Pokémon XY General Discussion

@S0L1D G0LD and @Korlashh
The berries bothered me more than any Full Restore ever did, at least the potion use is obvious.

Anyways, we've seen Fennekin2 pull the stick out, so it's not imbued into her skin at least.

I just thought about the twig in Fennekin's evolution. What if it's meant for it's final form to hold a lanturn or some kind of paper incantations? Or it could disappear when it evolves like Spoink's ball when it goes as soon as it evolves or Clampearl's pearl when it evolves into Gorebyss/Huntail.

"Burn the witch!"
"We can't, she's a Fire Type!"
"Wait! How do we know she's a witch?"
*Group stands around puzzled*
"Well, how can we tell if she's a witch?"
"If she floats!"
"And do you why she floats?"
*Silence*
"Because she's made of wood?"
"Yes! And do you know what else floats?"
*Group stands around puzzled*
*Silence*
*New person arriving on scene* "A duck!"
*Group murmurs in surprise and agreement*
"Yes, so we shall compare her weight with that of a duck, and unless she's heavier, she's a witch!"

A cookie to anyone who know what I'm referencing. (I haven't seen it in a while, so this may not be too accurate.)

Weirdest thing/best thing for me about Gen VI is that I will actually buy the official guidebooks for a game for the first time since Pokemon Yellow. I know nothing about the Kalos Pokemon. I know no numbers. My favorite type combo, Fire/Flying, is finally on a non-legendary bird. I am psyched as all hell.

EDIT: Sorry, Charizard, but I'm not really a fan of leezards. :P

One thing that interests me and I haven't seen brought up - how does the improvement of Fire as a Defensive Type bode for all defensively built Fires that have languished for years and years? Fire's benefiting both from resisting fairy and resisting the now much more prominent Steel offense. Even though I didn't like having Fire/Fighting three times in a row, that was mostly because I thought Emboar (and the other two Unova starters) was mechanically designed in a superficial way. I'm sure that they're not all magically shooting up to OU, but I feel like the defensive and wall-built Fire types are a little bit more interesting and have a bit more legitimacy now in all aspects of play.

It'd be kinda twisted/funny if Fennekin ended in the same boat as Golduck and despite learning a lot of psychic attacks isn't part psychic.

blahblahblah rumors say Fire/Psychic blahblahblah...It'd still be funny in a vacuum.

I have a feeling they might do that too. Perhaps to be really troll-y they'll do that with all of them.

The defensive capabilities of defensive fire as an archetype is still moot as long as Stealth Rock exists or more ways to deal with hazards arise.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail, natch.
"But if she uses Gravity, she won't float, and we won't be able to tell if she's a witch."
EDIT: Where's my cookie?

That's very kind of you.

Well, it looks like for once the game guides will actually be useful, as they provide a way to see a Pokemon's movepool, type, ability, evolution(s), evolution method, and a rough way to figure out an approximate of a Pokemon's base stats, as well as a way to see new moves and abilities, and a way to find out what any new TMs or tutor moves are.

Well, Heatran will probably appreciate its new resistance, even though it has to lose two in exchange, and maybe Fire will see more value as a defensive type throughout all tiers. Plus, in Ubers, Reshiram will be laughing at its Fairy-weak brethren, as its once crappy (defensively) secondary typing now provides it with a coveted neutrality to Fairy, something only Dialga can also boast.

My view on the starters types as of second evo

Chespin: Rock/Grass ( Rock type really plays well with the whole armor pokemon thing and mus shot though being ground type can still be learned by rock types so that's chespin)

Fennekin:Physcic/Fire ( you can really see it being based on a witch with its broom tail and fur dress also he learns to many physcic moves to not be physic)

Froakie: water/flying ( I bold flying because I'm not really sure gamefreak would do that but his cloud like bubbles and wispy demeanour just strike me as a flying type)

Also he likes the T-Rex fossil and garchomps new badass scythe hands

For singles 6-on-6, I definitely agree, but I think up 'til now Fire's just been blah defensively all-around, even in formats where SR isn't part of the equation (or at least not as bad). I think it might be usable for defense more often in Battle Tower format, the story mode, and all the various and sundry alternate modes.

What about Charizard, the sixth Pokemon in existence?

Emphasis on "bird." I don't really like dragons or scaly things, though I admit a fondness for a few.

Ooh. Good point on Reshi. This may be the gen I finally get into trying Ubers for so many reasons.~

Has anyone thought about TrollFreak changing the starters evo typings DUE to the leaks? Chespin is becoming a knight (grass/steel) fennekin is a witch (fire/dark? psychic? ghost?) and froakie is a ninja (water dark? fighting?). Merp sorry if someone has mentioned this I dont check the thread often

Is this even plausible idk

It's been using a few Psychic moves in trailers, so it's pretty safe to say it will probably be Fire/Psychic.

True, but remember...we still do not know its final typing. For all we know, it could possibly be a Fairy type...but in all seriousness, I do agree that it probably will be a Fire/Psychic type.

I don't think so. The most important pokemon of every generation are probably the mascot legendaries tied with the starters - legendaries show off the badass and frame the story, while the starters essentially introduce new people to pokemon and also (Gen III+) frequently carry signature moves that show off some of Game Freak's newest design philosophies for the game. This is doubly true after the lukewarm reaction the Gen V starters received from both the casual and competitive ends of the community. GF most likely designed the hell out of these starters months ago for what they think is perfection and are not touching them just to screw with us.

They do their trolling on things that don't matter so much; Fire/Fighting 3 gens in a row probably owes more to them wanting to emulate the popularity of Blaziken and Infernape on the cheap than "lol troll them".

Are you suggesting that they completely rehauled the Kalos starters' types, one of the most integral parts of early-to-mid gameplay (as the types of your starter can significantly affect the difficulty curves), just because of a leak that they haven't seemed to pay any attention to otherwise? Seems unlikely to me...

And if they are listening to leaks and stuff, then i really want my stained-glass ice moth from back in the whole Mr. XY fiasco.

They could have improved said reaction by releasing their hidden abilities...

Obviously its origin is mixed, but you have to look no further than Mismagius' hat to realize its physical appearance draws inspiration directly from witches.
Right, but it's shriek drives people mad, and it torments people. I do believe it has a mixed origin, though, as no one concept comes through stronger then the other(s) to me.

I'm quite obsessed with Teeruna(but I will always be Team Chespin, especially since Chespiñata is so CUTE). I'ma call it Fenwick until it gets officially revealed, props if you know what that comes from.

I know it was already stated, but in one of the screenshots of Fenwick in CoroCoro, you can kind of make out the image of her waving the stick and summoning a fire! The stick/wand's ruddy shape reminds me of how wands used to be in literature, where they were essentially just a plain old stick taken off of an old tree with a long history, and then either turned into a device through which magic-folk could channel their witchery, or it was given magical properties of its own. It seems that, upon evolution, Fennekin has discovered a special stick among it's snacks through which it can amplify its powers. Fenwick keeps it resting in her tail for storage so she doesn't develop carpal tunnel by holding it everywhere she goes.
And yeah, when Fenwick is idling, it makes her tail look kind of like a broom with too much straw, or an oversized paintbrush.

This all gets me really intrigued to see what Finalkin will be, especially when they still have a chance to do something interesting with the ear tufts.

It'll probably look like alakazam, 2 sticks held by its ear hair and 2 on its hands. Description of finalkin be like, the sticks amplify finalkin's power.
