Media Metalheads Thread III

Ever get that feeling that Power Metal would be really fucking great if it wasn't so fucking bad?

At least it has that "So bad it's good thing" going for it too.

I just think power metal can be a lot of fun to listen to every now and then, even though it can be super cheesy like Rhapsody of Fire is. For some reason I also enjoy the guitars in general on power metal, since they tend to be more difficult and technical.

isn't that the whole point of power metal, to be ridiculous? makes a dreary day better imo, i definitely dig some iced earth once in a while. prophecy/birth of the wicked/the coming curse off alive in athens just makes me feel good, man.

i like trap them's darker handcraft a lot. i think every walk a quarantine is the best song though :toast:

I'm not really a fan of Meshuggah, but I love Bleed mostly because of this

seriously amazing
tomas haake is a fucking monster

In Death - Is Life into In Death - Is Death into Shed was fucking transcendental.
catch 33 is their best album!

power metal
if you like this sort of stuff, check out kalmah - the black waltz. excellent blend of power / melodic death metal.

I'm kind of a new-comer to metal (always listened to hard rock/nu-metal before) but I've been listening to machine head and children of bodom mostly lately, loving them.

Putting that aside, any thrash metal recommendations ?

the first 3 CoB albums are all you need. especially Hatebreeder.

Putting that aside, any thrash metal recommendations ?
how have none of you guys recommended Slayer's Reign In Blood yet?! jesus

also worth checking out are:

kreator - pleasure to kill
metallica - master of puppets
massacra - final holocaust (death/thrash hybrid)

and my personal favorite,
meshuggah - destroy erase improve

megadeth is overrated

megadeth is overrated

everything up to Rust In Peace is amazing

I have a lot of death/thrash on my iTunes but I'm not on my computer right now so I can't remember a lot of it. Here are a couple of my favorites off the top of my head, though:

This is some pretty sick progressive metal; I really enjoyed the drums in this song throughout, especially in the beginning though. I'm also really digging Sybreed's later stuff too.

Assuming you haven't heard them already.

Testament Albums: The Legacy, The New Order, Souls of Black.
Anthrax Albums: Among the Living, Sound of White Noise.

megadeth is overrated

If I could facepalm any harder my hand would go through my skull. List the most overrated band and album pairing possible.. then say another band is overrated.

slayer is overrated. reign in blood isn't.

megadeth is just... idk. i dig them, yeah, but i think they are considered better than they actually are.

also! i can't believe i like this sort of thing but dark age are this sort of hybrid between melodic death and pop metal... i know it sounds like garbage but they somehow pull it off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=un_R6waaA8A

Haven't seen anyone post about djent (bar meshugahh) yet so thought I'd post some. :) threw in some prog metal too or whatever you want to call it, I was never one for incredibly specific genres anyway

Couldn't find one of the songs ($) on youtube so figured his bandcamp sufficed: http://cloudkicker.bandcamp.com/track/--6

I'm gonna take the time to introduce a tangent to what's been shown so far: power metal!

Most people who are into power metal know the above band, Rhapsody of Fire, and this is arguably their best song too. But their are many great power metal bands out there, like Galneryus, Iced Earth and Dragonforce and I definitely suggest you check those guys out.

Power of the Dragonflame and Dawn of Victory are equal to it imo :pimp:
