurt this beast. Rest for healing aromatherapy and Hypnosis for sleep. New physical tank and Earthquake to help pwn Magnezone. Still not sure about EVS. Also I got Reflect/Light Screen and Stealth Rock covered on my other pokes.

Got couple of questions.

1) What does STAB stand for? I know it means that if a Pokemon uses an attack with the same type as the Pokemon it will get multiplied by 1.5, but I want to know what does STAB represent ?

2) Does getting a perfect IV really matters? Would a difference of 4 IVs really affect the outcome of a battle?

3) Last night I was going through some damage calculations using MetalKid 's calculator and something made me curious. Why when I get the attack damage, it's usually a range of points? Shouldn't the attack damage be constant all the time?

Thanks in advance.

Should i use this? or should i keep breeding?

Skarmory - #227 (Impish)
HP: 25 - 29
Att: 25 - 29
Def: 25 - 29
SpA: 20 - 24
SpD: 15 - 19
Speed: 15 - 19

I'm pretty torn here, I've got what seems to be a pretty good set of parents, but if i keep re-breeding i cant decide who to use as the mother.
(Speed Last)
Father: 27/27/30/30/17/27
Mother1:12/26/22/7 /26/27
Mother2:12/17/30/30/22/27
Mother3:22/12/30/22/12/27

So what is it? should i re-breed or use this one? and if i re-breed which female should i use?

STAB means Special Type Attack Boost
2) Does getting a perfect IV really matters? Would a difference of 4 IVs really affect the outcome of a battle?
Yes because it makes a diff of maxing a stat to give you a advantage over the enemy

No because theres a min damage and a max damage that it wuld work.

Thanks in advance.

Same Type Attack Bonus.

Sometimes, yes, especially in Speed. Generally, however, it seems that an IV of 25 and above is considered decent. A higher IV may also mean that you need less EV for the stat to have a desired value, so you can use those EV to boost another stat.

The tail end of the damage formula is a multiplier that takes a random value between 0.85 and 1, so with all other variables the same, damage may still vary slightly. Moves that cause fixed damage such as Dragon Rage or Night Shade do not take that multiplier into account.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Dangit, beaten to it. I must type faster.

What are these damage calculators I keep hearing about?

An application that lets you simulate the effect of a Pokemon attack. You input data such as the attacking and defending Pokemon, the attack used, the stats of both combatants and any bonuses from items, moves, weather etc and the application tells you how much damage the attack is expected to inflict. This lets you see, for example, if a Pokemon/moveset can OHKO or 2HKO a Pokemon you consider a threat.
