2012/2013 Soccer/Football thread

I only said that he'd come to Chelsea beacause reports said that City had agreed a deal with Atletico for Falcao.

Bale is demanding 200,000 per week wages to stay at Tottenham after they missed out on CL.

I don't get how Liverpool are always tipped for the title 'in a few years'. Didn't most ppl and pundits say Liverpool were gonna challenge for the title after Dalglish took over and spent that £100mil on players? Every few years they're apparantly onto great things but it's not as easy as that.

Don't get me wrong I liked Liverpool's style this season and I've said many times how I like some of their players, but they don't have anywhere near the depth of squad compared to even Tottenham. They're about on par with Everton in terms of team and squad quality imo and they'll need many more top midfielders, defenders, wingers and probably a goalie too if they wanna challenge for the title. Nobody is standing still, City and Chelsea will probably spend a country's worth of wealth on players again, and Utd have huge resources too. And despite what ppl say Arsenal's squad is probably healthier than at any time in a good while, if a top quality forward or two can be added then it will be really tough for Liverpool to keep up nevermind overtake any of them. And even Tottenham have added many new faces in recent years and have a pretty big squad now of decent players - Sigurdsson, Dempsey, Holtby, Dembele, the list goes on... Liverpool have Countinho, Gerrard, Henderson? Sterling? They'll need to build and be patient that's for sure, it's not gonna happen anytime soon.

Liverpool are somewhere between Spurs and Everton imo. But Liverpool > Bale-less Spurs any day.

just wondering if any chelsea fans are going to apologise for their treatment and criticism of Rafa Benitez? 3rd place in the league and a Europa League triumph isn't bad at all considering he took over mid-season and had to contend with the constant heckling of his own fans. top bloke.

Chelsea fans should be apologizing that their owner is a complete retard and didn't keep Di Matteo. But yeah they're not gonna apologize for anything if Mourinho indeed returns.

I never really hated Benitez tbh and I actually thought that he could help us reclaim first spot when he arrived and we were four points behind United. I was disappointed at how everything went downhill from when he took over but he somehow managed to steady the ship, ensured that Chelsea qualified for CL and that they did not finish the season trophyless despite insensitively being branded "interim manager." At the end of the season, I can say that he did a really good job considering that the squad he had to work with wasn't exactly his and nor was he given the freedom to sign players during he January transfer window to remedy that. He'll do well wherever he goes next.

The ones who were slinging insults at him daily won't apologize. Honestly, the Chelsea fans on smogon are alright but I have to admit that the set of supporters I hate the most have to be the Chelsea ones.

The thing that annoys me the most is that they decided to vent their frustration at Rafa instead of Abramovic who was the one that was actually responsible for the sacking of Di Matteo. They wouldn't dare abuse Abramovic because if he left they'd turn back into the shit club that they were.

The big question for me is whether Rafa could have made them join the title race rather than the race to the top 4, if the fans didn't abuse him so much. The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge was poisonous, the players were affected and it showed in their terrible home form at the beginning of Rafa's reign.

I feel bad for Rafa with the ridiculous abuse he got but let's not go overboard here, he did a decent job and that's that. Chelsea strengthened their squad immensely and generated the kind of excitement where early season every pundit going was tipping them for the title, Benitez couldn't even secure second place. He did a good job in that he won the Europa League and had a decent run in the cups but nobody would have believed you if you said they'd be fighting Arsenal and Tottenham for a CL place. He did well, didn't deserve the abuse, but it was the bare minimum probably.

Speaking of Europa League, they're considering giving the winner a CL place. They should have done this from the start because it makes an awful lot of sense and would make the Europa League not a washed up dead end competition and actually make teams want to be in it! I really hope they go through with it.

Lol! And lol at Charlie Adam - manages 2 fouls before he makes a successful tackle.

Um, HBK, it would be nice if you stopped slagging off Man United fans in India. Yes, there are a fair few posers. But I can say the same about Chelsea fans.

THE SAME? There are hardly any Chelsea fans here or those of any other club for that matter. Every living soul here calls themselves a United fan and watches shit like cricket all the time. It just pisses me off.
