Pokémon XY General Discussion

It depends entirely on the evolution they make for it. Of course it can't get any worse than Luvdisc or Farfetch'd so them outshining there evolution would be rather slim but your missing the point. It's that some pokemon could end up being on par or surpassing there evolution. Which defeats the purpose of an evolution in the first place.
There are very few Pokemon that are outclassed by their pre-evos (only Dusknoir comes to mind and sometimes Blissey) and i think that by now GF would know very well what evos to give to what Pokemon in order to not make the pre-evo better. It's really not that hard, provided you try even a little, so introducing MegaEvos for this reason would be a lame ass excuse.

Okay okay, maybe I got a bit carried away with the whole overshadowing there evolutions thing. It's just a theory anyway, I honestly can't think of any other reasoning as to why they wouldn't just give these pokemon a final evolution.

What if the reason you can have only one mega evolution is because that Pokemon has to be your last available in a fight?
I wouldn't expect it, but just a thought

They made a point of saying things like "Changing type in the middle of battle...." and how the transformation sticks if switched, so probably not

Shuckle won't be holding Eviolite unless it gets a real evolution. Mega evolution is only temporary, and powered by a hold item. Shuckle can't evolve, so it can't gain any benefit from eviolite.

MegaMawile is sounding quite appealing with a Steel/Fairy typing + D/SpD boost + Huge Power. If it retains base 85 attack, Huge Power will send it through the roof. I'm a bit worried about the battle condition for transformation though. After what they did with Zen Mode Darmanitan..

My reenactment of the trailer :p

Also , Mawile having MORE Def & Sp.Def gives me a Tornadus-T feeling in my heart...which means...MegaMawile just might be TOO STRONG too from competitive and will be banned to Ubers...BUT WE'LL SEE!

I dunno how I feel about this Blaziken event. If Fennekin's evo is even slightly lame I dont see anyone picking it over a Megablaziken. Hell even I have my doubts even though I was originally going to pick Fennekin.

Dude, I don't think Torchic is going to be available until after you complete the Pokedex. You can still pick Fennekin to your heart's content. I just think the Torchic event starts being available on the 12th so those few people who manage to blitz through the main game in <24 hours don't have to wait for the event.

You often forget that MegaMawile loses Intimidate and the item slot will be obsessed by Mawilite, so it is unable to wear Leftovers, Life Orb or Chesto Berry. Sure, MegaMawile has great offensive stats then, but its poor speed and common weaknesses (Fire, Ground, perhaps Fighting) let it still be very frail and difficult to use outsido of Trick Room or Baton Pass teams in my opinion.

i cant remeember a single event that had those sort of regulations so i dunno itll probs be available from the start

I think the point of the distribution will be to let players test out Megaevos as soon as the game is released. So the torchic might be available in the beginning of the game.
Hasn't this gone on long enough?I am tired of discussing about MEGA EVOLUTIONS.(Change of topic please)

Yeah, this. I remember when I got pokemon white 2 (actually not *that* long ago) during the Deoxys event, when I learned about it I had only gotten 2 gym badges. But all the same, I was still able to get the level 100 event deoxys before I even faced Castelia gym @_@
Obviously I didn't use it through the main quest, cause it would've just ruined the game. But you can definitely get event pokes from as soon as the wifi thingy in the game is enabled. Unless they do introduce some weird restriction. But eh.

yeah and same happened with me in gs with mew and with bw2 and genesect and also what the other guy said before this should help promote it having it frim the start i highly doubt there being restrictionson it

I never had an event Pokemon before. Do you just download it via wifi from the ds? Can someone explain please. Sorry being off-topic.

Anyway, I notice on the official Pokemon x and y website that they are placing a lot of emphasize on base stat. Never before I believe they did this. Even acknowledging things such as Mewtwo has high special attack and Lucario has high in both attacking stats. They seem to be getting more competitive based. Also, if you read the description for Blazikenite there is no mention of a boost to stat so it's not like a evolite which boosts stats, so Mega-stones are just a hinderince to hold.

Mega Blaziken is getting me excited for Mega Sceptile! The Treecko line is my favorite design out of the third generation starters. I chose Treecko in my first playthrough, then restarted with Mudkip/Swampert since it was more competitively viable at that time. I hope we get to have Treecko as a event Pokemon later on or even in-game. Also wishing for Mega-Sceptile to get an awesome ability so it can be competitively viable.

My only problem with mega evolution for single or two stage pokemon is the uncertainty of wether or not they will still get normal evolutions. For instance design wise mega mawile looks perfect for a second stage mawile evo. The same goes for absol, kangaskhan and lucario. If getting a mega evolution means that that particular pokemon family is done(no more evolutions ever) then I really hate the mega evolutions as a concept. If it turns out that pokemon like mawile and absol can still get evolutions the normal way either now or in the future then I'm ok with mega-evolutions. That is why I'm hopping that at least one of the pokemon families(mawile , khangaskhan, absol, lucario or others) will be getting an evolution this generation. This is the 6th generation after all! Where are my "permanent" evolutions for one stage and two stage pokemon families?

Some new info off the official site:

Dedenne can learn Nuzzle, a new move debuting in Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. Nuzzle may look cute, but it's quite dangerous! It will do damage while paralyzing the target.
Possibly a low-BP, high chance of paralyzing move?

Will we finally be able to jump small trees and ledges? Well, of course not.

Mawile's Defense and Special Defense will go up sharply.
And yes, Huge Power. Perhaps we're looking at the future most used Mega Pokemon in competitive battles. Also, Mawile has officially been confirmed to be Steel/Fairy.

According to the real pokemon site, MegaMawile has more def and spdef and huge power.
85 base attack with huge power and a defense boost acces to good moves and sword dance might be bit op as well as the already ubers blaziken getting a megalution :S

MegaMawile is going to get such a massive boost from this. Pulling a Blaziken and jumping to Ubers is probably out of the question, but OU seems nice hehe

All for the Gen III master race

Remember guys, their definition of sharply boosting the defenses, and ours, are two different things. Mawile's defenses are 50/85/55, so even with a major "boost", I don't see my favorite mega going any higher than UU, especially with no real item.

Well, after Tornadus-T alleged defense boost (+10 to base defenses, with the real defensive boost being Regenerator), we cannot expect that much. It may probably still be frail on the special side

Maybe +20 to base defenses?

I'd gladly take the 2nd highest attack stat in the entire game over Intimidate. Not to mention OU 6v6 isn't the only relevant tier. This thing could be a monster in VGC.

It's the highest Attack in the entire game. Even with a Jolly nature it's higher than Deoxys-A's max Attack (538 vs 508)
