Ahh, I see. So you have 6 in your party which your opponent can see and then you pick three which you believe are best suited to beating your opponent?

    Is it like Pokemon Stadium?

There are 2 areas where the tournament battle occurs.

One area has 4 stations each station has2 DSlites connected together. You go in, put in your game card and go into wireless play, standard cup. Neither players get to see each other's pokemon beforehand.

The second area has only 1 station, but one of the DSlites is connected to a giant screen for everyone to see. However, only the top screen is projected. This DSlite will be the "leader" when creating the game. The 'joiner' will connect, and choose their pokemon while you wait. Once the joiner's pokemon has been chosen, you select your pokemon. Everyone can see what pokemon you choose, including your opponent because the top screen is on the large TV. Like normal you choose your 3 pokemon and the battle starts. This gives the joiner a slight advantage as they can plot strategies against the 3 pokemon you use before hand.

Thanks for the heads-up. How exactly do they check your cartridge?

So sorely tempted to take Friday 20 off..at least I've got a good two weeks to prepare*

Jusmastra's right. Before you start your first round they take your DS card, check whether it's in a pokemon centre, the pokemon you use etc. They had mine for about a minute before they returned it.

How many Pokemon are you guys planning to take? I'm going to it in 3 days, and I have 3. If it's like Stadium, I'm wondering whether to get some other members without great IV's, or just use dummies to make the opponent plan for the members I'll never use.

You only need 3 pokemon. However, many have a team of 6 so they have a choice when it comes to choosing pokemon. You don't really see the opponent's pokemon beforehand, so it won't really help.

Well, no-one's confirmed what we're using to fight with yet. It's implied that you register six but play with three, so I guess I'll register six (one of which will be an oddish).

If they just check with a DS instead of anything special then it should be feasible to shark, which certainly takes a lot of time away from preparation.

As long as the pokemon in your team comply with the rules, it should be fine. The registration process at the start is pretty much taking down your name, address, contact numbers and email addresses so they can spam you with sms's and what not. When they actually start you hand in your registration form and they give you a connection tour pass, and if you are competing you'll have an entrant number written on it.
As for sharking, it might be feasible. We really need someone who sharked and attended the tournament to find out, don't we?

Is there no Sleep Clause, or is that automatically enforced by the rules of the Cup (much like in Stadium)?

Pretty much if your pokemon can be entered in a 1v1 wireless single battle standard cup game, then you will be able to use them. I saw gengar with the hypnosis+dream eater combo, but I never saw a time where more than one pokemon was asleep at a time.
Woo massive post. ah well.
