It is not a mindless offensive buff because strong priority helps revenge kill offensive Pokemon, giving to Cloyster some utility if it doesn't manage to set up.water shuriken on something with skill link sounds like a "mindless offensive buff" to me
electric/dark luxray
Besides, what does dark do for luxray besides STAB crunch? It gives it resistances, but that's the main goal as far as I can tell so that seems more contrary to theorymon to me.
Just giving some reasoning why I suggested that retype in the first place, A Flying resist and Ghost resist is especially useful this gen, especially one with Intimidate. With only HP investments, it switches safely into Aegislash as Sacred Sword still fails to 2HKO without a boosting item, Talonflame locked in Brave Bird, and Pinsir with a Balloon. Even +2 (+3 with Intimidate) Bisharp fails to KO while Superpower cleanly OHKOs. Deoxys-S and Thundurus both fails to 2HKO with LO Superpower and their main STAB are ineffective or resisted respectively. Hence it turns out to check some of the most top tier pokemons thanks to the combination of typing and ability, which seems to be good to have. Luxray is mostly previously outclassed by the multitude of Electric types in the tier, but being able to manhandle most notably Deoxys-S and Aegislash is a nice thing to have.
All right, all right, I guess I'm just sick of people suggesting aegislash and Charizard checks. My bad. Handling deoxys and its favorite partners is pretty impressiveResisting Shadow Ball spam, while Intimidate prevents it from being 2HKOed by Sacred Sword makes it a good switch in to Aegislash. Resisting Sucker Punch from Bisharp while being able to OHKO back with Superpower means it checks DeoSharp. Being able to manhandle 2 huge threats in the meta is great. Making Luxray Dark/Electric is actually more of being a Dark type with the benefits of a Electric type, rather than being a Electric with the benefits of a Dark type -> being the only Flying resistant Dark type to not be 2HKOed by most unSTABed physical Fighting type attacks is pretty neat. Resistance to 3 very common priority types is just the cherry on the cake. And the main goal is to make something that can switch into Aegislash, Thundurus, Deoxys-S and Talonflame while threatening OHKOs back in return.
Sorry, i know it is not the good time for discussing, by i'll do it. Actually, i agree with you on only 2 points : dark/electric is a nice double type, deoxys is checked. Anything else may make sense in theory, but in the real game, it doesn't. Actually only one hing can explain that, Luxray is too weak to become a good pokemon in OU ( poor movepool support, low stats -bar ATK- and poor 70 BS speed with no priority move). Oh yeah we can believe it can check bisharp, what a pitiful check ! Actually it can't switch in if it has not HP or Def spread, and if you use such spread, it will lack too much speed for being able to do anything else.Resisting Shadow Ball spam, while Intimidate prevents it from being 2HKOed by Sacred Sword makes it a good switch in to Aegislash. At the end of the day, Dark/Electric Luxray is actually a defensively oriented buff rather than an offensively oriented one, and the retype actually focuses more on being a Dark type having the advantages of a Electric type rather than the other way round. I think it has been explained here:

+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Bisharp Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Luxray: 200-237 (66.4 - 78.7%)
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Bisharp Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Luxray: 165-195 (54.8 - 64.7%)
What about aegislash, first of all it is affected by kingshiel and will lose ATK can only 4 or 3HKO O.O.
-2 252+ Atk Luxray Crunch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Aegislash-Shield: 98-116 (30.2 - 35.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO, in the other hand aegislash have fun even at -1.
Sacred Sword vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Luxray: 164-194 (54.4 - 64.4%).
Well after seeing Luxray will not be a star for defensive role, what about offensive ? Actually the miss of speed and the priority move lack is a big issue, and that double will not solve it. Dark/electriic luxray will be more viable with that double type but i don't think an OU.
BTW i want to vote for blissey+scald but i can't bold it with my phone and i have no computer until tomorrow. If a gentle admin can edit my post, that could be nice. Thanks
Edit: sorry for all mistakes, its really a pain for me to correct them by phone
